      Thanks Mate!

  • I got this from jbhifi a month ago for $1250 without any trouble. Should be able to get this price in store I recon.

  • I have a variant of this TV. Love it!

  • This or Hisense R8?

    • +2

I'd consider the Hisense, but only because our X8000D has given us so many issues with lag and not turning on at times

      • Did the Android Update fix the lag issues?

        • No improvement, if anything exacerbated the issue :/

          • @buckster: I've got same model and latest update v6.6535 fixed the TV not turning on at all.

Slow CPU and GPU can't be fixed cos it's a 2016 Mediatek chip and it won't be updated to Pie.

According to Rtings.com, the older versions of the 8000 series like our D seem to better quality than the newer F/G line, hence why I'm holding onto mine.

Since its end of the line in terms of updates will probably just buy a Shield.

Update to latest OS version and disable everything (games, stream services, social site plugins and sony services) you don't need in settings -> apps. The system is much smoother after you disable all the bloatware.

    • Depends on your content.
The Sony's upscale significantly better. It's like all the content is 4k.

Even with Netflix\Disney and Amazon, a lot of their content is still FULL HD.

i was at Myer yesterday looking at the Hisense R7 and comparing it with the Sony X80G one of the difference I noted was that the hisense had 200hz motion while the Sony had 100hz. In general I liked the picture on the hisense better, but software wise, I know Sony is an Android TV and the hisense is not.

        Hope this helps.

        • Agree, a Hisense displaying true 4K content is hard to beat, but this model is all 200Hz and gets great reviews for motion.
Often difficult to judge instore, unless you bring your own content or view Netflix. Otherwise it comes down to who prepared the "demo" material the best.

Android is great to have on the TV, apps like Netflix just work and you have the Disney App, although the Sony's struggle with Plex and audio lag (fix is to select Cinema mode).
Shame they don't have the Apple+ App yet.

        • Hisense RG model has the new Android TV released 2019

    • +1

The Hisense R8 is only 8Bit (with FRC) so that is an immediate no go in my books.

      • Sorry what does this mean (FRC?) ? and is the Sony 8000G a 10bit panel?

From what I've heard, not many TV's are 10bit at all.

        • Frame Rate Control Technology is something companies use to practically enhance the colour depth by 2 extra bits.

        • FRC is a cheaper software attempt to gain 10bit results forma cheaper 8bit panel. While an improvement over standard 8Bit, it falls short of native 10Bit by a good amount.
Yes the Sony is a 10Bit panel, most decent 4K HDR panels are these days. To get proper HDR with wide colour gamut, it really needs to be 10bit. Hisense R7 was 10Bit, no idea why they chose to go backwards for the R level.

I wouldn't put my money into anything that isn't 10bit.

  • Waiting for Amazon to match….

Decent deal! Black Friday had this and the 65X85G ($1,273) at $100-150 less than this listed price for comparison

  • Get a TCL 65P8M.. save $500 and buy something else :)

    • how good is it ?

      • I've been pretty happy with my 75" P8M which I got for $920 through previous deals

      • 4K, like the Hisense it's bloody good. But the upscaling is nowhere near as good as the Sony.
Not sure if all of them are, but the recent TCL's I viewed were Androids!!

      • +1

Complete poo compared to this I bet. I had 2 P8's. Both died. On sony x8500g (yes, it's not this model) now and the difference is huge.

      • Can't complain. Android TV works fine, youtube, netflix etc. PS4 Pro looks great with a few picture tweaks. Enjoying my 65inch TCL. I came from a previous Hisense models and Sony Bravias. Too much lag with software

As for voting…. I trust the OzB community!!!

I did up vote you, my comments were more for encouragement.

  • No comparison. Sony any day of the week

  • Buy this or wait for boxing day sales?

  • ‘Doesn’t post to Australia’ . . The Bing Lee effect??

I picked up the KD65X9500G from Harvey Norman on the weekend for $2050.

    • +1

      How did you manage that?

      • +1

Was told that Sony have allocated Boxing Day funding so they can do Boxing Day prices already. This is Boxing Day price.

        • That's awesome. You just asked for their best price? I'm hoping that model returns to Sony eBay store in "boxed damaged" or seconds

          • +2

@hen dawg: Not even that. I was in there a month ago and as I wasn't in a hurry to buy it was told to come back beginning of December leave my details and I'd get a phone call before store opens on boxing Day to save having to come in on the day when it's so busy. I went in to give my details and was told they can do the price right away.

            • @sb123: Geez, keen to sell. Cheers for that

    • +1

I got the 55” x9500G for $1299 from Sony “boxed damaged” sale. Not a single mark on the box.

  • Does Myer Ebay have a click-and-collect option?

  • I see there is a refurbished KD65X8000G on Ebay for $960 with free delivery. Interesting choices

  • -2

8500G for same price please! maybe <$1,000 on boxing day :o

  • Take a vote, friend. No negs today

  • +2

I got this TV with the GoodGuys/Ebay 20% off deal about a month ago.

I'm very happy with it and yes I will always lust over the OLED's but they are 3 times the price! The X95G is also lustworthy but that is twice the price. I think this TV is pretty good all considered.

    • X95 is also thicker and heavier, might matter if mounting on a wall, so there's that…

  • How are these compared to series 8 samsungs

  • It doesn't deliver to Tasmania. I didn't downvote though, as that's pretty standard and not your fault.

  • This or C9 OLED?

    • +1

65" C9 is $2000 ish more, so not a fair comparison. The B9 would be closer, bit still double the price of this, so ……………… yeah.
