32" Full HD Vivo LCD TV from Eljo $299 + $29 Shipping to Metro Areas

50

I just snagged one of these, however, to my horror i realised that Eljo lied (or were at least deceptive)

They said last friday that todays deal would compete with the JB 299 deal during their post last week (refer to comment
http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/49338#comment-537750)
so they baited me for a whole week (seriously ive been hanging on all week for this deal, and waited till 12:30 am for the newsletter)
when i saw it, i snapped it up immediately and i just paid for the TV, only to realise, its only a 50HZ tv….the soniq was 100hz. thats a HUGE difference.

the vivo owners manual online says its a 50/60hz. but cant confirm which it is exactly. i want more hertz!
will probably ask for my order to be cancelled tommorrow.
http://www.vivotvs.com/Manuals/LTV32FHD.pdf

but for any1 else who doesnt care that the tv is not 100hz, based on current market prices (no1 seems to have a sale on these spec tv atm, besides the crappy OKANO at jb) this is the cheapest around

to the Eljo rep who will probably read this: give us a better deal (beat $299?) and i wont ask for a refund! or give us a deal on a REAL 100hz 32" tv.

    Amen

I felt the exact same way.

EDIT: Also WTF at the # of HDMI ports,it says 3,but wherever I look online they all say 2. Clarify if what we are looking at is what is being advertised.

EDIT2: according to the picture: http://upload.ozbargain.com/2011/05/24/5934_dsc00382.jpg, the TV was actually 50Hz, so I withdraw my above comment. Still want confirmation on the number of HDMI ports though!

EDIT3: Only plays MPEG1 and MPEG2, I'm pretty sure the Soniq could play .mkv and atleast .avi

According to the website shipping to metro areas is $39.95 not $29?

    • Nation Wide Metro shipping is $29.95. This can be checked by going into Cart

  • The 32" Nu-Tec from last week at Eden Rise Coles, Berwick Vic, was 100Hz, Full HD, 1080i, 3 hdmi? for $289.

    • +1

      1080i is not full hd

      • The Nu-tec specified a "Full HD Tuner" in the specs, so one could only assume "Full HD"

if you are going to make the comment, at least explain your reasoning.

I think he means that there are two conflicting features: 1080i and "Full HD". Given manufacturers lack of care when stating "Full HD", "HD" or whatever, i would be inclined to think that 1080i is the true "resolution" - which is not "full hd" (full HD would be 1080p).

here is an interesting read from http://reviews.cnet.com/1080i-vs-1080p-hdtv:
          2. Why 1080p is theoretically better than 1080i
1080i, the former king of the HDTV hill, actually boasts an identical 1,920x1,080 resolution but conveys the images in an interlaced format (the i in 1080i). In a tube-based television, otherwise known as a CRT, 1080i sources get "painted" on the screen sequentially: the odd-numbered lines of resolution appear on your screen first, followed by the even-numbered lines—all within 1/30 of a second. Progressive-scan formats such as 480p, 720p, and 1080p convey all of the lines of resolution sequentially in a single pass, which makes for a smoother, cleaner image, especially with sports and other motion-intensive content. As opposed to tubes, microdisplays (DLP, LCoS, and LCD rear-projection) and other fixed-pixel TVs, including plasma and LCD flat-panel, are inherently progressive in nature, so when the incoming source is interlaced, as 1080i is, they convert it to progressive scan for display.

Exactly a lot of these 32" are 1366 x 768 (720P/1080i) some of these sets are advertised as "Full HD" or HD which is misleading. If your only intention is to watch TV you may not notice the difference as TV is broadcast at a maximum 1080i. But if you are watch Blurays or Gaming there is a big difference. Some people have said on this size if you are > 1M away you wont notice the difference. I went from a Bush 32" 1366 x 768 to a Soniq 32" 1920 x 1080 in my bedroom and the difference is huge. My advice dont buy a 32" 1366 x 768 hold out for the next cheap True HD 32".

      • Um… Yeah it is, its just an older less popular format.

  • Why are you so wrapped up with this particular brand name?
The brand is obscure and has such an ugly name that I wouldn't want to brandish it on my television. Furthermore, it is only about on par or a bit less with JB's similar offerings which makes it a pretty average deal.

