Edit: disregard this one is double data, sorry OP didn't read description properly

Got one yesterday! Work out much cheaper than $40 I am paying with only 5gb per month.

    • Yeah, what's that $12.50 a month and 10gb data.
Too low for the data for me but would suit some.

Circles.life click frenzy deal was better. Wonder if they'll do another deal for Black Friday…

  • Does this work with eSIM's ?

    • Should do

  • +2

    No Optus sport?

  • Can I switch from Optus sim only plan?

  • No international calls?

  • Interested in this one. I wonder if i can port in my prepaid optus number to this plan.

  • available for New customers only. Once again Optus make it clear that the only way you can get a good price is to leave and wait for them to have a good offer

    • +2

it's pretty much the same with any other telco

    • Do you count as a new customer if you're currently on an Optus plan (month to month)?

      • +1

No I asked and they weren't interested apparently they and most Telcos would rather lose a client than offer them the same deal to stay as they offer to get new people so just be like me change suppliers and wait for a good offer from them before changing again

        • Thanks. Sounds like I'll have to port out to an amaysim $2 sim then back in then…. Joy!

          • @Some-Guy: does port out and then back in works? Is there a waiting period? My contract with Optus ends recently & plan to move to this.

            • +1

@desteoh: If you buy the buy the sim and you're an existing optus customer, they can probably help you out in store. Otherwise port out to telstra or something with a free sim and port back in. Can probably do it over a couple of days.

  • any idea what the instant reward is?

    • ahh quick google revealed this

  • Do these have a long activation expiry date?

    • +2

      Two-ish years

      • thanks!

  • Can't activiate online with this deal for some reason atm, so you may have to call optus support.

  • Optus Prepaid doesn't support Wi-Fi calling or SMS over Wi-Fi, right?

    • don't know but after 5 days, I still haven't received my bonus data as promo. I would avoid this deal, optus marketing didn't communicate with the prepaid service team, so it's a massive c*ck up.

I'm trying to get a refund now and eventually port out.

      • Did you ever resolve what happened to the bonus data? I am in the same boat. Seems pretty crap.

  • Wish I could rollover my existing data… Grr. They should allow existing customers the dogs.

  • This offer is perfect for me because I'm running a dual sim setup in my iPhone 11 pro and Telstra data is rubbish in regional WA, so this way I get to use Optus for data and Telstra for VoLTE calls/coverage and backup data,

I went on the Optus site to place the order, I put all my details in, processed the payment through after pay, then was directed to the Optus processing order page… it got stuck and never loaded, and refreshed the page and it came back saying there was an error processing the payment, meanwhile I've received a confirmation email from after pay saying the payment is processed.

Optus have no record of my order or payment and are telling me to wait at least until Monday sigh

This is going to be fun. They've taken my money and it seems I don't have an order placed. Live chat were useless

  • Seems to good to be true, any catch?

      • With the Optus network
      • Online only
      • If an existing customer, you may need to port out and port back. You also will not be able to rollover your existing data.
  • +2

Can confirm the sim expiry on the pack is 2021

But to get the 60gb + 60gb bonus data it needs to be activated by 12/01/2020

Otherwise only 60gb data if activated after that period

I’m curious to know whether they will do another bonus data promo if I don’t activate the sim yet perhaps in 6-12 months time??

  • Offer only valid when you activate online, which is absolutely impossible to do. At every step their website experiences technical difficulties and tells you to call. Have been on hold twice now, both times well over 30 minutes. Still not activated.

  • Thanks OP! Found activating and porting my number super easy - took a whole 2 minutes from Telstra to Optus. My Optus app showed up as having 60 gig data , I gave them 24 hours to update and then Msged Optus through the app to ask where my other 60 gig was. A few minutes later they confirmed it had been added to my account. It shows up as "mydata bonus 60 gig" separately. So all in all pretty happy with Optus so far.

  • Never received the Instant Reward when activated my SIM. On chat with Optus atm, they seen to not know their promotion very well, had to confirm what promotion it is by telling them to Google it themselves and confirm whether I recharged more than $30 or more. Now waiting for 5min+ while he "checks with his team"

    • Well apparently the SMS will come through 15min to 72 hour. So much for "instant".

      • So after over an hour conversation over both phone and chat. They couldn't figure out why I'm still not receiving the Instant Reward SMS. Mafena from prepaid team over the phone told me "it could take until the expiry of your service to receive the SMS, but since your service expires in a year, that doesn't make sense. Please wait for 21 days." (??????? Was my reaction)

Drew from a senior resolution specialist through chat couldn't figure it out either but reassured me the response from Mafena is the "right marketing process" (yes, they're defending their own employee even though I don't care and just want my problem solved) and escalated my issue to a "Case Manager" and I got told to wait another 2-10 business day for a callback.

I'm having a really shit year with telecommunication company. First Vodafone (posted my experience on Vodafone BYO NBN deal thread) and now this.

