    I would prefer coupon

  • -5

Darn… Just spent over $700, like two hours ago.

    • +7

Always someone complaining about missing out

      XD

      • -3

        Always someone being a wiseguy.

      • +5

Yes, because this is an open public forum. People are free to share their good as well as bad experiences. I don't really understand the point of your comment @firstinline ? And don't understand why people negging my comment. Since when sharing a bad experience is considered bad on ozbargain ?

      • I'd be kicking myself too if that had been me!

    • +9

      Without coupon?

    • Same 😤

  • For patpat ineligible items

  • +27

10%-20% for instant upfront discount > 5% for delayed 30+ days cashback

just saying.. choose wisely for some products

    • They could just give us 15% off sitewide, they done before

  • +107

I revoked my upvote after I read the use of Coupon / Voucher Codes are not eligible
What's the point of 5% if I am not able to use 20% off / 15% off codes?
Is there anyone here who buy without a discount code?

    • +1

      Exactly this

    • Auctions would do the trick

    • +11

Current Ebay codes are for stores and regular sellers. I do buy without codes from small private sellers so I guess this is better than nothing (no site wide coupons for a while now)…

    • Iphones?

    • +1

Every now and then but usually it’s for cheap items like a Lightning cable, a SATA cable, etc. I suppose this means shop back is really your discount if last resort.

    • Been waiting for coupons applicable on Ebay Officeworks. Need to get a new mfc to replace on that died 2 mo ago :/

    • Thanks just woke up no purchase from me too .

      Basically pure crap .

Revoked would neg if I could !

    • I often buy on eBay with no coupons, because usually I can't find any discounts on whatever I'm trying to buy. There was a time, maybe a year ago, when I'd always have a coupon to use with my eBay purchases, but that's not the case any more. So I'm happy with 5% cashback!

  • +14

Good for stores that normally fall into the exclusions of ebay sitewide coupons, like Bunnings / Officeworks / Target

eBay is tightening their belts lately, first ebay UK plugging the giftcard loophole, now eBay Au disabling cashbacks when coupon codes are used.

    • I wouldn't be so sure that loophole is plugged, as there have been codes on eBay UK that exclude gift cards and target categories.

  • Does the exclusion of cash back apply when we use gift cards?

    • +1

You can still earn cashback even if you pay for your order using gift cards. However, the use of any coupon codes towards your order will void your cashback, regardless of payment method.

      • +6

Also, because I just need the clarification,
Going forward, no cash back is available with any coupon codes in the future?

        • -1

          Correct

          • +20

            @gotyourback: shame on ebay

            • +1

@AsukaST: Void giftcard payment is just a matter of time.

          • +1

@gotyourback: Rep, OP links to buying gift cards, is this eligible for cashback?

            • -1

@chyawala: Only gift card purchases via AusPost (1.5% cashback at the moment).

              • +2

@gotyourback: I won't be using the shopback apps in the future since coupon codes provide much better discounts than 1% cashback or 5% cashback.

      • You might want to clarify this in your post above because coupon codes and gift cards are entered in the same spot when buying on eBay.

  • -2

Dang it, I just spent $500 or so. I could've got my $5 cashback.

What's this 5% cashback to soften the blow of not being able to use any discounts with it?
I would rather have eBay gift cards + a discount code especially when this reverts back to 1%.

    • +19

for a penny pincher your not great at maths, 5% of 500 is 25.

      (i didnt neg u)

      • +5

LOL! Correct someone on their maths, you get up votes. Correct someone on their english, you get negs :)

I wonder what happens if you correct someone on a matter of geography?

        • +5

Because maths is universal and consistent.
Language is forever evolving, in constant flux and very subjective.

And I passed maths at school, but not English ;-)

          • @[Deactivated]: Any consistent formal system within which a certain amount of elementary arithmetic can be carried out is incomplete — Gödel's first incompleteness theorem

Any system of mathematics built on any set of axioms (this includes all common systems of arithmetic) cannot be both "universal" (able to decide all statements as true or false) or consistent (does not contradict itself).

