eBay Best Price Guarantee (Credit on Difference of Competitor's Price + 5% off, Max Claim $150) on New Fixed Price Items @ eBay

3280

With all the big sales events coming up (Singles day, Click Frenzy, Black Friday etc), I thought it would be a timely OzReminder for anyone that has purchased items through eBay but later find out it's cheaper elsewhere.

Found it for Less Within 48 Hours?
Claiming is Quick and Easy:

Make sure you have your item ID from your eBay purchase (found in your order confirmation) and a link to the identical item on the Approved Retailer's website

Chat to or call our customer service team and they’ll check the Approved Retailer's website and our T&Cs to ensure the product is eligible

If approved, we’ll give you a voucher to spend on eBay. The voucher amount will be the difference in price + 5% off the online retail website's price*. Happy shopping!

*Max discount $150, claim limits apply

Which online retail websites does the eBay Best Price Guarantee apply to?
The Best Price Guarantee covers over 120 of Australia’s top retailers. See details of approved online retail websites here.

What does Best Price Guarantee cover
You are covered for the difference between the price you paid on eBay (including shipping costs), and the price of an identical product (including shipping costs) on an approved online retail website + 5% off the online retail website's price. For example, if you purchase a product for $100 on eBay and find it on a online retail website for $90, customer service will issue you a voucher for the difference in price ($10) + 5% of the online retail website's price (5% of $90 is $4.50). So the total voucher value will be $14.50.

Are shipping costs included in the eBay Best Price Guarantee?
Yes. We compare the full transaction cost including shipping on eBay.com.au and the online retail website in order to determine if a Best Price Guarantee is warranted.

How does eBay reimburse me if I find an identical item for less on an approved online retail website?
If eBay’s customer service agent can confirm the difference in prices, eBay will provide you with a voucher. Upon confirmation, you’ll be issued with a voucher that can be used towards your next eBay purchase. Vouchers will expire within 90 days. eBay reserves the right to cancel them in the event that a purchase is cancelled or returned. eBay also reserves the right to deny claims in the event of buyer abuse/fraud and seller abuse/fraud.

Does the guarantee apply to the listing price or the price I actually paid for the Eligible Product?
Our guarantee applies to the price that you actually paid for the Eligible Product (including shipping costs) after applying any valid voucher, coupon, discount code or credit. If, for example, the Eligible Product was listed for $100 on eBay, but you paid $80 after applying a discount code, the price on the Approved Retailer’s website must be less than $80 for you to be eligible for a price difference voucher.

Who does this offer apply to?
This offer only applies to all eBay users who have an Australian shipping address and have purchased a new, fixed price product on eBay.

What happens if an item is returned?
If you decide to return the item, you’ll be refunded the purchase price minus the refunded amount subject to this offer.

Is there a maximum voucher amount that I can claim?
Vouchers are capped at $150 per claim and there is a Claim Limit of 1 per day and 10 per month.

"Claim within 48 hours after purchase" something that I think should be added to the posting :)

    • +2

      Added, thanks mate.

  • Op is there a time to claim the sifference?

    • +1

      Claim within 48hrs of purchase

  • +1

Works well, chat with agent and done in a few minutes. I've had over 2k in vouchers issued

    • -2

The max is $150..do you mean multiple vouchers totalling $2000?

      • +7

I thought that was implied yes

  • +2

    Ebay is stepping up.

  • +3

only had to use this once, and it was a seamless experience.

Between this deal and 28 degrees price protection price protection, gives good peace of mind.

    • +1

Yeah, I love the 28 Degrees Price Protection. Best thing ever. Except now I'm on OzBargain every single day checking prices to see if anything I bought in the last year is somehow cheaper :)

      • +4

You should check out sites like camelcamelcamel.com and pricehipster.com if you aren't already familiar with them. They monitor item prices on various retailers (CamelCamelCamel is for Amazon, Price Hipster does a bunch of other Australian stores) and let you set price drop alerts. It's always great getting a price drop notification email when you have Price Protection.

  • topbargains.com.au is on the list?

  • +3

I claimed about a month ago, the chat agent confirmed that voucher will be sent to be within 48 hours but did not receive the voucher. Contacted ebay again and was told that it is over 48 hours so there is nothing they could do. Has anyone ever had similar experience?

    • +1

You should have received the chat script send to your email. You can use it as evident

      • +2

Yup, I did mention to the second rep that my price match was already approved but the reply was that it is over 48 hours etc etc. Decided to return the item and purchase from the competitor rather than chase them down for it haha

    • Always received the voucher within the chat. I don’t have to wait

      • Could be a one off or the rep was not following the usual procedure then :)

  • +10

Ebay being very smart about this by issuing a voucher and not monetary refund. Therefore the money you spent is gone and now have a incentive to spend more on ebay using voucher and more money.

