Disgusting Racism by Australian Youfoodz CEO and Actress Fiancée

https://youtu.be/wbnegyPAZd0

Who knew the makers of pre-packaged, overpriced crap are actually closet racists.

YouFoodz needs to fire the CEO, even if he is the founder.

Lance Giles, CEO and founder of meal delivery business Youfoodz, and his fiancée Jordana Stott were caught on video mocking Asian people while in Singapore for the Global Restaurant Leadership summit.

The second clip, which is even more expletive-laden, captures a group of Asian guests posing for a picture in a swimming pool, as Stott mockingly comments, “Get it cts, fing get the photo, oh f**ing yeah she-shing.” A male voice, presumably belonging to Giles, can also be heard repeating Stott’s last words “she-shing,” attempting to mimic an Asian language.

@[Deactivated]: Don't quote just the one part of that sentence. I explicitly stated provided they were done accurately.

I'm Chinese and if someone from another ethnic race can do a proper Chinese English speaking accent, then I would be impressed. I've met a few who actually know the differences between a Mandarin speaker and Cantonese speaker and can accurately replicate the subtle differences.

Yes I know that is just my own opinion and there are probably many others who don't share the same view, but since when did sticks and stones become irrelevant? I see a lot of people offended too easily nowadays.

What circumstance would this be an appropriate skill to display? i.e. give me an example of when this would be a normal thing for someone to do?

but since when did sticks and stones become irrelevant?

When racism became a thing with consequences larger than hurt feelings?

Conversations you have with friends. I don't know what your circle of friends are like, but I have a largely diverse group and we get along just fine. As long as we understand there are no malicious intent behind them, I fail to see how making fun of one another is bad. Shaming one group for not being able to participate in something most other ethnic groups already do so willingly is racist in itself. I'm not necessarily stating your point is that we're shaming white people doing this, but that is how this all started. The levels of hypocrisy from minority groups are laughable at times.

When racism became a thing with consequences larger than hurt feelings?

What kind of consequences are there for mocking someone's accent?

Is it hypocrisy when a bunch of second class citizens poke fun at themselves and one another, while excluding the privileged class from doing so? I'm not sure it is. racism is power+prejudice. prejudice without the institutional power and privilege which comes with being white in Australia isn't really racism, it's just a generic form of bigotry. There's a reason why the 'N' word has a lot more power behind it then calling someone a cracker, and that power comes from the power dynamic of racial privilege. This is a fairly well explored concept which comes under the broad umbrella of Critical race theory (CRT).

What kind of consequences are there for mocking someone's accent?

Well there are a lot of consequences of casual racism. The Australian Human Rights Commission has this to say:

“Like other forms of racism, casual racism can marginalise, denigrate or humiliate those who experience it. Harm can occur even if conduct isn’t motivated by hate or malice. Research demonstrates that racism can have adverse effects on people's physical and mental health. It can cause anxiety, depression, low self-esteem and high blood pressure. Racism can also exclude the target from wider society. It sends a message that they aren’t welcome. It reinforces social barriers and attacks the dignity of the victim as an equal member of society. It can undermine civility and social cohesion,”

@[Deactivated]: No, you fail to understand that the prejudice+power that you cling desperately to is a stipulative definition, invented by sociologists for theatrical purposes. That's why even the Australian Human Rights Commission that you quote above does not use that definition. You shouldn't quote the Australian Human Rights Commission if you disagree with their own definition of racism, but that's right, you don't understand the meaning of a stipulative definition.

                    • @[Deactivated]: I see you've moved on to one of my other posts where I'm not even replying to you in an effort to avoid admiting you were wrong about the dictionary definition.

I still remember. As I said, you need to admit you were wrong about the dictionary definition before we can discuss this further.

@[Deactivated]: No, you aren't great at maths and haven't figured out that leaf counts max out at 50 and your obvious widespread errors need correction. It's also telling that you use the Human Rights Commission selectively and quote them at the same time as disagreeing with their definition of racism. You can't make up your mind. You quote the Australian Human Rights Commission about casual racism whilst disagreeing with them about racism itself! You accuse others of whataboutism, but when the dictionary proves you incorrect, what is your response? What about!