      • +1

Hahaha nah, what I meant was the 1% just before as I used a code.
It would've actually been better than the 5% cashback with no code.

I can understand how it was interpreted that way though 😂

  • +2

Ebay is so hungry for money

    • +30

Something to do with it being a for-profit company.

    • -1

ah really? I thought it was a non-profit company..

  • +2

I'm waiting for 15% sitewide. Praise be unto the bargain gods if it's 20%.

    Pros: save money

Cons: do not have stuff now.

    • +9

I don't think higher than 5% site wide will ever happy again thanks to Amazon dropping the ball…

      • +1

        *happen lol

  • I’m waiting for a bonus $ deal per amount spent. Really hope to see one soon as I have some cash to spend.

  • I was excited and ready to spend about 700 tomorrow on a new CPU then I clicked the deal and saw your little "note"

  • How long will this last for? Rep?

    • It's today only.

  • Does the cash back work if buying ebay gift cards?

    • I want to know this too. Buy gift cards with cash back and then stack with other coupons ?

      • You can just get gift cards @ the post office for 5% cashback. Unless the deal is unavailable now…

    • Cashback Not Eligible for Gift card purchases, Charity and non-profit items, eBay Plus membership, Cars, Bikes, Boats , Coins, Real Estate, Services, Tickets, Travel

  • +2

woohoo! bought last night, 1% win!

  • +8

“A maximum of $50 cashback may be earned on any single purchase.” Worth noting.

  • +10

Can we just have it on the browser website instead of the damn app? Does it make a difference to ShopBack if it's the app or the website?

    • I’m guessing ShopBack and eBay wants to train us to be impulsive buyers and willing to pay 1% (5%) for it.

      • +6

Does the app make us impulsive?

I never buy things through apps - I can't research the items properly, can't use multiple tabs…it's just a shocking experience compared to a browser.

I am, admittedly, quite a cautious buyer, so the only way I'd do this is probably sorting it out in my browser, maybe saving to watched items and then going to the app…yeah I'm not doing that. My spending is way down on eBay since them moving cashback to app-only which I suppose isn't the worst thing in the world…

        • -1

I know Bud its so hard to line items up with browser then go to app to kill the deal !

          • +2

@profar: Time-consuming and needlessly overcomplicated enough to make me not bother.

Never said it was difficult, but excellent strawman!

Why people defend corporations against individual consumers is a very odd trend I'm sure the corporations have paid a lot of money into manipulating…EG: McDonalds with the woman who burned her skin to the bone with their coffee. Public reaction: "herrrrp coffee hot herrrrrrrp!"

  • +3

So basically it's a 5% sitewide* discount. Good for buying stuff that never have a discount, or is one with a threshold discount.

I had items sitting in my cart from last night. I guess I ain't gonna ever see that 41c.

  • any deals on Xiaomi robot vacuum?

Make it @# ing USELESS .

First time Shopback have implemented this .

    BIG NEGATIVE

    • if the codes have been maxed out / not eligible to be used any way. The 5% cash back isn't too bad.

      • I mean, compared to 20% it’s pretty bad.

    • Use the coupons then, and sacrifice the 1% cashback that we were getting for a short period anyway.

    • +1

no, this is great for people like me who just want small items and most importantly aren't 'eligible'

    • and dont forget, PDELLCP for 20% off DELL

  • +2

I'm actually reverting to Qantas Shopping to get 1 Qantas Pt per dollar

    • I use to do that before this change going back there again .

    • +2

Qantas Shopping has the same T&C though, no points if coupon/voucher used.

  • +3

Why would anyone buy anything from EBay without a code? It’s a rip off!

    • +7

Private seller's items can be cheap. They're often not eligible for the coupons either.

    • +2

Depends how you use eBay, I guess.

I mostly buy brand new stuff from e-tailers, but occasionally I buy used items from private sellers and discount codes rarely apply. Getting an automatic 5% discount on used items is a nice perk.

