Why not a $400 HDMI cable.

Jeez, $6,999 for a 7m HDMI cable. As experts, how do you justify this to people?

        • -1

It's made of solid silver. Raw manufacturing cost would be $100-500 alone, $7000 is hardly a rip off, when you pay $10 for a HDMI cable that costs $0.30 to manufacture. "the richest sound and most vivid imaging available" is not a lie.

To be honest though, if someone wants to pay me $7000 I will renact an entire movie off by heart for them. Just saying!

            @pinchies:

"the richest sound and most vivid imaging available" is not a lie.

It kind of is though. HDMI is a digital signal. It's all ones and zeros, and because it's digital there's either signal or there isn't. A cable cannot make it "richer sounding" or more "vivid imaging" no matter what they make it out of.

            • +4

@[Deactivated]: That may not be entirely correct. How you perceive sound and images depends on how your brain is wired. If say you spend 5% of your annual income on a cable made of silver, everything passing through that cable will, by necessity, be so much more vivid in your mind's eye. It may look the same to everyone else, but you will see things no one else will ever be able to perceive.

@[Deactivated]: Oh, it's sneaky - but they said most not more. They would be in big trouble if they said more.

            • +4

              @[Deactivated]: You're correct.

I used to work in a premium hifi family owned shop.

We sold Chord cables for a few hundred.

              Zero difference in video quality.

However, up to 10m better transmission range, over large thater room runs behind the walls.

They had their place, just image quality wasn't it.

@MasterScythe: Thank goodness someone else understands quality changes run distance.

It can actually create artifacts. I had hdmi cables cause green artifacts on dell u2410s (I owned 3 of these monitors), but my setup was a bit unusual as it ran through a hdmi recording device so the total run was longer than normally intended for those cables.

I was surprised to get a poor picture rather than no picture but it's real. Google confirmed I wasn't the only one. Buying better cables still fixed it.

                • @justtoreply: Correct- signal integrity over longer distances is affected by the construction of the cable.

In terms of artifacts and so on, most consumer equipment would use HDCP encryption where missing or introduced bits would result in a decryption failure, and therefore no signal at all. As you say, it sounds like yours was a bit of a non-standard use case.

                • @justtoreply: A garbage cable of any run length can degrade the signal. But you can get a decent cable for <$20.

        • +1

          Oh you think that's expensive?
Try $33,642 for a 3 metre speaker cable

          • +1

@koalafied: I wouldn't get that if I were you, way overpriced.

The Eclipse 8 which superseeds it is far more economical and has newer features - the updated OCC-7N provides an extra 0.0000009% purity (that's 7 Nines which as you know is one less than 64 and 6 less than 69).

@thushan: Amazon Basics optical cable does the job for me :P

Don't forget donations above $2 to Deductible Gift Recipients are tax deductible.

    • +6

Tax deductable means reducing your taxable income, it is not a tax offset. Some people believe donating $2 will reduce the tax they have to pay by $2.

    • Unless you receive something in return.

      • However, ATO is unlikely to know the identify of the taxpayer who avails of this deal.

  • How many do you have?

    • -4

      quite a few

      • +11

        Your answer is not helpful.

I had 'quite a few' beers last night and I've got 'quite a few' Upper Deck basketball trading cards are not identical.

How about you give us a number:

        a) under 10
        b) under 100
        c) under 1000

        Thanks.

  • +1

    Any delivery fees?

    Edit: this in-store only..?

  • +8

Why is op trolling in the comments?

    Doesn't s/he realise he has a brand/company to represent?

Is this a new business? Or a garage business? Is this your first time running a business, Op?

    • My thoughts exactly! What's with the attitude… At least I know now where not to shop
Edit: just been through past posts - how are they still allowed to be here 😰

    • +1

It was a garage business since then we have upgraded to a shed.

When the OP's manager finds out about the comments made by the OP in this thread, the Centrelink line will get 1 person longer.

    • Try to enjoy the freebie or just walk away from the thread. Let's not do this in a digitalcinema thread again

Mods should be able to close commenting on a thread. And do it here.

    • +1

      That wouldn't be good.
Since OP seems like a fun person, I donated $140 (7 "OzBargainers that seem to share the sentiment that OP is some kind of jerk" x $2 x 10 "coz $14 isn't much"). And I'm not even going to claim the freebie, but I might email the store and thank them and OP for posting this deal.
