Pay the $49 more and get the MSI gaming

    • what's the difference exactly? have been out of the game for a while.

      • +4

The MSI Gaming X model is considered one of the top cards. Very quiet and keeps way cooler than the others.

        • Thanks. spec wise the measurements make it look like a tank compared to this one.

    • +4

      Probs not worth the $49

    • I will include it in the post just in case someone prefers the MSI GAMING. Cheers.

      • ~I believe CA also have the evoke card for $570. Not a great card, but fine enough for anyone just wanting a cheap 5700xt with the improved cooler (per gamers nexus's video).~

~Though if their cooler stock aren't the revised models, you'd have to send the card to MSI to get the improved cooler. ~

CAs 20% is over, hadn't realised.

  • Is this CPU worth it compared to the 2080ti, I mean is it worth it computational sense in geometry or rendering speed. Or wait for the 3080ti, but not really interested in ray tracing.

    • +3

Look at the prices, you're gonna pay like more than triple the price for a 2080ti. And no you don't get triple the performance, however what you get is the best performance available from a consumer card available today.

      • So you saying sli those 5700's for what cost power bill. Ahh

        • +2

Crossfire or SLI isn't worth it. 5700XT is good value for money but I think price/performance is mostly linear.

I've got a 5700xt and this was two months back so i'm not sure what the situation on first time users are now regarding drivers but my experience was horrible.

Literally spent over 15hrs in online forums to find every single setting tweak possible, ended up being pcie m.2 ssd ports having issues, had to reinstall windows due to nvidia drivers/monitor drivers not uninstalling cleanly enough. Had to use only default power settings in AMD control due to undervolts/overvolts being unstable. Had to remove my audio drivers for some odd reason they were clashing, my rgb control softwares were also clashing with AMD control.

It's stable now but keep in mind i've done alot to get here, also before I get axed by the wider ozbargain community I realise that I may be now part of a minority and that people adding this card to new builds may see much less errors than I did inserting it into my daily desktop of 3years. In any case I own a reference 5700xt and this was my experience to date, my older 10 series gtx card had no issues, it was plug and play. Although this card is exceptional value, a few generations later if Nvidia are still on top regardless of price I would buy back into team green.

Always good to hear someones first hand experience. Thanks mate :)

    • I feel you. I put an ASRock 5700xt in my system 2 weeks ago and anytime I play a video with Hardware Acceleration (eg. Youtube in Chrome, VLC etc) I get constant hangs and BSOD’s. Only way I’ve managed to fix it is by turning off HW acceleration.

      • Same here. Did almost everything OP did and it turned out to be a simple toggle.

I have an AMD processor and Radeon graphics card in my computer, but I definitely feel that Intel/Nvidia have more polish on the products they release. I never really had driver issues on my nvidia setup but on my 3700x/570 setup I get weird driver warnings that I never saw on the intel/nvidia setup I had. Don't get me wrong, the performance is great, but it does tend to lack polish.

I find this permeates through to other areas, like AMD having the pins on the CPU and even the way the heatsink is secured to the processor…. Intel has a more polished experience here as well. But, like I said, the performance is incredible and the value for money is amazing.

      • Ive had many intel, AMD and Nvidia products over the past 20 years and I've had just as many problems with all 3 brands.

No company is better then the other when it comes to computer issues.

My current system is a 3700X/B450/RX470.. not a single issue so far :)

My previous system was a i3 6100T/H170/RX470 and on that one my monitor would go to sleep every now and then and never wake up it drove me insane. It was the motherboard switching to intel HD graphics at some point and no option in bios to turn it off or disable it. :)

    • +1

I've had the same problems with my Vega 56. Returned the first one due to repeated crashes and then the second one (diff variant) is now crashing, less frequently, but just doesn't perform as well as it should.

Unfortunately it's put me off AMD, I will probably buy my first nvidia card next against every fibre in my body :(

    • +2

Really? I had the complete opposite experience.

Rebooted into safe mode, DDU'd the old drivers, swapped an RX480 for a reference 5700, started up, installed latest drivers, and I Was done.

No glitches, issues, crashes, concerns for weeks so far. In fact, went into the settings and turned on auto-undervolt, and have been playing Borderlands 3 on ultra settings, 1440p60 with Vsync, card sits at 0.936v-ish under full load and temps in the low-mis 70's, can barely hear the card to be honest.

Really impressed at the price/performance ratio.

Not a single crash, or error with any type of usage. 1440p youtube, browsing, games, etc. Not sure what other people are doing to get constant crashes with basic tasks.

      • +2

Yeah wonder if OP used DDU? Anyone in the same situation, highly suggest you give it a shot before writing off the card. Thought I got a dud card too and was regretting joining team red, but I think the issue was old drivers on my system.

