  • These will last atleast a few months I presume before activation?

    • +2

I bought one and it arrived today. The expiry on the back is Sept 2021.

  • +5

Indeed not the cheapest ever but still a good price nonetheless: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/472394

  • Ya almost 10% expensive than the $200 deal, but still happy with 219.

    • +1

      Perhaps buying 2 x Telstra Prepaid 6 Month SIM from Woolworths for 2 x $100 = $200.

      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/499701

      • I think you would also need to factor in the cost involved in getting an additional sim to port out and port back into Telstra assuming you want to retain your existing #. Maybe $5?If not, then yes that is a better deal.
With the price match it is ~208.

        • I thought it was just about telling Telstra to switch the mobile number to the new sim.

Could someone else please let us know whether or not port out and port back in are required?

          • @jeffreychow: I spoke with Telstra via the website chat this afternoon and the rep advised that the $300 starter kit is only available to new numbers or port in numbers from other companies. I asked if i ported out and then ported back in whether that would work and the rep said yes. Apparently when activating the SIM, there is an option to select port in number from other provider or something to that effect.

          • @jeffreychow: I'm on the phone now. These guys are clowns.
Mr Philippines is telling me that if I want to transfer my (expired) postpaid number to prepaid I have to do a new recharge and can't use my $300 prepaid SIM I just bought.
When I explained that that is ridiculous he said I should try and sell the SIM to get my money back.
Then I get serious and tell him that I want the $300 prepaid deal with my number on it, he said that's complicated and it's 50:50 if it will work. So now I'm demanding to speak to a supervisor and am on hold…
Where do they find these monkeys?

            • @1st-Amendment: Follow up: Mr Philippines wouldn't pass me onto to a supervisor and just put me on hold for 15 minutes then hung up on me.
Now I'm trying Telstra chat who said they can do it, it will just take a while.
              Still in progress…

              • @1st-Amendment: So the end result is that I got it done. It was a long and hard journey but I got there. In hindsight probably not worth the effort, I think Telstra deliberately make it hard because why would they want customers who are currently paying $50/month to get a better deal for $18/month?

                Summary:
A 45 minute call got me nowhere, those people are clowns.
I probably spent another 30-40 minutes on webchat with someone who said they could do it.
Last night they cut my postpaid SIM over to prepaid with no credit so I had no phone/data for most of today (could receive calls but not make them). Around about 3pm my phone lost all coverage then it came back fully operational on the Prepaid plan (I think). So the whole process took about 18 hours.

Telstra 24x7 is saying that details are unavailable for my number and #101# says nothing. So I have no way to check my current balance currently.

                What a cluster (profanity)…

additional to maverick1 comments, benefits with pack

12 months pack comes with 150 GB , where as 6 months pack 60GB.

    • Good find, where would we be without OW and Bunnings 😁

    • Just curious if this includes Unlimited standard international calls to certain countries and $100 Extra Credit as mentioned in Telstra website. OW only mentions unlimited standard Australia numbers.
      Many thanks in advance 😊

      • +3

        Yep. Same starter kit.

    • +3

      Many thanks!
Just got off the phone with OW and the person on call have just done a price beat. (They cross check to see which store still have stock;for me to collect)
      Office price beat becomes: $208.05

    • +2

Thanks for this. Price matched over the phone. They’ll ask for a product number/barcode, so make sure you have it ready :)

  • +3

Might be time to come off postpaid. 30Gb for $39 has been sweet but I use <10Gb so this looks pretty good.

    • Did you miss the monthly 100GB for $28 deal with circle. Life?

  • Will $35 cashback work with this?

    • +1

That's for a plan (ie postpaid), not a (prepaid) SIM.

  • +1

Can you buy these and not activate them until your current phone plane expires?

    • +3

Yes, you can. Activate before the expiry date on the pack.

      • When is that? Need new sim end of January!

        • +2

That depends on the stock that is sent…usually they have long expiry. I would say atleast 6 months..I ordered one back when it was $200 and that came with 18m expiry.
Have ordered one today so can let you know once it is delivered, but by then you have a risk of it going OOS..

        • +2

The expiry date ion the pack I got is 24 Apr 2021

  • Thanks op, not gonna miss out again.

    • +2

Exactly this. Price matched with Officeworks over the phone for $208 with free delivery :)

  • Is the 5G network available on prepaid?

    • +1

      Nope.

