Not much in the way of spare parts coming up when I searched. A bit of a worry with any RC car.

  • Hobby grade? Read the negative reviews on Amazon US before buying.

  • I'd give this a miss. for the price, you can get proper HSP bodies with interchangeable parts for aluminium or plastic down the track.
One look under the shell and it looks like a nightmare if something broke.

    • Any suggestions on a good hobby car? I am looking to buy one with a actual motor not battery drive .

      • So much more difficult to maintain…

For racing, there's a whole bunch of serious makes. Just have a look at Tower Hobbies and Amain Hobbies and you'll see brands like Losi, Associated, Kyosho, Mugen, HPI etc.

I have raced at my local club, and it's a blast. I never got into nitro powered cars though. Those guys running them seemed to be forever fixing and tinkering, which might be part of the fun if that's what you're into.

For lower level, you can look at Traxxas - they offer some nitro models I think. Go much lower down in $$$ and I suspect there's not much demand for nitro/petrol powered cars. You might want to look at 1/5 if you prefer petrol, have the $$$, and space to drive one! AUD600 gets you one of these, which is actually pretty good: https://www.banggood.com/Rovan-for-Baja-15-2_4G-RWD-Rc-Car-8… …1/5 are pretty big models.

HobbyKing is a useful supplier of RC stuff too, though I don't see them carrying any combustion powered cars atm.

Secondhand is probably a good option too. You can spend a fortune on tools and accessories you need to run nitro/petrol cars, and if you can find somebody who's getting out of the hobby it will be cheaper.

Edit: I see this on Banggood too: https://www.banggood.com/HSP-94177-110-2_4G-4WD-18cxp-Engine… …not off-road though.

        • Thanks a lot for your detailed reply. I am interested in the second car you mentioned as it's what I am comfortable spending atm. I know almost nothing about nitro cars but have always been interested to own one and maybe tinker with it a bit but I am a bit confused on how much work I have to do to maintain it. I have some basic understanding of engine from tinkering with my 2 stroke motorbike a few years ago but will not be able to do complex fixes. Also thanks for the advice on used cars I will have a look in Gumtree and see if there is anything there .
