At $269 Delivered I thought these are a genuine up-market alternative to the Edifier’s. $449-$499 everywhere else.
The DS-1’s support Apt-X codec / Auto-Standby (after 20 mins of inactivity) & NFC (Android / Windows phone only), features which the Edifiers are lacking.
The power output may seem low, but the overall signal-to-noise ratio is similar to the Edifier R1700bt (80dBA vs 85dBA), enough for moderate volume listening or on desk use.
This whathifi review compares them to Edifier:
”These DS-1s have a mature presentation that gives them the upper hand against budget rivals such as the Sond Audio Actives and Edifier R1700BTs.”
Note: These are slightly flawed in their design. Lack of a remote control, speaker grills and tone controls compared to the Edifier R1700bt. The speaker-volume control is on the back, so I guess Wharfedale expects people to use Bluetooth only (and control the volume with your phone / voice control with Google Home) or plug Amazon Echo into the 3.5mm (and control volume + content with your voice).
Also apparently when using wired with 3.5mm Aux connection, the source volume must be at a certain level (higher than), otherwise the Auto-Standby will turn the speakers off.
