Samsung 82" RU8000 4K TV - $2796 + Delivery (Free C&C) @ The Good Guys eBay

920
P20GG

Despite what my wife might say to make me feel better, bigger IS better!

Good price for this mid-range LED TV. Price is Click and Collect, however delivery seems to be about $40 for me. Probably worth it considering the size of the TV. Won't fit it in the back of your Yaris, unfortunately.

  • Mmmm have been hanging out for this model a while. Anyone think this will get closer to 2.5k for black friday?

    • +1

Buy this TV and get their 3 year concierge service for $329 (come with many other perks such as insurance etc..) and they'll price match by 120% of difference if you find anything better in next 30 days.. Catch is you can only claim it once though. So you can still pull the plug if you feel like it.

      • +1

You don't need the concierge service for them to refund the diff after the sale, did it recently on a TV. But may I add that 120% is thru head office, and 100% is in store straight away.

        • I thought i read that this feature is now part of the concierge. May have heard wrong though.

  • +1

Thx OP. Usually I would do C&C to save some coins but for this as you said $40 is pretty much worth it considering the considerable size of the TV. It is very likely not to fit in my car lol.

    • +3

Besides, you may not be able to safely transport it even if it fits in the car (i.e. shoved in the rear footwell). I'd pay the $40 if they'll deliver it for that price like you said. :-)

  • I'm in love

  • +3

If only I could go back in time 10 years ago and not spend $3000 on a 46" 1080p and use it on this instead

    • +6

Yeah, but you'd also have gone without a TV for 10 years in that case.

    • +2

I remember in 2009 my father-in-law got a 40" Sony LCD for $5000 + a blu-ray player which was the size of a VCR lol.

      • +2

he could sell it now for $30

    • Or back 17 years, and not spending $10,000 on a 40 inch Fujitsu plasma 480P TV.

  • do I need an 82 inch TV? hmmmm….

    • +7

you bet your @ss you need one

  • +4

Good price, so tempted, but my wall is too small…. I can barely fit 65".
Time to buy new house :)

    • now we just need houses for sale on ozbargain :)

  • +3

    So… tempting………………… send halp

  • I’m sad that I didn’t hold out for this and bought the 75” last year lol.

  • In basic terms which of the Hisense models does this align with? 6/7/8?

    • +1

In between 6 and 7 I'd say. This Samsung doesn't have local dimming, where as the Hisense 7 series does. The contrast is still fairly good on this unit, despite not having local dimming (according to rtings). I personally would probably wait for another deal on the Hisense 85R7 (I think it was $2700 recently). The 85" is the only R7 Hisense which has full array back-lighting, where as the smaller R7s have edge lit. Also, 3" larger.

      • That's really interesting about the 85" R7 Hisense and changes my equation when looking at TVs. I was originally looking at the 75" R8 Hisense which has quantum LED but is still edge-lit (albeit with this "Elite backlight" technology). Thanks for the info!

        • Yeah, I originally thought the r8 would be the way to go, but it's interesting that this new 85" version is backlit. Might make the local dimming work more efficiently.

      • Interesting info. So does the 85R7 have the same features as the 75R7 apart from the back-lighting? So less features than the 75R8?

        • I believe so. It's a bit weird that two size variants of the same series have different lighting. I have seen this before though. Is 85" just too large to rely on edge lighting maybe?

cant compare to a hisense. thats like comparing a datsun to a porsche

      • Loved my old Datto 180B.

  • 85 inches sounds better, there was a deal recently on a 4k sony 85 i think it was like similar price

  • I remember these things costed a fortune before

  • +1

I have the 65, don't buy it thinking the Alexa/Google Assistant functionality is particularly useful. You can pretty much turn the tv off and change the volume. Everything else (including turning the tv on) doesn't really work. Great TV for the money otherwise

Am I the only person who gets amused by "Despite what my wife might say to make me feel better, bigger IS better!"?

  • Bought one of these ages ago, for not much more than this. We absolutely love it.

  • -5

i wouldnt touch this. its not OLED.

    • Do you realise the price of a 82" OLED? If you can find me one sub $3k I'll buy now.

  • +2

    RU4K day

  • please help me decide

    QA75Q60RAWXXY 75" Q60 $2316
    KD75X8000G 75" X8000G $1756

worth the extra 560 odd for QLED??

  • This or a projector???? opinions?

  • really struggling on deciding between this model and the higher csot sony 85" " good guys offer. Apart from screen size I can see Samsung allowes HDD Recording and freeview. Doesnt look like sony has these. Cant tell many other differences though

    • I was in the same situation and ended up buying the 85" Sony as I find the extra $440 is worth for the bigger size.

      • The upscaling on the Sony is impressive!, ugly stand though.

  • Any idea how this TV is for gaming? Currently have a Panosonic OLED and can't decide if this is worth getting for the living room and moving the OLED to the bedroom.