    • +6

As someone mentioned about it before, you can use this voucher to buy a giftcard from seller paypal digital gifts, including Wish for Woolworth Group stores, eBay, etc.

      • -1

True, but it is against their t&c

  • +1

    This should be in forums.

  • +1

we’ll give you a voucher to spend on eBay

So you don't save the money at all.

    • …+ 5% off the online retail website's price.

  • +2

I don’t know get how they can price match with www.getprice.com.au.

    • +1

because ebay just want an extra excuse to refuse our price match claim

  • +1

So.. I can intentionally choose a more expensive listing on ebay, later contact ebay customer service with the cheapest price from an approved retailer, and if I calculated correctly I'll have a $150 ebay voucher?

  • Our guarantee applies to the price that you actually paid for the Eligible Product (including shipping costs) after applying any valid voucher, coupon, discount code or credit

It won’t work when paying with gift cards

    • +2

so would the best way to utilise this offer is

to buy a $3000 item, find it for $0.01 cheaper or more from that list, get 5% of $3000=$150?

      • I read it as plus %5 of the difference between prices

  • +1

To anyone that didn’t know this had been around for a few years now …
I know people who got a Dyson v11 absolute on eBay for $1050
Myer eBay selling for $799 so they got the diff refunded as price protection

    • maximum is $150

      • Well they got the diff refunded
It’s a buy on eBay and if u find it cheaper ealsewere the diff gets refunded

        • The way I read it, it looks to be clear the total amount is $150 credit (including difference AND 5-% price beat

‘ During the Promotion Period, we will give you an eBay voucher for the difference + 5% of the Approved Retailer’s website price (including shipping costs but excluding GST) under the eBay Best Price Guarantee up to a maximum of $150 when:’

  • I have my eyes peeled for the LG C9 price drop. $3400 after the code. That's my price to beat.

  • Anyone have a specific example and time line they can share
I’m trying to help explain this further to the old man and still a little confused

  • +1

Does this work with any item on ebay (can it be an international item?) or does it have to be from set ebay australia stores?

  • eBay is being very aggressive in order to compete with amazon, most of this is funded by all the fees sellers pay

    • Where do they get the rest of money?

  • mmm,I saw MSY in the list

  • sucks they reduced the companies recently. AUtobarn adn repco no longer on the list

    • -1

These places constantly have 30% off deals anyways.

  • -1

It's a shame it's only 48 hours as you'll run the risk of your item not going on sale?

  • Does it matter if the comparison retailer is discounting with a voucher, or does eBay just compare the actual price inclusive of all discounts?

  • +2

Just tried it on a $3,000 lens and was refused. They said the item description was slightly different on the eBay listing and the approved outside retailer, even though there is only one model number and one mount for this lens. So dodgy.

    • No way? Really

    • geez, that would seriously suck, bigtime

is there a difference in mode numbers? or grey import vs local?

      • Both legit Aussie stock. The first operator said the "description" didn't match, even though the model number and UPC were identical. I've since contacted other customer service operators and have been told (after longs delays consulting with a supervisor) that the voucher will be granted. But I haven't seen it yet. I'll report back as soon as I have an outcome.

        • I mean, no description is going to be identical, its got to be the technical specs that are identical

          Typical ebay

        • I eventually got the $150 voucher after two weeks and multiple requests. It feels like eBay actively discourages buyers from applying.

    • +1

Send the ebay listing and I'll see if I can find it cheaper than $3,000 for you…

  • Doesn't this apply to literally everything on Kogan? Their prices are always higher on eBay when I look.

    • Great call! Never buy anything direct from Kogan, always buy from ebay so you can get 5% of the Kogan price back :)

      • (Only 10x per month across all of ebay though, so use strategically)

  • If an item is out of stock, can I still price match?

  • How do the vouchers work? I just got one for $137, but it's clearly not a gift card number.

So do I need to use it in one transaction only? Or can I keep using the voucher code until it runs out?

The T&C's don't say anything about this.

    • I asked their chat, they said valid for one transaction only.

      • +1

Yep. You're best off purchasing gift cards if you want to stack with coupons and not forfeit remaining voucher credit

  • Does paying with gift cards actually count towards the "no vouchers, etc. etc." clause? I would've thought that this is talking about matching the price after all discounts, etc. are applied, not that it's invalid depending on the payment method used?

TL;DR - has anyone tried claiming this after using eBay gift cards to pay for a purchase?

    • Just asked on chat if a transaction paid via eBay Gift Cards is eligible to claim the Best Price Guarantee, and he said "yes".

Now my other question, which the rep couldn't answer, is whether shipping is still added to the price comparison if you're claiming a product on Amazon and you have Prime membership (i.e. free shipping).

      • Ive managed to match against Amazon prime but I feel it is a bit of a grey area
