Pay Credit Card Bill with Another Credit Card

So I got that Coles Mastercard to get the Flybuys points. I’m about To pay out my Amex, but never thought of paying the Amex “bill” via the Coles MasterCard.

Would this be treated as a regular bill payment /purchase or be treated as a cash advance ?

Pretty sure they go through as cash advances incurring even more interest and fees.

    • Yeah, I've tried looking up info (not in either cards T&Cs) and it says every card varies.

  • You probably can't anyway. Check what forms of payment the Amex accepts. eg It might accept BPAY, but when you go try, the BPAY biller code will be blocked.

The Coles MC does have a Bpay feature in the app.

Yeah, but go and try and pay the Amex with it, it won't let you. If it happens to let you proceed, just cancel before you submit. Least you will know.

Alternatively, look it up here and see

        http://www.bpay.com.au/Personal/Find-Biller-Codes-or-Financi…

        Will likely say

        This Biller accepts

        Cheque, Savings or Debit Card

          You are correct.

Ah well. Worth the question I guess. Would've been useful information for most if you could.
*I'm looking at you, who ever negged my previous comment :P

          • @Danstar: Well, like RM said below it would be a massive loophole…you aren't the first person to think about it, or the last.

Also get people asking if they can buy a new car on credit card for points…

Better off doing a balance transfer

    • I have the cash to pay it off, but just thought to do it to get the minimum spend on the Coles card to get the points.

      • buy giftcards

You cannot pay a CC with another CC (unless there is a Balance Transfer option/offer).

Else no one will ever end up paying the bank any amount owing using the interest free period option. If that worked, you could pay the Amex with Coles MC and next statement pay the Coles MC using Amex - and keep doing it for eternity.

    • Until you reach you credit limit.

You can do it via https://www.easybillpay.com.au/ but there is a fee of 1.3%. Previously no fee for the first $1000 each month but sadly ended this month.

    • it is just an automated bill paying service, why is it even worth paying a fee for that.

      • earn credit card points for paying bills which don't normally earn points like the ATO. earn credit card points for bills which only accept EFT

    • Yep, it happened. I wonder if you BPay to your EBP account, do you still get charged 1.3%? EBP biller code takes credit cards on BPay.

As someone mentioned before, see here

    https://www.bpay.com.au/Personal/Find-Biller-Codes-or-Financ…

If the BPay biller does not include credit cards, you get cash advance for sure, eg. Biller Code 5082 (AmEx). You'd better BPay from you bank account.

EASY BILL PAY Biller Code 234336, it seems OK to use credit card BPay.

  • Yeah not going to happen. The muppets out there would be even more in debt if they allowed the merry go round.
