  • It works with Xiaomi zigbee sensors? Would the hub send alert to mobile when triggered?

    • Yes it does. Can do automations as well

Takes a bit of effort to add the sensors.

Works with the Smartthings Classic app.

      Check this page

      • Works with Xiaomi sensors in the new app also and also via Google Assistant

        • I had trouble adding the Xiaomi sensors via the new app but could add them with the Classic app.

After adding them they work fine with the new app..

hmm gosh more tech to buy. Will this work well with the google home set ups? or will it be a double up? I'm interested in setting up the motion sensor in the garage.. ..I have LIFX all over the house/ TPlink smart plugs/ Arlo set up/ Ring/ Roomba/ Linktap/ Samsung digital door/ etc. seems a bit overkill- time to do some reading!

    • +1

Works well with the Google home setup.

    • Can I ask which Samsung door you got? I'm looking into SHP-DS510

      • Mine is about 5 years old now, SHS1321! Waiting on new home to finish build before I look at any new ones.

  • Home assistant have more potential than this. my opinion

    • So you mean using HA instead of the Samsung hub? I have a Pi on order and plan to tinker with HA. I'm wondering if this motion sensor would be a good addition to my existing setup (Hue, Echos, Harmony etc)

      • i use aeotec USB zwave to integrate all my zwave product. depend on what ecosystem you currently have. HA can integrate with many gateway / hub too. Automation on samsung hub need internet to work, HA automation can work offline. but HA maybe need more tinkering than samsung hub. I'm planning to integrate ikea tradfri gateway with HA now.

        • I'm using Harmony hub, Philips Hue hub + lights + motion, TP Link HS110, Arlec grid, Amazon Echos. I'm hoping to tie it all together with HA.

          • +1

@MeagerDollarBucks: seem all wifi based product. i don't think you need hub at all. you can just add component in HA. HA can talk to philips HUB. Arlec use HA Tuya component

You realise that you integrate this hub into home assistant… ;)

      • Ah I see, I'm not up to date with the smart things ecosystem but will have to read up on it. Cheers.

It requires an ssl connection so a little extra work, easily achievable via duckdns or cloudflare
          https://www.home-assistant.io/integrations/smartthings/
          https://github.com/PhrantiK/hassio-addons (cloudflare and letsencrypt addon)
          https://www.home-assistant.io/addons/duckdns/ (duckdns and letsencrypt)

It works well though, much easier now than it was before (MQTT broker, smart app, MQTT bridge)!

My current ecosystem is Hassio, Smartthings and Xaiomi with Hassio being the main driver of the other 2 hubs.

          Hassio (the brains)
          -Google maps tracking
          -IP Cameras
-Automation rules for everything aggregated in
          -Broadlink rf repeater
          -Broadlink smart power boards
Xaiomi (reports back states to hassio, states changed by hassio)
          -Motion sensors
-Reed switch (door close state) sensors
          -Temp/Humidity
          -Smart power sockets
          -Air purifier
Smartthings (reports back states to hassio, states changed by hassio)
          -Smart lock (kwikset 910)
          -Light switches

My UI is pretty basic, I recently blew it away and started again :(

          • @Xetrok: Whoa, that's impressive. My setup is pretty basic compared to yours. Can you recommend a decent cheap door sensor thats not permanent?

          • @Xetrok: if internet is not working HA will lost communication with Smartthings isn't it?

            • @shortcircuit: Yeah, you could look at something like Hubitat if you want something local only.
Internet hasn't been a big deal, you could still setup the MQTT broker and bridge and use a 4g backup if you were really desperate but I haven't really had any outages (and walking to my light switches or remotes isn't that hard!)

      • yes it's correct. another possible way. and let HA do the automation. But again depend on what ecosystem people currently have. zwave or zigbee or both. if all your light WiFi based, you don't need HUB at all.

    • Yes but learning curve is ten times or more harder. Swapped out my Domoticz and OpenHAB for smartthings. Didn't have time to do loads of debugging and worrying about corrupted SD cards

  • How does smartthings motion sensor work with LIFX ?

    • You can add the LIFX account to Smartthings and then allocate the sensors and bulbs into room.

Create scenes and automations etc etc..

  • +1

Good deal. I use hubitat for doing local automation instead, recommend. https://hubitat.com/

    • I've got a Vera Edge and was looking to upgrade possible. Did you look at the Vera Plus, and how does it compare?

    • Where did u get it from in oz?

    • @morkoz did u buy hubitat locally?

      • @shivaussie Can't get it locally, just ordered the AU version from their site and paid shipping. I've recommended the team add it to Amazon Global Shipping to make it easier, and they're considering that.

@pax I haven't used Vera, but I gather from those that have migrated from it that Hubitat has more capability and flexibility. It's still a maturing product though, as it is only a couple of years old at this point.

  • How many sensors can the hub support?

EDIT: 232 apparently, but the hub counts as 1 so 231. Pretty sure my Xiaomi only supports 25 so may be worth the update

  • Thanks Op. I'm running LIFX and Google through my house and was hoping to set up the sensor in a couple of areas, in particular my garage.

Is it possible to set up an alert if the sensor is triggered during a certain time period? IE Between midnight - 6Am if the sensor in my garage is triggered I get an alert?

    • +1

      Absolutely.
You can choose between Armed(away), armed(stay) and disarmed modes.

For each mode you can add the automation, times etc etc..

      • Thanks mate, I'll get some and give it a gO!

  • Do you still need the Xiaomi gateway to connect to the SmartThings hub or can the Xiaomi sensors connect directly?

      • Thanks for the link.

I'm contemplating if I should try this out. I'm currently running an Intel NUC with hass.

  • Okay, I'm in the Hue ecosystem, including motion sensors. What features can this add for me?

    • If you need integration of hue system with other systems, this will help.

  • I have Google Nest smoke detectors, will SmartThings work with them so the detector can trigger automations like turn on Philips Hue lights or get Broadlink to turn off the air cons?

  • RACV have better deal.

    1 x SmartThings Hub
    2 x SmartThings Multi Sensor (2 parts)
    3 x SmartThings Motion Sensor

    • I bought that with a 30% off for Black Friday!!

    • Keep in mind that comes with SmartThings Wifi, not the Hub V3

      • Whats the exact difference? As per google, this one just have additional wifi capabilities.

        • Not just additional wifi, it is an actual mesh ap I believe.

  • Out of stock. Listing ended.
