Obviously not as cheap as buying just the standard versions, but if you really want the steel case (and have WISH giftcards) it's not so bad:

Thankyou, cancelled my JB HiFi order for this. With Wish cards, cost only $124.59.

  • Does anyone know how this works with their 'Pre-Order Price Guarantee'? I ordered the Sword Shield steelbook pack for $149 + postage using a gift card. Preorder guarantee only appears to work for release day price drops:

When you pay for your pre-order upfront and the price drops on release day you will be refunded the difference shortly after release.
Item will be available in Store and for Pick up after the release date.
Release date is subject to change.

Do I need to cancel this myself and repurchase to get this price?

    • Ok so for anyone actually wondering, you can call them on 1300244999 and cancel your order and then go online and place it again. It probably wasn't worth the hassle for me because I paid by discounted wish gc and the refund for the order takes 3-5 days to process (which she only told me AFTER she'd cancelled the order. So I ordered again through a new wish gc as I didn't want to risk the wait and now have a $152 GC to spend when it eventually does comes through.

  • Anyone else considering cancelling their order after all the leaks?

    • +2

Nope. The removal of old Pokemon is annoying sure but not nearly enough to make our family not want to play the games.

    • It looks pretty trashy given the opportunity they had on the switch and I really wish they'd slow down their development cycle but I'm a tragic Pokemon collector and have to buy 2 copies of each game just to get the different steelbooks :'(

I really hope a lot of people who aren't as invested cancel orders so they might realise people want quality over quantity.

    • I did. I will just wait for some reviews.

    • I've been playing pokemon since the OG game boy. Not a collector but don't honestly welcome the change. It's about time they updated world interaction. Only wish they updated battle mechanics.

I'd rather have more to do/explore than grind catching and evolving every pokemon. Bit ironic I know, given that it's pokemon after all, but it really doesn't bother me that they reduced the amount of pokemon in the game.

I definitely feel for those people though that have been collecting across the generations and subscribed to pokebank etc. Would definitely piss me off if that was the case :/

is there any local co-op on this? can two switches play local co-op with 2 copies of the game?

    • +1

In the Wild areas apparently there is co-op yes.

  • Thanks, ordered with WISH gift cards.

  • What's the deal with having two different versions of the game sorry? Is it the same game with different characters?

    • +3

Each version has Pokemon you can only catch in that one. Always been the case for basically every Pokemon game, 2 versions with version specific to catch. Gets them more sales I guess and encourages multiplayer trading etc.

      • Cool thanks. Seems like a lot extra to pay for some additional Pokemon.

  • Amazon just priced match @62.10. It'd be @57.10 for Prime member.
I just don't know how to post a new deal though.

  • Question for Pokemon enthusiasts… why would you buy both? Is it for a collector's standpoint or are they different games? I want to get back into Pokemon but I don't understand the difference between the versions… is it just that one pokemon?

Apart from the exclusive Pokemon, there are minor differences such as gym leader exclusive where in this game, you battle against a fighting type gym or ghost type gym. This was first introduced in black and white. In ruby and sapphire, there are minor differences in stories.

Most people can make do with just a singular version of the game and trade for version exclusives and might just trade back and forward some legendary Pokemon to complete the Pokedex.

    • +2

There'll be multiple exclusives in each version but I wouldn't worry too much about it as you can trade for the ones you can't get if there's some you really want. If you've got two Switches you can trade the starter Pokemon to yourself so you get all three which I occasionally do (you can only get one per play through).

I get both each time only for the physical collecting aspect but one copy usually stays unplayed. I'd recommend just getting one of them in your situation and pick the one with the legendary on the box you'd rather get (before trading to get the other).

Nice, my Amazon AU order has price-matched BIG W prices.

    • Including wish gift card discount?

      • +1

Nope just the base price ($134.10) - $5 Prime Saving = $129.10 Delivered

Amazon AU also comes with exclusive pre-order in-game bonus

Mine claims it won't come until next Thursday, what the hell was the point of preordering it wow

  • Any update?mine still says packed and ready to go from yesterday…

  • Has anyone received theirs yet? Mine was due to arrive yesterday and is arriving today. What is the point in preorders if they come a week after release? Was it just this version that was delivery only or does Big W never let you preorder and pick up in store?

Thanks EB Games 7 day returns for allowing me to play it over the weekend.
