Coleman 1410077 2-in-1 Utility Light (Normally $26) $7 @ Bunnings

1240

Same as the previous deal, but now almost a quarter of the original price!

Comes with 3 OEM Duracell Alkaline batteries, not cheap and nasty ones.

I tried using NiHM batteries and they work fine, albeit with a slightly reduced output.

Note: This is a promotional line, so you won't find it amongst the other torches - it will be off-located somewhere else. You will need to ask a team member to look up where it is.

Description

  • Area light and flashlight in one
  • Damage-resistant magnetic system attaches to tents, toolbox lids, car hoods and more
  • Rugged exterior provides a comfortable grip and increased impact resistance
  • BatteryLock™ system stops battery drain to preserve battery life and reduce corrosion to protect your device
  • Allows batteries to be stored in your device for years (up to their inherent shelf life)

Always have a light ready with the versatile Coleman® 2-in-1 Utility Light. It combines the ease of a hands-free area light with the convenience of a handheld flashlight. The magnetic system easily attaches to any steel item, such as your toolbox or underneath the hood of your car. For situations where the magnet won't work, the mini bail handle makes it easy to hang. When you're on the go, simply switch to flashlight mode and you can take bright light with you anywhere. Its rugged exterior protects against impacts from falls of up to two meters. That's twice the impact resistance of most other lights. In addition to its exterior protection, the interior of your light is also protected by the BatteryLock™ system, which stops battery drain. On a normal light, there is typically some residual drain as long as the battery is connected in the circuit, even when the light is off. By simply sliding the top switch, you can completely disengage your batteries, so they can be stored in your light for years (up to their inherent shelf life). You’ll also reduce the toxic corrosion that can damage your light. No matter how many ways you use it, you'll know you can trust this led ight in any situation for years to come.

  • Does anyone know what colour temperature this is? Thinking about using for lighting in film work.

    • +10

Invest in some good lights, you'll want high CRI for good colour reproduction

Thank you for the link Impoze!

  • Has it got a decent switch?
I've got a few should be good lights that aren't for the want of a decent switch.

Bought this last weekend. Can attest to being a bright light for running on 3 (included) AAs

Low bar, high bar and torch modes cycle with soft rubber side switch.

Has a magnet and ring on the back makes it a great camping and or car light.

    7/7 would buy more

    • +1

Any idea how long it'll last? a bit put off that it's not rechargeable, but I'm open to them if there's decent run time.

        From the Coleman Website

        • 3 modes: high, low, flashlight
        • Lumens: 200 (high), 20 (low), 100 (flashlight)
        • Runtime: 12 hours (high), 100 hours (low), 20 hours (flashlight)

        • +2

Runtime seems optimistic - 200lumens for 12 hours from 3 AA. Still, for $7…

          • +3

@seb: Agree. I am guessing more like 2 to 3 hours at High.

      • Sorry wouldn't be able to tell you as I've only used it for maybe 10mins runtime or so

Other's breakdown theoretically indicates poorly though.

Still a great backup beater light for 7 bucks

a bit put off that it's not rechargeable

        angry Eneloop noises

        • Add a smart charger and it makes it much better than inbuilt dumb chargers. Plus, spares are easy for when away from a power point.

A tip, Ikea rechargeables are Eneloop Pros.

      • +1

AA lights can be rechargeable if you want it to be. IMO much more versatile than the built-in rechargeable!?

    • +1

200 lumens from 3xAA means little runtime.

Meh. Original price was a joke.

  • +3

Damage-resistant magnetic system attaches to tents…

Unfortunately, my tent is not made of metal.

    • +4

Go look at the photos to understand how it works

    • +2

That's why the attachment system clips off thus allowing attachment to the material of your tent.

          • @petry: and which if any are cheaper or equivelant to this ? any links?

Won't be buying Coleman stuff again after the debacle with their lead-acid rechargeable batteries, and poor durability of camping lights that I purchased at Anaconda a few years back. The lantern lasted about 3 camping trips before switch started going, and the batteries stoppped charging. Entire thing made of cheap plastic.

    • -1

But 7 dollars is pretty worth for the cheap plastic. XD

      • yes true, I paid a lot more than that for the camping lamp.

    • +1

Agree, Coleman torches and lanterns are not worth wasting your time on even for $7.

  • +1

I picked up this one from BCF today - https://www.bcf.com.au/p/wanderer-multi-function-usb-lantern…
Rechargeable and has USB port. Comes to $10.99 if you got the BCF voucher via mail - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/504755

  • Whatchu talkin bout, Willis?

  • +1

I might modify it to use 2 x 18650 in parallel.

  • +1

I bought 3. $7 is all its worth to be honest, feels pretty cheap and light output not amazing. Good to keep in the car though and will come in handy.

  • Got one today when I dropped by Bunnings to get some tools. Saw this deals days ago but wasn't motivated to get it until now. I have to say $7 is ok for a torch like this. The LEDs inside is around 6000k (cool white) from visual and doesn't have much blue or purple tinge. I've got a few of those "Chinese 18650" torches and most of them have a blue/purple tinge which I don't like. As the name suggest these these are utility lights, so these are great for close proximity usage (camping, working in tight spots). The battery lock feature is handy for those that keep these in a draw and use them once in a while. As many have said, worth $7. Any more is a rip.

  • I just bought one at Innaloo Bunnings and there were a few left. They were located in the electrical section with the rest of the lighting items.

Honestly I feel $7 should be retail price, it not worth more than that once you take it home and use it. It's not super bright or anything special. I was actually going to give it a miss but bought mine for $3 as it was missing 2 of the 3 supplied batteries.

I guess this one will go in the car glove box for emergency use.

    • Great buy at $3. I ended up buying two from Bayswater Bunnings. (Located on a clipstrip in Aisle 33 - Gardening.)

I gave one to my neighbour. Turns out it's a bit brighter than a similar utility light (an Arlec, I think) that he already had.

    • The Bunnings one uses AA batteries vs AAA for the Aldi ones, so will last ~3 times longer.

The Coleman is also a torch. Not sure if it's the same for Aldi's.

  • +1

Bunnings Innaloo has 2 left in stock

  • I grabbed one yesterday. Handy area light for power outage of in car for emergency.

I will get another one if Im there again good to attach by magnet to inside boot lid.

  • just tested it out, a really good light for the price.

    useful in perth tonight.
