  • Is Sydey to Tokyo a direct flight?

  • Can you officially earn velocity points on status on ANA flights yet?

    • I do not think so.
When I fly ANA with VA domestic transfer, VA flight did not earn to ANA.

    • Not today but should be in place when the Brisbane-Tokyo flights begin in March 2020. Note that earning status may not be part of the partnership.

      • Points only would be a bust. While great for Brisbane, nobody is gonna want to change over 2 stops from other major cities without substantial gains in ff

  • Cheaper in other Virgin Deal
    $642 Brisbane - Hanada rtn

  • Flying into Haneda is great but not if you have to connect within Australia. Just flew direct Melbourne to Narita with JAL and I reckon its the best flight I've ever been on in my life (yes, better than that time I flew Qantas business from HK to Adelaide).

Got on the Keisei Skyliner and was at Ueno station in 45 minutes.

    • I agreed. Paid only $30 more for my flights with JAL and it's direct. It'd have to be a substantial saving for me to take a stopover

    • 45 minutes is a long time after an international flight!

Personally I hate the trip from Narita to Tokyo, but I've never been to Haneda which I may just do now due to this new route :)

      • Haneda doesn't have a shinkansen between it and the city proper so you're stuck on the Tokyo Monorail or ordinary metro lines, probably takes about the same time to get to Ueno than the Skyliner from Narita…

  • What's the snow for skiing / boarding in late April like? No chance?

    • No chance

      • Ha thanks

      • Are you talking from experience? Because the more i research it the more I think it looks like it's a good chance.

    • If you go to Hokkaido you can still do till mid May.

      • I've done Niseko before I was hoping to do Hakuba this time. It had more snow that Niseko when I went last time. Do you have much experience with Japat this time of year then?

        • +1

I went to the top of Hokkaido around Shiretoko in June this year. It wasn’t even yet into summer there but was still cold. Snowed a tiny bit on mountain caps. May is when it starts to change though.

          • @Cyrup: Thanks appreciate the advice

          • @Cyrup: Love the nature around Shiretoko! Spent a week in the National Park in April/May.

Still have wild bears there. Waterfalls into the sea are spectacular from the sea. Walked to a natural Rotenburo (hot spring) in the mountains with snow on the ground & deers walking past.

But Shiretoko is only about 1/2 way up. Went to the islands to the North of Hokkaidao for a short while. Local delicacy was cooked seal flipper!

  • Annoyingly, Virgin's website offers a Singapore Airlines flight and connection if you try and depart from Sydney, rather than offering the connection via Brisbane.
