50000 Telstra Plus Rewards Points for Direct Debit

Was just checking my services in the Telstra app and there is a banner advertising 50000 plus points for signing up to direct debit, that’s a bit more than what it costs for a redemption on a pair of Samsung Galaxy Buds so seems generous, previous deal as 4K of points.

  • My offer popped up this morning, after cancelling dd 3 days ago. It could be that a new bill came out yesterday and that triggered something in the dd system.

      Just a follow up; I spoke with Telstra live chat who told me that the balance of the 50,000 points will be credited within 7 business days from sign up - so apparently 46,000 points should be credited this week…

      She could not answer why did they bother giving me 4,000 points and not just wait and add the full 50,000…? Naturally, she could not answer this question which makes me very skeptical i'll see the full 50,000 points….

    Just got told points will be applied 7 days after direct debit actually is used as payment. I've already paid this month's bill before this offer came out so I'm waiting until next month before I see points

    Did they sneakily edit the CrowdSupport post which previously didn't mention that you aren't eligible if you cancel and sign up again to DD, because that's what it says now:

  • still no bonus point banner come up no matter I use IOS or Samsung. I have un-installed & re-installed Telstra 24x7 app few times since promotion starts. no luck for me. I am hesitating whether I should just jump to set up DD & see how it goes as I never setup DD before. my next payment is due on 19 Dec.

    It would be funny if this promotion resulted in Telstra having less DD customers instead of more :)

      • Did the same, got the banner, signed back up. Gonna be interesting now with the new T&C's on the CrowdSupport website directly going against a banner that's popping up on our accounts. The online chat staff gonna have some fun in the next month/6 weeks as everyone's first DD comes out and the following weeks

      I've done the cancel and recreate - as the offer appears on my mobile app, but see the T&C have changed… so will wait a few days to see if I get the points, if not, I'll cancel my DD and wait for a new promotion.

  • Also cancelled my DD last Friday and today I have the banner for 50000 bonus points.

    • T&Cs state:

      “Accounts with a pre-existing Direct Debit arrangement as at the start of the promotion are not eligible for this offer – i.e. customers will not become eligible for the promotion merely by removing Direct Debit and re-registering during the promotion period.”

    I signed up a few days ago when the Crowd Support info indicated it wasn’t targeted. Now Live Chat has indicated my account isn’t eligible despite never having had DD in the past. I note they have updated their T&C yet again 😒. Way to piss your customers off. Needless to say I cancelled immediately.

    If you choose to cancel your direct debit arrangement within 3 Months,

    So 3 months instead of 6

    • They also added that cancelling DD and signing up again is ineligible in bold

      • Great! So I signed up for DD based on their dodgy info, then cancelled when they updated it. So now I’ll never be eligible???

          Seems like it for this current promo which was extended. Telstra doing bait and switch with their T&C's. You'll be eligible again if they run this promo again.

    I deleted the existing direct debit - later went to online chat and after a while was told I was eligible for the 50000 - have the transcript so see what happens. Asked me if there was anything else - said I'd appreciate more discount so he took another $10 of my mobile - all in all a good result

    The better strategy would have been to just award 50,000 points for all Telstra Plus members who have direct debit activated by the end of the promotional date regardless if it had been previously activated.

    If this was done, imagine the good positive PR that Telstra could have gained and their main objective is to get people to remain on Direct Debit.
    Existing customers aren't even asking for more points or special bonuses and considering that Telstra Plus was a new rewards system it should apply retrospective to existing customers who have already Direct Debit.

  • fwiw i had an active direct debit for my bigpond internet at the time this promo was released. i immediately cancelled the direct debit and paid my bill a couple of days ago via paypal. the telstra 247 app on my iphone was consistently showing the xbox banner. i don't know if it is a coincidence or not, but my bill was due today and this morning the banner changed to the 50,000 points banner. i took a screenshot of the app/banner and signed up to direct debit in the app. will wait and see what happens when i pay my next bill.

    Is anyone else finding that points aren’t getting added for anything? I’ve paid 2 bills and neither have had their points added yet. Reported it to Telstra and still nothing. Been more than the “7 Business Days”

    It's BS.

    • I think I did will try and find them, I spoke to them and they said I was going to get the 50,000 points got a ref number and was even confirmed by a higher ranking employee as well.
      Had DD already set up, cancelled and set up DD again after seeing the banner.

  • I noticed this little part last night

    The points will be bestowed to your Telstra Plus membership when;

    You've successfully registered for direct debit for your eligible account, AND
    Your next bill is issued after direct debit is registered (this is determined by your bill cycle/bill period)

    Does this mean we not only have to wait for the first direct debit to come out but to also wait for the next bill after that to be issued whilst direct debit is still enabled on your account?
    So two billing cycles to complete??

