LG UltraGear 27GL850 27" 144Hz QHD 1ms HDR10 G-Sync Nano IPS Monitor $692 + Delivery (Free with eBay Plus) @ Futu Online eBay

PSLEIGH

Not as cheap as the previous deal here (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/481285) but still a darn good price for what looks like a very good monitor. Cheapest price I can find anywhere.

I'm personally planning to pair this monitor with a new Ryzen build brought during the upcoming Black Friday sales.

If this is the monitor I'm thinking of.. Has no G-Sync module, 1ms is through overdrive and therefore not worth using, HDR 10 is a bit of a gimmick.

    • -1

Gsync modules are basically a waste of money.
The response time looks to be very good even with overdrive turned down
HDR is a gimmick when done poorly but none of it's competition in this price range have 'real' HDR anyway.

    • It specifically states it is GSync Compatible

      • +2
      • Being certified by nvidia for g-sync compatibility and actually having the g-sync module inside the monitor are two different things. Just putting it out there as lots of people seem to be getting confused.
G-sync compatibility means the monitor has been certified by nvidia to work properly on a software level of adaptive sync with an nvidia graphics card.

No idea why you're being downvoted. The "g-sync" is g-sync compatable/freesync/adaptive sync. The "1 ms" response time makes the monitor unusable according to reviews (or drops the refresh rate doen to 120/100hz? One of the two) and HDR10 is more useless then HR400.

Because despite these things, it's one of the best value monitors at the moment. Just mentioning the negatives as the first post is misleading.

It's worth checking out the Linus tech tips review on youtube where they make all these things clear, and still describe it as the best monitor of 2019.

That didn't seem like OP trying to slag it, rather trying to inform people. It being a great monitor doesn't justify shoddy marketing.

  • Is the contrast ratio really that bad for this monitor?

    • I think it has a contrast ratio of about 850:1, which is not too bad. Just make sure your room is not too dark.

  • Waiting for wireless1 restock, but this price is still good.

With all the promotion days incoming (singles, black friday etc etc). Would it be worth waiting or this price is about the average for discount anyways?

    • This price is amazing for a monitor not released not too long ago. I doubt it would ever get more than $50 cheaper than this anytime soon.

    • I'd like to know too.

  • I’m still tossing up between this and say a 1080 or 1440 P 144hz monitor

I already have a good IPS 4K monitor at 60hz and that’s kind of the sweet spot for 4K graphic intense games but I whale heard you should run 1080 or 1440 on a monitor that naturally displays that resolution. Plus I could save some cash. Shame my

    Very unsure

Shame my current monitor isn’t Full HDR 10 cause that’s a big selling point as well

    • 27" for 1440
      23" for 1080

Pixel density will be similar, bit better on the 27" 1440.

Honestly, I have no idea why anyone would get a 4k. What do you have to lower in-game settings to get close to 60fps?

A 27" 1440 really is the sweet spot for many years to come. You will have your monitor for your next upgrade. imagine running a game at constant 144fps at 1440. You not going to want anything else.

    Brightness: 350 cd/m2 (Typ) =/ HDR10

    fail on this one

  • I'm tossing up between this and the upcoming viewsonic nano ips monitor..

    https://www.tftcentral.co.uk/blog/viewsonic-elite-xg270qg-wi…

Any opinions on which way to go? Given that the viewsonic is being released this month I haven't seen any reviews yet.

This maybe sound stupid but I like a monitor with simple speakers built in for when I am doing general non gaming activities which the viewsonic has..

    • The viewsonic is gonna have a g-sync model, so the price would be similar or higher. I'd assume LG brand tax would be higher.

    • I think the Viewsonic elite will have colour problems e.g. oversaturation, with the LG 27gl850 you can change between standard sRGB and wide colour gamut.
