EA is literally the scrooge by not offering the full game, just the upgrade.

    • +1

yeah to need the base game aswell as the subscription service.
i bought it on pc when they said it would get the upgrade for free, hopefully pc is included at some point….

I bought a sealed copy of this game for $2 from EB Games about 4 years ago, it’s still in its original wrapping!

    • I played the closed beta on PC - cool and fun gameplay mechanics until it released and then it wasn't

    • +2

it’s still in its original wrapping!

      Where it belongs.

    • Comforting to know I'm not the only one :P

    • It is fun, worth playing if you can. It just doesn't have enough unique experiences that can keep a MMO / service game going.

I really liked this game, movement in it was phenomenal, just lacked an end game vision :(

    • +2

Agreed. It had brilliant game mechanics and graphics for its time, it just lacked a spark of creativity in the story and character progression which is where BioWare normally shines. Too many bad decisions forced by upper management and personnel changes in the middle put paid to that. I found the most fun I had was toodling around in Freeplay once the main storyline was finished.

    • This was my most hyped game when it was first announced and it had soooo much potential. Wish they would revive it!

  • It says save $1.50 with EA Play so $13.45?

Spent a great 20 or so hours playing through the campaign with my brother, the extreme level of hatred this game gets is hilariously over the top, its just another victim of the hysterical hate train that rolls around the internet “protecting” people from letting themselves enjoy something they like, that the unwashed masses have decided you shouldn’t.

    • +4

The game has a very troubled development history, it was rebooted multiple times and the final game was hastily put together with only 1yr of development time. It's not a hysterical hate train, the game is simply undercooked and unfinished and it definitely shows it. They never gave it the post-launch support it deserved.

Best to wait until you are on a PC or tablet, it's a lot of scrolling on a phone.

Your answer illustrates my point perfectly.
        I don’t need backstory, I played it, i enjoyed it, that’s it.

Yes the movement and shooting are well regarded for this title as being quite enjoyable, unfortunately it's everything else that surrounds it that is underdeveloped and unfinished. Give the backstory a read it may help you understand.

As someone who has played the game it will be an eye opener to what went wrong behind the scenes. It's extremely good games journalism done by Jason Schreier and very much worth a read.

People don't "hate" the game, basically everyone who plays it says the movement is awesome. The game though? it's simply not there to begin with. The development was extremely rushed and the game probably should've been cancelled instead of releasing in this state.

Read about how the performance captures were very expensive to do so they could only do one take on them, then the game missions were later changed so many cutscenes don't even make sense anymore and don't reflect what's happening in the gameplay etc.

The lack of endgame, the cookie cutter mission design that was quickly rushed in to build the campaign and never had time to go over and flesh it out etc.

They had some big plans for this game but unfortunately management and the direction for the game were very poorly handled so we missed out on what could've been remembered as one of the Bioware greats, they also lost a ton of talent from the studio during the troubled development.

That whole mid 2010's period seems to be littered with poorly received or cancelled AAA titles. Anthem certainly isn't alone.

        • Scalebound
        • Fable Legends
        • Simcity
        • No Man's Sky
        • Fallout 76
        • Duke Nuken Forever
        • Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5
        • Metal Gear Survive
        • Mass Effect: Andromeda
        • Aliens: Colonial Marines
        • Prey 2
        • Star Wars 1313

I blame the introduction of digital updates that allowed games to ship broken, and be fixed later. Obviously that didn't work out most of the time.

The fact you post anything from Kotaku, a hack journalist site that is bottom of the barrel, doesnt help your argument at all..
At least it was by Schreier before he left, so points for that.

        • +1

Jason is a good investigative journalist, I know a lot of his peers on the site can be quite rubbish and just churn out crap quality "articles" but you should take a look at the retrospective it's very in-depth. There's multiple reasons he left Kotaku and he was too good for that place IMHO. I think all publications owned by Gawker media are low quality but every now and then they do have some good pieces amidst the drivel.

I know Bioware has taken it out back, put 2 in and buried it…
But deep down I'm still praying by some miracle it isnt truly dead, just waiting patiently for the right team to come along that realises its true potential and give it the special care and attention it needs to bring it back to life and see it grow into the truly amazing game it could be.

    • +1

It’s not completely dead, you can play for free on Xbox Game Pass. Nowhere near as many players, though, so the world feels empty at times - especially in the evening hours for AU when the rest of the world is largely asleep.

  • Wow very surprised that the Full game isn’t free

Is it worth buying the game for this DLC at $2.99?

    Can it be played offline?

    • +1

online only. I played it last week so can confirm the server still on, although not too many people play. So for the most part you will be doing missions alone, which makes some things extremely hard or impossible even to complete.

      • Ok thanks
Wishing it was somewhat offline for solo

        • +1

Although, it is possible that this free offer will get a lot of people thinking about giving it another play, so you may see an influx of people, if only for a brief period