    • +1

The 5G network is extremely tiny and the roll-out plan is scheduled to take many years. I wouldn't spend any extra for this for at another 12 months.

    • +1

      Nope

  • Downsides vs their postpaid plans?

  • +1

Got a price match on officeworks! Thanks guys! Pitt St, they don't really check the telstra website either!

  • +4

Dont you guys find the internet speed on Telstra network is getting pretty crappy now? Every now and then it gets very slow and completely unusable every single time in melbourne cbd tunnel or on city loop stations. But I know Optus is fine as I have got those starter kits leftover so I have been switching between networks. People with different network are welcomed to verify what I said.

Because of the frustration, I am planning to switch to optus after I finish the boost 80gb plan. Telstra is just no longer the best network.

    • +2

Yes. I got really excited with the deals here and switched my wife over to Boost (Telstra network). She hated it and had a similar experience to what you describe above. Call drops and no 4G in the Richmond area and city loop.
Thankfully it was only a 30 day stater sim and not the 12 month plan. Got her switched back to Vodafone and she is happy now.

    • +2

Yep.. ported in to Telstra and found I had virtually no signal at my workplace (middle of CBD). Ended up having to cancel the plan and go back to an Optus reseller.

    • +1

I actually made a post about this in ozbargain forum

    • Exactly! Telstra network has been exaggerated, it’s not that good. I am using Telstra and Vodafone at the same time, and Telstra had many call drops, Vodafone didn’t.

      • Vodafone was horrible for me. I use Optus currently and it’s much better.

    • we need to leave the feedback maybe in my forum topic so that later on I can prove to people when those boost 1yr prepaid deals comes up. People seriously need to be warned. Telstra is Failstra nowadays. it will be much appreciated if you guys can leave your comment there.

  • Can I use my current number?

    • +2

      RTFM

Transfer your number from another provider or get a new number

      • +1

my postpaid plan is about end tomorrow. is it possible to move to prepaid with the same number.

        • +1

Yeah you can, asked here before.

        • I had an absolute nightmare doing this with my wifes plan last time. This time ima just port out and back in using a $2 sim.

      • The packet says 'you can keep your number or get a new number'. Nothing about only being able to transfer an existing number.

  • dam, just bought the boost card 2 days ago.

  • Can you use this deal
    On existing Telstra numbers?

  • Standard numbers to selected countries….. is that mean landline or mobile numbers included?

  • Awesome deal, thanks that I waited for a day. I got OW to price match. At $8 more this is much better for a year when compared to the 6 month plan.

  • That $19 a month plan looks really good.
20gb, 35 days between recharge + 15 gb extra for the first 3 months

    • +2

It's only $19 to buy the sim and use it for 35 days, the next time you recharge it's $40.

  • So do you get 150GB from the 1st month or do you get approx 12GB a month for 12 months?

    • +2

You have 150GB to use in 12 months which averages out at 12GB a month.
It’s up to you to manage the 150GB in 12 months.

  • how do i get this in e-SIM form?

    • You can’t get eSIM with prepaid :(

      • what are the chances of that ever changing?

        • +1

          I’ll ask around

          • +2

@flud: Edit: seems like the rules have changed and you should be able to get one in store or via the phone

            • +1

@flud: Thanks for taking the time. :)

              • @Jay-rad: Hmm have a few ppl telling me today it is not available, but it should be doable on the system.

                • @flud: Please share the best way if there is one. So far I've called and used chat, both said no. Next, I'll go to a T-store in person to try

Googling, whirlpool users had success by just saying "i need a sim swap to e-sim". Apparently Telstra won't do it unless you're using a "supported device" (iPhone X/iPad/etc). So I'll either have to lie, get the e-SIM and scan on my pixel later, or just luck out and hope they give me an e-SIM

Would appreciate any input. Thanks for your time

                  • +1

@Jay-rad: Hey sorry that you’ve had no luck so far :( i actually went on chat who said it’s available - so I’m not sure why yours said no. Anyways the best option would be to visit a store, AFAIK the system used for sim swaps doesn’t care if it’s a postpaid or a prepaid.

                  • @Jay-rad: Hey were you able to get one?

                    • +1

@flud: Had to work today and store closes before I finish. I'll swing by tomorrow and update you/thread :)

I'm going to try and switch 2 numbers from Physical to eSIM, 1 pre-paid (this SIM Kit deal) and 1 m2m plan.

