  • Is this new or refurbished? Site doesn't make it clear.

        Thanks

  • Forgive my ignorance, but what is the use of this?

    • The HDHomeRun is a network-attached digital TV tuner. It connects to your antenna or cable line (depending on model) and takes the digital TV signals available there and makes them available to your PC, tablet, smartphone, game consoles, and other devices over your existing home network.

    • If you wanted to watch Tv on your Smart device in the home on WiFi or on a Laptop.
Record Tv Shows to watch later or add to Plex or Kodi.
This will also Make a DLNA service so any network media player can see that and display the image.

But mostly I use it on my Apple Tv for one Remote solution with the Channels app I can pause Tv come back and resume also I have a Dreamscreen LED Strip device around my tv and I use the HDMI output from the Apple Tv to my Dreamscreen to my TV so I can have the LEDs display the light from FTA broadcast as the TV can't output an HDMI image.

      • The problem with Channels (besides costing $39) is that their DVR solution is not supported in Australia, so you can't record.

Also, the native HDHomerun app is not available on the Apple TV.

The HDHomerun works great with the Nvidia Shield though, as it allows you to record directly to local storage attached to the Shield using the native HDHomerun app or Plex, and the Shield can also run Plex Server, so no need for a PC or NAS.

        Edit: Slightly cheaper here?

Have this connected to my router, can either view via HDHOmerun app or via Plex live tv option (Plex pass required).. managed Plex users get to watch Aus tv (hooray!!) from anywhere in the world..
      Or local users via app..

      • Do you still get an EPG through Plex? I heard that Australia was dropped when they changed providers

        • You don’t get a free EPG via Plex, you can get a free guide here
Or you can use icetv they have a discounted rate for Plex users.

  • Hey guys does this have to plug into the router or can it work wireless? My two tv signal ports are located away from where my NBN connection is.

    Cheers,

    • +1

Yes, this has to be plugged into the Router and Antenna.
      like this image
You could try a long antenna cable or a powerline adaptor to reach your NBN connection.

        Thanks for clarifying

  • What's the easiest way to use this with TVs within WiFi range?

    • +1

      Are the TVs smart?
This tuner has to be connected via a network cable to a router and also the antenna point.
From that the TVs that are in WiFi range and also smart via DLNA can see the network tuners and see the TV channels.

      • Would a Chromecast work?

        • +1

Yes a chromecast would work using the VLC app.

    Cheaper here: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/SiliconDust-HD-HomeRun-Connect-Q….

$17 postage at Scorptec for AusPost is more than the service cost. To add to this I just received something from them today that took 9 days to get from them in Melbourne to me here in Sydney. Several other things ordered online arrived in just a few days.

    • I agree $17 is expensive but I rather the saving on the product than the original price.
I’ve purchased from scorptec in the past and didn’t have an issue.
This time of year can add to delivery times.

Thanks…made an offer on Ebay….I don't need it - never watch TV…but as a plex addon for while overseas it might kill time…if they accept!…

  • Off topic here … Is free to air TV still a thing? Honestly i don't know when the last time I watched something on TV was.

    • i guess reality tv shows like masterchef , etc.

    • For some weirdos like my wife and I - we record shows we like to watch on FetchTV then watch them on demand at night.

Mind you we HAD to watch Child Genius this season as our boy is in it - couldn't get that on Netflix lol
