80

Down from $2099. A pretty good price for a very good AV Receiver. Specs say it all - 180W RMS at 6 ohms. I already have the X2500H and can vouch for Denon's quality and features as would many others. See website for more info. Shipped with tracking and complimentary insurance. Shipping to my place in Victoria is $18 and click and collect from their store is available.

Also the price of X2500H has dropped to $950: https://www.digitalcinema.com.au/denon-avr-x2500h-7-2-channe…

I have the X2500H and wish I got the X3500H.

Note that these are last year's models.

    • The X3600H has quite a few changes over this model, particularly around Atmos processing, so check first before you the red bargain mist comes down.

      • Cheers for the heads up!

      • X3600H has two extra channels 9.2 v 7.2

      • It has atmos virtualization which is the rubbish used in soundbars to simulate atmos and it's not even close to the real thing. If you're spending $2000 on an AVR like the x3600H I'm going to assume you actually have height speakers. (if you want an atmos setup that is). Main difference is the extra 2 channels. And you'll be paying a premium for it.

Saying it has changes with it's "atmos processing" is misleading for people who are unaware about this sorta stuff.

    • phew, thank you - misread and almost bought it expecting the 3600

  • I'm out of the loop with receivers…

Have a 10 year old Yamaha 5.1 HTIB in the family room - can I use the speakers and sub from that with, say, the X2500H?

…and is there anything cheaper or better bang for buck than the X2500H that will do Atmos / DTS:X etc (obviously will need a few extra speakers for ATMOS too), or is the X3500H worth the extra $450 for more power / features?

Speakers are transferable for sure. Perhaps you can invest in the speaker cable since the HTIB cables are super thin and you have used it for 10yrs now. Denon is known for its quality in reproducing sound in the AVR world. The greatest upgrade besides the power you have mention is that the X3500 has external pre-out for further amplification down the road if you wish. So you can buy a dedicated power amplifier to power your new speakers. This will future proof you receiver longer and have the flexibility, should you need more power in your speakers.

      • Appreciate the reply ;)

As long as your speakers and sub are rated 6 or 8 ohms you should be fine. Personally, I wouldn't match 4 ohms speakers with this amplifier. The other thing you need to bear in mind is the power rating of the speakers. If your speakers have ara rated 50W RMS then you'd need to be careful with this receiver. It's very powerful and can drive higher power so you shouldn't be turning the amp to full power with those speakers.

      • Cheers mate.

My Denon AVR-2807 is in desperate need of an upgrade so i'm considering the Yamaha RX-V685. Can be picked up for around $700 with 20% off codes on ebay. Seems to be great bang for buck.

      • Have just been researching the last hour or two, and yeah, the RX-V685 looks good, although it doesn't seem to have as many HDMI inputs as some others (5 instead of 6 or 7), and no in-built ChromeCast from what I can see?

Am also seeing references to things like eARC, HDMI 2.1, and HDCP 2.3, all of which the RX-V685 has?

        • Yeah it does have those things. It's probably closest in specs to the AVR-X1600H but a little cheaper. Chromecast isn't an issue for me as the TV and media player both have it built in.

Just a warning to anyone looking to get this to go with an LG TV, you may experience super annoying intermittent audio dropouts over Optical Output or ARC. I recently had this issue with my C9 and a Peachtree amp, but when researching I found a lot of people with Denon AVR's having the issue too. A person in this thread had the issue with the X3500H: https://lgcommunity.us.com/discussion/462/lg-oled-55c7p-audi….
And another thread with different Denon: https://www.cnet.com/forums/discussions/lg-oled-audio-droppi…

I've recently just purchased a Yamaha RX-V1085 and it does not have this problem, nor did the RX-V685 that I tested prior to purchasing the 1085.

If you use an external device into the amp first like a nvidia shield this won't be an issue, but I wanted to be able to take advantage of the HDMI 2.1 ports on the C9.
This requires plugging directly into the TV then using eARC or Optical back to the AVR.

    • Interesting. I have an lg C8 and a 2500h and have no problems like this. I wonder what the difference is? Exclusive to the c9?

Seems like the issue has been around since the B/C7, since that was the start of the thread. Not sure about anything before that. There is a guy on there with a DCS BARTOK DAC ($23k AUD) which has the problem. Just seems to be luck of the draw with certain combinations of hardware.

  • Anyone made this puppy work with a PS4 pro? My 3400H does not do 4k. Although that might be my Philips BDM43UC not having HDR. Trying to rule out possibilities.

    • I have a PS4 pro and Xbox One X connected to this, as well as an LG C8, and it all works well. HDR/4k etc.

      Edit: sorry, I mean I have a 2500h.

      • Do you have second hdmi out?

        • There is a second hdmi out, but I don't use it.

The consoles are connected via HDMI to the Denon (just outputting audio/video to Denon), and the Denon is connected to the TV via HDMI also (output to TV but also audio from TV can go back to the Denon via ARC). Hope that makes sense.

          • @skrot: Yeah it does, thanks for trying to help, no closure just yet. I'll need to try some more configs.