    Or perhaps I am misreading that. As they've made so many changes to the T&C's since this offer was released due to their marketing department being terribly inept.

    • this is the reason i never have had DD on before. they can never get their stuff together and make it incredibly hard when things go wrong. saying that their nbn and mobile is fast and i still have a ex staff discount.

    Just to report I cancelled my DD and re-set it up today and it still worked with the 50k points! Thanks OP!

  • Never got the banner in my app on iPhone or iPad despite never setting up DD, so thought screw it I will just sign up as today was last day of promo then harass live chat if I didn’t get points as I have a screenshot of old t&c. Now I see they have sneakily extended the offer to 31/01. Shouldn’t of signed up and hoped I got the offer before offer ends.

  • I filed a complaint and was offered the following 'resolution'; 'Acknowledging that your recent experience with Telstra has been less than satisfactory and we regret the time and effort exerted whilst you have pursued an outcome to your complaint. Telstra recognises this is important to you and we hope this communication conveys the importance for Telstra to get this right for our customers when possible'.

  • Finally removed Direct Debit waited a few days and got the banner today. Added DD back now.

      Terms and conditions explicitly state those who had DD set up before aren't eligible. I did the same thing, got the banner today, but probably won't receive anything

    • i believe you have to be on direct debit for at least 3 months though otherwise they may reverse the points. so if you get your points hurry up and use it !

  • Just spoke to a rep this afternoon. I received a bill a while ago, bill was due 2 days ago, I setup DD a couple of days before that, but only for $100, not for enough to cover the whole bill.
    I mentioned all this to the rep and asked when I can expect my points. At first he said I needed to pay the full amount of the bill with DD and the points would be credited within 7 business days. Then, when I said the T&C made no mention of the bill needing to be paid in full, he said "Yes that is correct. Any amount paid via direct debit will be honored." He then confirmed they had received my payment and my points are "on the way".

    I was expecting to have to argue about changing T&C but it wasn't necessary. I tried to get the points credited immediately, but that was "beyond our control".
    If the points come through, I'll just reduce the DD amount to even less and keep paying the bill when I feel like it, like I do now, to avoid the 3/6 month requirement issue.

  • Hmmm, I have 2x starter kits to roll my wife and I mobile over to Belong. However I’ve registered for this to take what I can before leaving Telstra. Has anyone used the ‘make a payment’ button to pay the bill even with direct debit active and still received the 50,000?
    My direct debit is due 30th Dec and to get the Belong $50 bonus ends 31st … :-/

    Note if you pay your bill via another method other than direct debit prior to your direct debit payment date, you will forfeit the Telstra Plus bonus points and they will not be bestowed.

    It won't work according to the terms and conditions.

    Must be invited by Telstra in order to participate in the offer
    Must have an active Telstra Plus membership (Telstra Plus Terms & Conditions apply)

      Fyi, I signed up for DD on 4th Dec - and had a DD come out on the 12th

    Called them about unrelated issue (a previous Telstra Plus order), and after being put on hold for more than half an hour only to be told to ask on Online Chat (where I then got told to go to a physical store), I've finally given up on these guys. Every time I call I get told 3 different things from 3 different people. So tempted to move to another provider but after years and years of being a loyal customer wonder if I should stick around a few more weeks to see if they honour this 50k points deal…

  • After receiving the xbox banner constantly with no sign of the 50k bonus for DD, today I got a notification directly from the telstra 24/7 app offering the deal, and when I opened it it took me straight to the direct debit set up page.
    Screenshotted the notification offer and the sign up page T&C.
    There was still no sign of the offer anywhere in the app for me though.

        I thought I'd be missing out as I always pay the bill as soon as they send it which is usually a couple of weeks before it's even due, but looks like they finally found me.

  • Was tergetted, set up DD, billed on 5 Dec, still no points.

    • T&C's say credited within 14 days if I recall correctly so hopefully you should get them by the end of the week or early next week

      That being said this is telstra so who knows

  • So the banner popped up for me, (3 days after cancelling direct debit) I have two chats with 2 different customer reps both stating I would receive 50,000 points 7 days after the direct debit.

    • 9 days after, currently talking to online chat and the chat agent (with the same name as one of the two) now absolutely stone walling me telling me because I already had Direct Debit I am not eligible.

    Not getting anywhere with the fact I was told otherwise, have the chats as proof, or the fact the banner popped up…not surprising though!

    • Same here, the banner is still there. I used online chat yesterday, lady said within 1-2 billing cycles points will hit my account…..

    I just received a random email this morning from Telstra Plus that says "We're currently reviewing your inquiry relating to points adjustment. We will be in touch shortly. Thanks from the Telstra Plus Team".
