  newbie question: If I buy the game from here, does it mean I won't be able to play with friends who bought it off steam? (missed out that one day in the summer deals)

    Yeah, you login to GameSpy for multiplayer, so I think you can do it wherever you got borderlands from.

  You can still play with friends who have it on steam.

  Note that you won't get the DLC with this so you'll need to purchase that if you get up to it in the game.

  If you can wait for a $5 GOTY version steam sale, you'd be better off.
