Pretty impressive deal! Grabbed one added a $4 and 2 $1 USB C cables to get the cost up

    • Does it work well and is it safe/easy to use? I'm looking to buy one for my wife!

Technically it is one of the best – great quality, fast and powerful, with plenty of accessories. But your personal experience depends on your skin and hair tones, it may not work for some people. In the other hand, Philips has 90 days money back for the device – if it doesn't work for you, they'll refund money. About the safety… who knows, they claim many years of research and testing (more than 10, less than 20), but I believe it is not enough to talk about side-effects.

They are very skin and hair colour dependant. It works by black pigment getting hot, same as black vs white car under sun. You need pale skin and dark hair.

They don't work as well as real salon laser.
If just for women's underarm and brazilian then just go to a real place since they have frequent discounts on that around $30 (they make money on the upsell of cream and other laser treatments), it needs 10+ sessions so costs the same as buying the device but will be far more effective at actually achieving kills.

With the refund policy there isn't too much risk of it doesn't work. But if hair is blond/red or dark skin then don't bother.

        • Any reason why this doesn't work as well? Do they use a different technology, different heat temp, setting..? I would say I'm lightly tanned but hair is dark brown. Do you reckon that would work? Or would I just be getting burnt?

          • @Bargainbeth: You can check Philips website, they have tables of suitable skin/hair tones

@Cupa Bundy Drinker: Thanks, and wow, you can pretty much have brown skin and it would be fine to use. I guess, just less efficacy.

          • +1

@Bargainbeth: Pro laser shoots a jet of freeze spray before each pulse, so skin is cold, can use higher power without burning skin, more power more hair root burning.

Also has a narrower spectrum so more of the good hair burning heat, less skin burning heat. Again more killing power.

Also a home machine can't legally provide the same power settings as a pro machine. Those machines can literally give third degree burns so have to be used with training.

This home machine shouldnt burn you (and you can sue Phillips if it does, also why it's weaker than pro settings) because it has an automatic skin tester. The power throttles back but that also means it does less killing.

$5 underarms sales are common, so I recommend trying at least one salon session to understand the difference.

            • @joelmuzz: Hmm i haven't experienced laser recently but a couple of years ago, I don't think they used freeze spray. They did apply a gel to "ease the burn" before shooting the laser. It seems like about 10 sessions is needed with salon.

I called the shaver shop and they said that this device is 6.5 joules, their advanced model ($250 after cashback) is 5 joules. And the guy in the store said he thinks salons use roughly 20 joules of power with their lasers.

But he followed up by saying that this machine, because of its lower joules, can be used every week, rather than every 5 weeks like the salon. Theoretically reaching the same efficacy.

Also the "prestige" model is only higher by 1.5 joules, which is said to reduce hair more, but I'm not sure if that doesn't just mean, "in less time" than the "advanced" model. I'm not concerned about how many sessions are required, just how much hair is reduced, and how it affects grow back.

    • Can you send the link. Hard to find an add on. :)

Can I use this to be a skinhead?

  • This, or a vasectomy? Which would be more cost-effective?

    • +2

You have to shave the hair off for a vasectomy, so might as well have both.

anyone else thought it some airpods knockoff?

      • Swiggity Swooty. He comin' for that booty

        • It says it shouldn't be used there.

would this be painful on my nutsack?

    asking for a friend me

    • Yes, but less than waxing.
Slap your wang with a boiling hot teaspoon, that's about it.

  • Regarding their $100 cashback promotion, do they consider this purchase on eBay as Shaver Shop's purchase?

    • +1

Yes, I confirmed it with Philips.

      • Also their promotion T&Cs stated "Cash Back Offer is only open to individuals who are Australian residents 18 years and above". I'm an oversea student, am I eligible to the promotion?

        • +1

If you're currently in Australia and have a postal address and bank account, you should be fine - it is the only personal details they asked in the cashback application. But you always can confirm it with Philips.

    • +1

BTW, Shaver Shop states it in the listing.

  • Ordered it yesterday morning and arrived this morning. Fantastically quick shipping.

  • +2

OK sold, this better make me taller and better looking - my new years resolution is always to be taller and better looking. This year for sure.

PS anyone in Sydney - you do my back I'll do yours? Lol, semi-srs.

  • Hypothetically, If I bought one of these a few weeks ago (before the cashback started), could I return that one and buy a new one, in order to make use of the cashback?

  • To those who bought this, did you get an invoice in the email? Or does shavershop send you one with the product? Just need to know to claim the cashback.

  • +1

    $440 now with PINCH11 code

  • +1

Cashback claim has been rejected because we don't get an actual invoice :(.

    • Did you email shaver shop and ask for a tax invoice?

    • They were unable to process mine as well, I resent them photos of the receipt.

      • Ouch 😔
So they ended up approving it?

        • Not yet, it happened an hour ago, just confirmed that attached it to the claim.

        • Just received a confirmation - the cashback has been approved.

    • +1

Hey guys, you can message Shaver Shop for a copy of the invoice.

I got sent one straight away via eBay messages.

If you haven't been rejected yet you can email the email (I think it was cashback@) and update your claim on the website.

  • What a hassle this has been trying to get the cashback, the receipt isn't valid as it didn't state how I paid

    • I guess they (philips) had problems with their IT system and just lost some attachments.

    • Really? My cashback went in today, no problems what so ever. Just gave them the eBay invoice.

      • I've sent in my paypal transaction that wasn't valid it needed to be a receipt from shaver shop, so I requested a receipt like the others in the thread and was told it wasn't valid because it didn't state how I paid.
I resent the paypal transaction and Shaver Shop receipt again, telling them I don't know what else they are after.
They responded telling me thanks and that its been added to my claim to be assessed.
