Is this better than the Vodafone TV, which is cheaper and comes with a 2 year warranty?

I have both and they are both pretty good.

      VTV advantages:
      1) has ethernet port so if you are using it where wifi signal is weak, this is a big plus.
      2) it has an inbuilt digital TV tuner, so if you are using it for a projector set-up, it saves you buying an extra TV tuner.

      MiBox advantages:
      1) seems to receive more updates than VTV
      2) has native support for Kayo Sport app, so has full features like multi-window (VTV can only be used to watch Kayo via Kodi app, which works but is a bit clunky)
      3) this is subjective, but to my eyes, MiBox has a cleaner looking interface

Don't need a TV tuner anymore for these boxes. You can pull Australian free TV into the live TV app on Android TV and get all the normal channels without a tv tuner using a m3u playlist

Also, better to get a NVIDIA shield. I have a Mibox and shield, and the NVIDIA is better in every way. A new model has just been released in US and should be released here soon, with really good 4k upscaling abilities, full dolby atmos and vision support etc.

I also have a Mibox and a Shield as well, but it's not really a fair comparison.

One is cheap and cheerful and the other is the best android box on the market right now… and is subsequently 2-3 times the price.

@KRM123 Your suggestion is fine if you have unlimited internet, but if you don't, then a digital TV tuner is still very handy for watching free to air TV without hogging a heap of data.

        • Hi, Which Live TV is it you taking about?
          Thanks,

          • @Boertjie: I'd love to hear more about this live streaming too…. I'm still using Windows media centre which is now pretty much dead (and Microsoft is killing off the guide in January) so I'm trying to find something else to replace it with :)

        • I'm using m3u8 feed through next pvr via Kodi, but am trying to find m3u feed so i can set up live TV through Plex and other apps. Can you share the streams with us please?

Not to watch the football. That's not available via the digital stream.

@jv: I watched the socceroos a couple weeks ago on ABC using it.

            • @KRM123: Soccer has less commercial value in Australia, thus there are no special streaming rights like there are with football.

              • -1

@jv: Do you mean football? It's called football….

                  enough said…

                  • @jv: Hey jv, even Foxtel/Kayo now correctly calls soccer by it's correct name "football". The USA is pretty much the only country left that calls it soccer.

                      • @jv: Socceroos is a colloquial name for the national team that stems from an era where the term soccer was widely used in Australia. The sport itself is correctly called football, because you know, it is played with the feet. Whatever you want to call it, it's easily the biggest sport in the world by participation, TV rights, dollar turnover, and any other measure.

LOL… I guess you didn't click on the link.

  • Can I install Youku and PPTV on this?

    • yes

      • You download them from Google Play store?

  • For people with this mi box s, how does it differ from the previous model?

The previous model is still going strong (but doesnt come back from sleep, needs to unplug/replug).

    • Just for that reason, I won't buy anymore mi box again. Now, I am settled with Nvidia Shield.

    • @ damonop Try hitting the up button after the power button to wake it, works for me.

  • What are people watching to justify any of these boxes?

    • Netflix in 4k?

  • DHGate? They are scammers. Just check the "return policy" (only partial refund in case of broken item) and the payment options (PayPal is not supported).

  • I got one of this yesterday afternoon from DHGate (first time buyer) and 24 hours later I haven't received any order confirmation email. The money was charged to my bank account so the order went through. I still have opened the DHGate page on my browser with the order number saying purchase was successful, but still waiting for a confirmation email. As this is my first time buying from these people, is the a reliable business? Anyone has experienced the same?