My own experience: I upgraded from a 1060 to 5700XT, and just popped the new card in without uninstalling old drivers and had loads of blue screen crashes every 30-60 minutes. Then I did the following process (got it off reddit somewhere):

        1. Download DDU and disconnect internet (to stop Windows auto updating drivers).
        2. Run DDU and do a full removal of BOTH radeon/nvidia drivers.
        3. Restart PC
        4. Run DDU and do full removal of both, again.
        5. Restart PC.
        6. Reconnect internet and install latest radeon drivers.

After that you'll hopefully be golden, my card now runs all day without issue. Not sure that whole process is necessary but it worked for me.

        • +1

Can confirm that I used DDU straight away via safemode according to all relevant steps above perfectly. Just didn't work out, make no mistake I could game on it right from the beginning and I got the right fps but it was just unstable as hell with frequent crashes going in and out of games as well as bsod's.

For reference my main workstation is a z370-E gaming from ROG running an 8700k with every single sata port populated by a 1tb samsung ssd and the boot drive being a 512gb m.2. My GPU was the reference ASUS 5700xt model and there's way too much I changed in bios as well as elsewhere to get it to stop crashing but mate i'm totally jealous of the fact that your one was just plug and play.

My guess is that going from AMD -> AMD you had an easier time overall settings wise compared to NVIDIA -> AMD but this is completely unfounded speculation on my part so blegh.

      • Same here - I got my Gigabyte 5700XT on Saturday. Did a straight swap for my old R9280 and it just worked.

I updated the drivers anyway, activated Freesync etc and have played many hours of RDR2 etc at 3440 x 1440 with no issues.

Yet to download the free copy of Borderlands 3 that comes with it….

        • Did you get your 5700 XT from FTC Computers? If so, did it actually come with borderlands 3?

Mine didn't, and I'm just wondering if they take the code out of the box or what.

    • +1

Thanks for sharing, this is exactly the kind of thing I need to hear. I'm tossing up between a 5700xt and 2070s, as someone whose been using a gtx1060 for years I didn't even realise issues like this existed.

    • Next time run driver "Display Driver Uninstaller" before removing old card and putting in new one.

      https://www.guru3d.com/files-details/display-driver-uninstal…

  • Argh, I've been waiting to pull the trigger on buying this card, I'm not sure if this will be the best deal for the week though. Plus with the announcement of new VR Half life I'm not sure if this card would be the way to go for VR performance.

    • +1

Early next year will be the release of 2nd Gen of RDNA, this'll be the same tech in the next PlayStation and XBox consoles. I figure that'll last me while those games are being ported to the PC.

  • I faced exactly the opposite. Was with AMD and moved to a 1070ti. Nothing but trouble trying to over Clock my monitor which was an easy task with AMD. Also had crashing trying to get multiple monitors to work with NVIDIA. I have just bought the 5700 XT gaming x. I can't wait.

    • That's odd I remember importing my 770 4gig gtx from some place in America on Amazon to Australia even til this day from 2014 it stil works.

Sadly I cannot speak about Amazon tight arses now.

  • Few days for Black Friday deals. Wish 5700xt gaming go little further down.

I been hearing amd is king on price and core value, and are definitely a company never to ignore when comparing to Nvidia or intel, however when it comes to math Intel windls on single core clustered in 4 and each cores usually 32$ upwards to $200 per core, so intel definitely define each core with a purpose (as disgusting it was to release a cpu with soldered cores back in 2010) now Nvidia are definitely well adverse in driver integration and seemless support (like someone with a iPhone complaining how infuriating android is)can definitely be a problem for amd customers especially new ones, but we can all agree if it wasn't for amd we could have communist computer gear under a tight regeme, however I cannot speak for Nintendo and their partner ship with Nvidia or even Alienware.

But with knowledge comes power, people power.

  • +1

IMHO this is the best deal yet, I got a reference one for 565 near launch but I think this is a better deal.

  • my 5700XT has been flawless…. no issues. although the mech is one of the worst 5700XT in terms of cooling its still better then the reference model. I think at this price one cant complain and it will still do the job just fine.

However the $50 extra for the Gaming X is absolutely worth it.

  • Haven't received mine yet, been 6 working days, anyone received theirs yet?

    • According to the tracking, mine hasn't even been picked up. I don't think it will make it in the ebay estimated time.

They are using sendle which after looking at some reviews are terrible.

I am on leave this week and was hoping to have it tomorrow, but it looks like I will be waiting at least another week on this.

  • Same here. Tracking number received, but item has not been picked yet. Not happy.

  • Same here, bought an eGPU enclosure the same day from Microsoft store and it has already arrived but no GPU to use. eBay says it has been shipped on Saturday last week, Sendle says it was scheduled to pick up today but it seems nothing has happened. Not happy either. :(

  • I contacted seller as I was going on Holidays today and asked him to cancel the item if it cant be delivered before 10th. Item summary stated by 4-5th December.
It was not delivered till Friday last week and I had to ask him to either express post or cancel order.
Got it Express delivered on 9th and also asked the game codes and claimed from AMD. checked it to be working. Tweeking and testing will happen after break :)