  • You give us a bargain which you think was a rip off, then you try and blackmail and Eljo rep for a better deal. Wow you definitely work in sales…….

    • But he has a fair point, he was told this deal is competitive with the jb deal, waited a week only to find the jb deal smashed it all along… The impulse buy may not have been the best idea though.

    In our very brief defence…

This deal is very competitive with the Soniq at JB Hifi. Both are 32" 50Hz Full HD LCD TV w PVR for $299.

The Soniq, according to the manual (available here - ftp://ftp.quatius.com.au/Manuals/l32v11a.pdf) was only 50/60Hz as well. Nowhere in the other ozbargain post did it mention 100Hz. Im not too sure where you got that information from (happy to stand corrected if you can provide evidence to the contrary).

This offer does in fact compare to the soniq, being a 32" Full HD LCD TV for the same price.

Also, pick up is free in Melbourne & Sydney.

    • omfg can i amend my order
cause i chose shipping but i didnt know u cud pickup in sydney? it said melbourne only!

      • Hi Furythree,

You can certainly amend your order. Just send an email to [email protected] and let us know you wish to change to Pick up and we will send through all the details for pick up. Please note these will not be available for pick up until next week.

        • thanks i ammended my order
can u indicate where the pickup will be and the times? like weekends etc
can you also find out whether it can do 60hz. i admit i was being a bit harsh, but since i wont be watching bluerays on this, i only reallly need 60hz.

    • Hi can you tell me what the australian energy rating for this tv is (you know that star rating sticker u see everywhere)

      • +1

        Hi Punk,
This TV is 3.5 Stars under the new energy scale. The approximate running costs at 10hrs a day is $58.90 per year.

    complaining never hertz ;)

  • looks alright

  • Bit puzzled by this bargain post…
Basically saying there's a TV for sale which is not as good as another deal (with no link to the other deal) and its not what you wanted.
You can't blame Eljo, it's your own fault for not reading the specs.
I'm pretty sure they wouldn't have advertised it as being 100Hz if its not.
It's a cheap TV, which may suit some people on a budget; if you want the better specs you have to pay more for them.

  • Can you please confirm the vesa mounting plate size on the back of the TV for wall mounting.

BTW I love my current Vivo 42" so may buy this to replace/return the Soniq 32" to JB as it already has had 2 faults.

But one thing I notice between the 2 is the volume. Anything above 5 on the Vivo is loud (can only have it on 1 at night as it wakes everyone up) but the Soniq I have to turn up to 20 minimum, which is a bit more 'normal' as most TV's you turn up to 15-25 on the volume control

    • +1

Don't rely on the built-in speakers of cheap TV's they almost always suck. Mine starts to distort at any volumes >50%, which is obviously pathetic so I connect it up to a HIFI system or use headphones at night usually. You mentioned your new Soniq has acquired faults already, what is the matter with it?

  • VESA mounting plate size - 200 x 200.

    • WOW, thanks. every other 32"+ TV (including other 32" Vivo models) I've looked at are 200 x 400 and I can't find a 200 x 400 vertical mounting bracket as they all appear to only be 200 x 200 so this will be perfect.

      • you may find what you need on this site:
        http://www.selbyacoustics.com.au/storefrontprofiles/DeluxeSF…

        • Thanks, but that type presents a similar issue to the ones that mount on a horizontal beam(s), that you need 2 of them within the maximum spread of the mounting. I have no horizontal beams above 1.2 meters off the floor and my vertical beams are all the full width of the plaster so many just don't work. I needed the swivel arm type that just attaches to 1 vertical beam but these all seem to be only vesa 200 x 200 - extension arms or plates to make these 200 x 400 available on US ebay are more than the cost of the original mounting arm.

  • We can provide the following:
    http://www.eljo.com.au/Tauris_CMW624_Wall_Mount_p/tau-cmw624…

    With this extension plate:
    http://www.tauris.com.au/acc404/

This should do the trick for what you are looking for.

We can throw in the extension plate for you for free, making the total $65 + shipping.
