  I think those are Desktop (plug into powerpoint) vs Portable in this deal which has a smaller 2.5" drive and can be powered by the USB connection only. Hence the price difference

      You can shuck 2.5" drives too. EXCEPT for damned WD portables like this post.
      
      Their USB ports are integrated into the drive's board; so in the event of a damaged port (i.e. dropped on the cable by a toddler) then you lose the entire drive even though the data is intact.
      
      …also, Officeworks has 3Tb portables for $99, which is a better price per Tb than this listing