You still haven't worked out what a stipulative definition is. You should look it up before using them in ignorance.

                        • @[Deactivated]: Stop trying to deflect. I told you I'd address the other points as soon as you admit you're wrong. My definition isn't stipulative, because it wasn't developed ad hoc in an effort to win an argument, it is an accepted academic explanation of the term.

So keyboard warrior, admit the dictionary definition is an inadequate way if defining academic terms such as assault and therefore a bad faith and poor example for racism and we can move on.

Admit you were wrong, you stubborn little crusader for racism. C'mon, don't be shy. Man up. Admit you were wrong.

                            • @[Deactivated]: See, this is why we can't debate the actual topic at hand. You are pathologically incapable of admitting you're wrong. Your ego is too frail. You'll melt like a delicate snowflake.

You were wrong to obtusely use the dictionary definition to try and refute an academic definition. You know it. I know it. No amount of nitpicking typos will help you wriggle out of it. Admit it. You. were. wrong.

                                • @[Deactivated]: See, you keep misrepresenting my academic definition of racism as a stipulative one in an effort to skirt the issue.

@[Deactivated]: No, I will continue referring to dictionaries and the Human Rights Commission for my defintion. You use an invented definition that even autocompletes with "stipulative" to give you a hint that it's not an actual definition, but a made up definition used to provoke, stir and create drama. Congratulations if you can find people stupid enough to adopt your self-serving concoted redefintion but it won't be the mainstream. I will dismiss your attempt to redefine basic words as leftist definition creep nonsense.

                                                • @[Deactivated]: I don't even know who Nazeem Hussein is, but he certainly didn't invent something which as you know, was coined in the 1970's.

I mean look at the display picture of the OP here. It should be obvious it's asians getting offended by this and whites sympathising.

      • -4

Honestly, I'm almost more upset by the sympathisers than the two wallies who made the video in the first place. They're just a couple of ignorant bogan queenslanders. nothing new about that.

However, there's something really unsettling about a bunch of people who generally don't view themselves as racists denigrating anyone who is actively trying to stop casual racism. There is such a startling lack of empathy that people who have never been affected by racism decide that because it doesn't affect them that anyone who is affected must be weak.

It's like a reflexive dismissal of responsibility; "I thought that video was funny, so that means either: a) I'm racist or b) anyone who is offended just needs to toughen up. Oh, well I can't possibly be racist, so it must be option b."

        • You have to admit Frugal Rock made you look like a right knob in this thread. Especially when you clearly gave up your academic superiority schtick and just started repeating the same response over and over. Little precious. <slow clap>

  • -1

    Eh who cares

    • -1

      People who don't like racism?

  • -2

Go to a typical Aussie or any person and ask them if they know how to make fun of Asians, bet u at least 99% in their minds would have outstanding knowledge of racial slurs,
Go to any Asians and ask them to make fun of whites, they'd hardly have any knowledge of that, cause most don't think of that crap,
racism/jokes towards asians imo occurs statistically the most and unknowingly

Then what do gweilo and nanbanjin mean?

Wow $250 million business, backing funds by China.

Good riddance to Youfoodz and their overpriced sub-400 calorie meals.

Love this. Bring out these closet racists red handed, especially when they are of medium profile person. Cripple their business where it hurts.
    Keep up this thread!

Yes perhaps on a usual day to day racist comment most of this would have zero impact. But since this company is brand name, they deserve every implication that comes from those making racists comments. Love to see this unfold further.

    Poor form Youfoodz

    • Indeed. Obviously the ceo is a immature prick funded by wealthy parents to give him work so he can flaunt his racist ego. Hope he will pay for his immaturity.

In the meantime let's take a break for a short commercial Long, loong man~~~ to cool off some steam.

As someone who has never and will probably never eat Youfoodz or similar products I can safely say I don't give a shit.

    • And as someone who eats it and enjoys it, I second the motion, I don’t give a shit either … we’ve reached peak cancel culture people don’t care anymore

Nobody has explained why they were looking at origami on their phone over dinner?

  • I'd accept it as racism if they were not amongst themselves. They're not publicly shaming these people, get over it…

While we're at it, maybe we should cancel the comedy festivals world wide. /s

There's some valid objections in here, but all of these PC people need to take a chill pill, the world is becoming so uptight.

