I am not sure the leaflet didn't say you have to pay the $4.99 and the website has the following

"GET $20 TO SPEND ON LUNCH!!
No commitment upfront! Save 40% on meals when you reserve a meal on MealPal!"

      then at the bottom

Get $20 in your account + order your first lunch free. Valid for new and lapsed customers who do not have a current cycle. Meals are available on weekdays, excluding holidays. $20 balance will be added within 48 hrs to qualifying customers only. Pay $4.99 membership fee which auto-renews every 30 days. You may cancel any time.

not only that…. they don't allow you to remove your credit card from the account. The meals are also not as good as they used to be, with most places giving you a cut down version of their normal offering.

Agree! They seriously have to address this issue. Yes, you pay less with Mealpal, but most places discriminate you by giving you half the normal serve size.

Current member here and for certain cafes, this is certainly the case. I went to Nama Poke on erskine st Sydney and noticed that my mealpal portion is smaller than what people pay full price for. They’re certainly not getting a second go.

@so_fetch: Yes agree, was a frequent customer of veggie box at north sydney and the packed the salad boxes to the brim. Ordered through mealpal once and it was half full. Complete joke. Didnt go there anymore with or without mealpal

            • @mintygirl: Imagine that. Paying less and getting less.

Who would have thought a business probably needs to make some money on what they sell.

MealPal used to be good during the various promos earlier (free Coles voucher, $4 meals etc). Now cafes give reduced potion sizes and choice is limited. I gave up about 3 months ago.