Also, I've found that prices on eBay are generally quite competitive with other online sources, if you sort by cheapest. There are profiteering outliers, of course - but in general, eBay is a pretty good benchmark.

      • Very rarely I buy anything on Ebay without codes . This code beats one a 3 % making it fairly useless lol .

BTW if it work with codes that 5% on stacking would have been enough for me to go on a buying spree .

  • That's pretty much useless, they didn't have this restriction last time when they have 10% cashback.

  • Does anyone know if eBay will ever do 10% off sitewide again? - they seem to be tightening up control of their payment/cashback features and presumably didn't realise how much people have been saving

    • +3

I loved their 10-15% sitewide. Even 5% was awesome if there wasn't anything. Now they chuck in "eligible items" which is a load of bullshit. I reckon it's due to their plus membership program.

  • +1

Bought an Apple Watch for $779 using Shopback+eBay mobile apps last night, how long does cashback typically take to confirm?

    • I used PINS10 10% off coupon as well so it might not work :/

      • +1

The statement about coupon/cashback being invalid states that the policy began on Oct 28, so if you purchased before the 28th you should be able to claim

    • 2 days from what I read.

  • +6

Why are people upvoting this… are they not reading the terms and conditions?

    • I think they are the people that can't find 5 , 6 figures value in Ebay Plus and Prime .

      Its a lot unfortunately :)

      • No, they're the people who can't find 10%/15%/20% codes, or read the T&Cs.

      • I keep items in my ebay watchlist and wait
      • When one of these cashbacks comes up I buy
      • I get it 5% cheaper than I would have a week ago, due to the cashback

I had to buy a replacement battery for my wifi modem. So unless I've missed something, I just got 5% off!?

      • +1

Given there are rolling 5% discounts on eBay, there is a very narrow use case for this deal.

The reason this is getting mass upvoted is because people aren't noticing that they can't stack this with discounts.

  • +6

So much rage, but I'm buying $500 worth of clothing from a random seller who will never be part of elegible stores as they're random people, so this is great for me… Or am I missing something?

    • No, this is great for you.
I think people are just disappointed because of past expectations and the change in terms and conditions.

This deal is still great for buyers who aren't recipients of discount codes and sales normally.
Obvious previous deals have been better,
      IE.
1.The cash back after hitting payment quotas eg $60 back for $500+ spent
      2. The 10% sitewide cash back applicable with discount codes.

I think the new norm of "not applicable with discount codes" have spurred some anger.

I for one, am happy because I have a wishlist with sellers who don't participate in discount codes.

EDIT: But i wish it was 10% forsure though

  • they should offer higher shopback rate for ebay plus members. like 5% all year around and 1% for non ebay plus members. Then i may consider getting ebay plus

  • -1

can someone explain in the OP it says why wait for aus post to send them out, implying that this works with gift cards.

    But shop back says…
"Cashback Not Eligible for Gift card purchases, Charity and non-profit items, eBay Plus membership, Cars, Bikes, Boats , Coins, Real Estate, Services, Tickets, Travel"

    • -1

OP means there was a deal before with Aus post selling eBay gift cards at 5% (expired) but instead of waiting eBay doing 5% cash back atm

      • -1

        which excludes gift cards..

        • You can use eBay gift cards to buy and you can get 5% cash back

  • Just received a notification from the Shopback all which says that this ends at 11:59pm tonight.

  • +1

My cashback has tracked but its incorrect. I paid $45 + $8.55 postage but email says cashnack amount is $0.55. It should be $45 * 5% = $2.25?

Edit: I'm stupid, that was a tracking notification for an item I bought 2 days ago.

  • +5

Look, it's great that cashback is back, but without stackable discount codes, or even being able to use gift cards, this isn't really amazing. Especially considering this is 5% not including the tax. So a 5% off ebay code (which realistically is constantly run) is better than this.

  • +1

    what? cant use discount code?
so if i want to buy something from myers as per https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/491270 i cant enter PMYE20 during checkout??? wth…

  • Anyone had theirs tracked yet?