                      • @Jay-rad: Cool! Hope to hear some good news from you :) btw you’ll definitely be able to switch to esim for the m2m plan

                        • @flud: update:
m2m is a business acct, im not 'the owner' because its given from the company i work at… unable to get eSIM, will have to ask my boss for the account owner to get it.

prepaid: they said no they cannot do it.

I'm going to try a different store tomorrow for the prepaid and followup on the m2m with work tomorrow.

                          /le sigh

                          • @Jay-rad: Oh yep with business account you’ll need written permission from the company/account owner. Which store did you go to?

                            • @flud: pac fair qld

                              • @Jay-rad: Ah I see. Might’ve been able to help if you were in NSW :( Could you turn PM on so I don’t have to keep bombarding the thread hahah

  • Would like to know if I can use Telstra prepaid with cellular Apple Watch

    • Most likely not

      • I wonder what the most cost effective option is for cellular supported Apple watches for the ozbargain crowd…?

        • For Telstra the only way right now is to get a postpaid plan + one number unfortunately

  • +1

Just ordered by phone OW with price match cost me 208.05 Thanks dealbot

  • Hi, guys, I'm on Telstra postpaid and had chat with Telstra rep says can't use a starter kit but he can transfer to prepaid and recharge with the plan I want so anyone has any clue how to do it? Thanks

    • I'm not sure, but I think they will charge you the full price for a recharge because this is a starter kit.

  • I'm tossing up between this one and the 10% off Boost deal - i'm leaning towards Boost as there is more data (peace of mind). What do you guys think?

    • Only you know your own data usage or ability to manage it.

  • Thanks, dealbot, a real bargain. Whilst 12 mo is a long time in such a dynamic world there are also 6 month options. Only your last line needs citation: Any means whatever they dictate, it is a take it or leave-it arrangement.

    Time to visit "Hell" again…

OW no 6 mths stock so ordered a 12. Warning! Country delivery fee $24.95 but free to nearby store. OW gets floode with orders.

  • I've managed to price beat to Officeworks too on the phone.
Does the Officeworks Telstra $300 include Unlimited International calls to China ?

I can't see it displayed on officework website

  • +1

Thanks OP, I ordered the 60 GB / 6 Month SIM for $99. According to a Telstra Rep via Chat, there is no time Limit to activate the SIM. Also, you can't use these to Top Up an existing Telstra Pre-paid SIM, but he said you can activate the new SIM and port the number from the old SIM, Telstra to Telstra. This is more involved than simply recharging, but since you only need to do it every 6 or 12 months, it is worth the savings.

    • I think you have been mis-informed, you can't port an existing Telstra service into a pre paid service, at least not one that was activated with a starter kit.

  • Unlimited international calls to Brazil, Canada, China, Germany, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Nepal, New Zealand, Pakistan, Philippines, Singapore, South Africa, South Korea, Thailand, UK, USA and Vietnam.

  • I Wish i wouldnt have bought BOOST 240GB sim for 240 and instead got this, still got it unopened in WA, if any one wants can pick in same price…

    • Keen on this if you're still looking to move it on!

      • If you wanna get that Boost Sim send me a private msg. I'll give U that and buy this

  • i don't understand how easily satisfied you folks are; when they raised the price by $19, i wasn't expecting the response "good price nonetheless" … we should've demanded for an additional 50 GB ^^^facepalm

  • Currently on phone to Telstra and being told they can't transfer my post paid number to this prepaid if I've already bought the SIM 🙄

    • Keep us posted since I am also thinking about porting from post paid telstra to telstra.

    • I got the same. Wanted to change over from postpaid to prepaid. Got told the only options for the 365 day was to get the 12 month SIM for $219 and get a new phone number, or change over to prepaid, and pay $300 to charge up my account for that plan. I stayed on postpaid and tried my luck with online chat. Same thing, only for new number or transferring from another carrier.

      • The packaging states "You can keep your own number"

    • I'm waiting for a call back as I had to head out. Stopped by a Telstra shop on way home and they said to call in tomorrow if over the phone couldn't do it.

    • Online chat seems to be helping - "This is what I am going to do now with the approval of my supervisor. I will switch your number now to prepaid. Once it is completed, you need to contact us again so we can activate the new sim and we will trasnfer the $300 credit to the old number."

    • I got told the complete opposite via online chat today - that I need to purchase the SIM card first so that they can transfer my number from post paid to pre paid. Bought the SIM card now, I hope they were right