I'm of Italian heritage, my in-laws are Macedonian, I (most of my generation) can cop WOG on the chin and have a laugh with each other (amongst friends) and can also have a laugh at comedy gigs when they poke fun at some of our ways of life because we can actually associate with it! My father-in-law, although not "old school" or a traditionalist, can't stand the word wog. He's not about to go and protest until the cows come home, life goes on. We're (all cultures) wildly accepted in the community, it's a minority that fall into this racist category you're trying to lump everyone into.

    • +3

I'm pretty anti PC but the video is blatant rascism it is worse because she also sounds like a mass bogan

If what she said was at least humerous you could laugh if off but instead it is just ice junkie level Aussie

To think this behaviour is 'ok' is kind of sad

The term 'wog'was rascism at the time but us wogs embraced it and basically hard work and business ethics has seen us become fairly successful in Australia. To the point we bag Aussies for being bogan f***s and it is better to be a wog then a skip if you ask me- however that took decades that's why the old wogs have the term!

      • Yeh, I see your point, it's a fine line though and all I'm saying is that my definition of racism is more along the lines of oppressing a line of people. It's fair to say that people have the right to be precious about ANYTHING really, but I just feel it gets taken a bit far these days and that's on most topics.

We're fast becoming a "what about me" culture and less about just helping everyone's way of life.

        • +1

100% people are way to soft these days but to upload this on your account when your in big business is share stupidity

  • -5

What a coincidence that the only people who are outraged, are asian.

    • What a coincidence that the people targeted by the racism are the ones getting offended? Really?

    • +2

Are you sure you know what coincidence Means?

  • LMAO certainly wouldn't sub to youfoodz now.

    What a surprise bogan bit*h

  • I'm offended by this post, so I'm going to cancel Ozbargain, cancel the internet and close my eyes for good measure

    • Was that meant to be funny.. HA HA HA..

      • more ha ha funny

    • +1

Close your eyes?? I see what you're doing there RACIST.

      • Ha not even intended, but I see that as reverse racism……

  • easy to see why Australia can only be viewed as a racist country, with racist politicians, pursuing racist policies.

Shame our neighbours aren't all white, and our biggest trading partners are a different colour. Australia is now just a name on a map without any of its identity. Good job

  • +6

Wow. So many sympathisers our there.
    - Whether it’s racism or not is moot - it is not OK to mock or make fun of people. Especially if you are a CEO of a company. And no it doesn’t matter how much tax you do or do not pay. It’s still wrong.
    - Two wrongs don’t make a right. Examples of other people being racist doesn’t make racism OK. Does the existence of murderers make it OK to murder people as well? How about if they murdered people of the same race / gender?
    - Making fun of other people behind their back doesn’t make it OK. Feel free to make fun of yourself though.
    - Where comedy is concerned that is laughing with someone, not at someone’s expense. It is possible to get it wrong:
    https://www.theage.com.au/entertainment/art-and-design/melbo…
Note the apology from the comedian - yes you can cause offence to people without knowing it. Yes you can also apologise for it. Difficult if you are not actually sorry, I guess.
    - Just because it doesn’t offend you or a group of the community doesn’t mean it doesn’t offend other people. Like showing porn at work. You and your mates might not get offended, but some people will be offended, and that will get you fired.

    • Feel free to make fun of yourself though.

      will kms

  • What would also have been interesting was to see was who (CEOs, celebrities, VIPs etc etc) liked/commented on those posts before it was taken down…

  • Deactivated my account over their chat.

Ah come on. Who cares. This heroism of calling out racism is retarded, and I say that as a guy from a minority ethnic group who grew up in the country. I almost feel like defending racists these days because the social justice crowd are so completely insufferable.

    • how dare you say it's retarded. that's offensive.

  • +5

    LOL @ cancel culture.

In before " thoughts and prayers "

Go make a tweet about it

mocking an accent is hardly " disgusting racism "

Everything is " literally Hitler " nowadays.

You know how many asians say " Gday " or " how ya goin " in an Aussie accent.

It's only racist if your white.

in b4 this majority asian site calls me racist.

The fact this guy is a CEO and got " caught " is just dumb.
