  • I'm curious at what it is without the foxtel badging all over it. Anyone got some specs on this thing? Seems a reasonable price for an Android TV box…

Pitter patter let's git at 'er

Yeah, I owned one for a short time. You couldn't use it for Netflix and a few other things. Won't play back movies if you have any on a hard drive. Only really good if you have Foxtel/Kayo. Maybe it suits some people out there but I didn't really like it.

    • No side loading capabilities?

      • Not sure sorry

      • You can sideload Netflix onto it.
I have Amazon prime on it and it works perfectly

Don't do it. It's an android box in theory but in truth very limited unless you really want to use it to watch Foxtel. No official Netflix support and probably no disney plus once launched. I think the only way you can watch kayo on it is if you cast and even that was bad experience. Save your money.

    • Disney+ confirmed! In the Google Play Store. Installed and works a treat.
Kayo from the the App Store too - works well.

  • so this vs Vodafone tv? just using as android box will be installing own apps etc, which spec is better

I'd go with the Vodafone TV over this

    Foxtel 😂

    Sorry,
as is said every time this box is posted (and usually cheaper) just get the Vodafone TV instead!.

Better to sideload the foxtel app onto that, than sideload everything else onto this.

Not a valid reason to neg. also the Foxtel app is terribly buggy on VTV.

      • It is if the VTV is a generic android-TV box with no advantages. This has been covered many times before.

It is not like an apple-vs-android comparison. Foxtel and Voda box are both oranges.

    Piece of shit

      you stole my comment

It's simply not that bad.. You can side load anything on it, it's a little buggy but not neg worthy.

    • Agreed. I picked one up last year. Primarily used for Netflix and Kayo. Sideloading was slightly annoying. But its really not that much extra time or effort and I honestly forgot until this thread that I had to do it.

Other boxes are definitely better. But they're usually more expensive to so for ~$50 this thing is a decent buy.

Really depends on what you want out of it though. I just wanted a portable Kayo box mostly. Its current use is to add Netflix and Kayo to my 10 year old projector.

  • I'd get the Vodaphone box , and load this add on to Kodi.

      *Vodafone

  • I have the voda box and the fox box , same GUI the fox box is better every app side loaded works better, prime Netflix bbc iview channel four itv etc. Plus kodi from play store and the Kayo app works great no need to chromecast .

  • SO what is the best easy to use smart tv adaptor type box. That is easy to use for an aged person. I was thinking of a Roku of Firestick. Asking for my mother.

    • +1

I have 2 roku sticks for plex, youtube, streaming channels. They are very reliable and I haven't come across any bugs - just works. Get the US model if you do get one. The Australian version (on amazon au) is inferior.

Works ok for me. I use it as a set top box in the media room, and cast to it for anything else.

  • Want to get Kayo for my elderly father.
Do you think this would be an easy option for him, as I don't want him to worry about side loaded apps and messing with Kodi.

By the sounds of it, this is more plug and play for Kayo for him.

    Thanks everyone.

I use one for my dad for exactly that, so he can watch the rugby on kayo. He has no problems with it.

  • Didn't know the site had changed to Ozopinions.

OP did ask "Anyone have some comments on the box ?"

  • Only reason I use mine is the Foxtel channels and free to air are all in one. Vodafone tv trumps it in everything else.

    • Some people just use it for that. That's why I think the neg of some isn't valid.

      • Agreed. It does what it’s supposed to do well.

  • Voda TV

  • Vodafone TV vs Google Chromecast, which is better and why?

  • I bought 2 of these…they are terrible! I tried Chinese imports which were ok but crash often and overheat. I replaced them with the Vodafone TV box and it's great - the only issues I have is with connecting to a Yamaha YAS108 soundbar - sometimes it doesn't pass through video correctly until I reset the soundbar…and I never could get it to connect to any bluetooth speaker… Google chromecast is a whole other device - basically just a video/audio receiver - the Vodafone TV supports this also..