  • Anything we should be wary about with this? About to buy later this arvo

  • Merged from Optus Prepaid Epic Value Starter Kit 120 GB Unlimited Standard Calls and Texts for $150 (Save $30) for 12 Months + Free Delivery
    Go to Deal

    What does it include?

Buy a SIM now and activate on Optus Prepaid Epic Value to receive:

Better data deal than Boost for its value I reckon! No international calls is a bummer though, however most of us don’t make international calls.

Click it, view it, like it, buy it - harder better faster stronger

    • I have been meaning to transfer my missus who is on optus prepaid to the boost deal. Can existing optus prepaid numbers get onto this plan?

      • This plan is not from Boost, so this isn't the deal your wife is looking for.

To move from an existing Optus prepaid to this deal, you'll need to port out of Optus, then port back in when you activate the starter kit.

    • I just transferred from Optus pp to boost! Grrr

    • When does the Sim need to be activated by? Can't seem to find it

    • Offer ends 19/01/20

      • $180 SIM Starter Kit with 120GB Online: New customers only. Offer valid when SIM is purchased online and activated between 26/11/19 and 12/01/20

        • Website has two dates listed actually.
          12/1 and 19/1.

          • +1

@bohn: The way I read it, the 19/1 date is for winning instant rewards. The 12/1 date is mentioned specifically as the expiry of the double data deal. Think there's also another date for when the $30 discount finishes, just to add complication.

    • wish Boost would come to the party and release a medium 365 day plan with something like 8GB a month.

    • Where I normally go & stay, Optus>Voda>Telstra, I'm on Telstra.

      • For reference, that symbol means "greater than", i.e. 5 > 3. Do you really mean that Telstra is the worst of the bunch?

    • +1

Can you purchase the recharge etc now and not activate it til near end of feb? Cos thats when the current plan ends.

      • Wanted to know also. My kogan expires 28 Jan 2020.

    • Do you get free esim thrown in with this for Apple Watch? I currently get it with my post paid plan

    • Any clues as to how to get a cheap data share sim included on Optus like the $5 ones on Telstra business

    • Is it possible to get a discounted Optus Sports package attached to this?

      • +1

Its $5 per 28 days of access with this plan

  • My boost PP expirez soon. Whats the state of 5G with optus and is there a roaming option?

  • +1

The expiry for purchase and double data has now changed to 29/03/2020 but the instant rewards ends 19/01/2020. Whats the easiest/cheapest port in/out service?

  • New customers only. Offer valid when SIM is purchased online by 29/3/20 and activated by 5/4/20. Bonus 60GB data applies to first recharge only on Optus Prepaid Epic Value plan. Bonus Data may take up to 72 hours to apply. For use in AU.

    • Any idea what the first recharge means? I was expecting to get 120GB when I activated, am only seeing 60GB. How does this work?

      • Did you end up getting it?

      • Not sure, I was thinking the same thing. It does say in the "Important Info" section that the bonus data may take up to 72 hours to apply.

I'm guessing (could be wrong) that the first recharge is actually the activation. Would be best to call Optus though to be sure.

      • Any news on this??

  • Offer ends 12/01/20
    Huh?

    • +1

offer has been extended until 29/03

      • can you update the title please

  • Their 10Gb international data for only $20 beats even going with local sim in Japan.

    • Can you buy/stack two $20 packs to get 28 days access?

      • Not sure, I only used one pack, but it was very easy to activate using their Android app while in Japan.

  • +1

I ordered one of these a week ago. No delivery yet and tracker via Startrack shows "unable to find your Optus order number".

Optus online directed me to ring their call centre. Called their call centre and they advised they are having logistical issues with their Sims. They do not have an ETA at all and it could be days, weeks or months. Their solution was to purchase a $2 sim card from an Optus store and to then call prepaid support to transfer the $180 prepaid plan across to that sim card.

Not sure why they would run a promo if they are unable to even provide the product. Very poor experience with Optus so far and already regretting the purchase and haven't even ported to them yet..

    • Any update on this? I just looked at their site and can see the message about their logistical issues.

      • +1

I had the same advice but mine arrived on 27/2 and order was made on 20/2. No tracking details on Startrack website but the delivery just came by.

Btw my port over from Aldi was instantly.

  • Does anyone else find this concerning?

From the Critical information summary here:

    Service expiry
To keep your service active you need to recharge 186 days from
your credit expiry, otherwise you may require a new SIM card to
use the service and you may not be able to continue using your
    mobile number.

    • Your number will still be able to receive calls and txt after plan expires. Plenty of time to port out or recharge. It's always been 186 days.

      • perhaps this is the sleep deprivation talking, but I read it as saying that unless you recharge with optus 6 months before the 365 days ends, 'you may require a new SIM card to use the service and you may not be able to continue using your mobile number'.

Is this some historic legal inclusion that bears no weight in reality?

  • -1

I'm gonna order today, so… gonna miss out on the extra 60GB right?

And can port from Optus Postpaid to this prepaid?

  • Just got extended again, haven't activated yet, do you think I can activate after the activation date of the last deal? 5/4/2020
