  • Mine never activated properly so gave up.
Ah well you win some and you lose some.

    • Hi dasher, what model of phone do you have, get in touch and we'll sort it for you!

      • Thanks for the reach out.
I threw out the SIM card as it wasn't working so I don't think you can help me.
        Haha to me.

        • Hi dasher,

I don't actually blame you given how sh*t most telco's customer service teams are! Flexiroam are pretty good, but I'm half useful at getting you up and running (and hopefully more responsive).

If you are a glutton for punishment, contact me with your order number, and we'll try again!!

          Cheers,

          James

I had my three purchased sims from last offer refund processed (email advice). Just waiting for the amounts to show up in my credit card account. Thanks to James.

      • Cheers Gleung!

PayPal seem to refund instantly, however credit cards take a couple of days. Maybe you'll get a few cents on th exchange rate! ;)

        • Hello James. I was composing an update but you beat me to that. Just checked and confirmed that refund on all three "starter pack" received. Thank you again. However, I lost a few cents on exchange so may have to spend more via ozbargain to recoup the loss…

  • Is data counted for every KB, or does it round up?

    • Hi music,

That's a great question! Typically one I don't have to answer, as people tend to buy much larger bundles these days!

I can confirm measured by the KB

(EDIT: However the in App meter will show GB & MB)

      Cheers,

      James

  • Would this work with Pixel 3/3a which also has eSIM?

    • Hi Nick,

Unfortunately NO. For some weird reason only Aussie 3's aren't supported & ALL 3a's (worldwide) aren't either.

Our deal must be a good reason to go and see our mates at JB Hi Fi: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/491146

I'm tempted to return to the dark side…

      almost.

      Cheers,

      James

      • Damn I had no idea, just picked up a Pixel 3 literally today.

    • I've got an Australian 3a and it works fine. It's just the Australian 3's which don't work.

The new 4's will work fine.

  • Pixel 2 XL has an eSIM as well I believe, can you confirm if it will work on the phone?

    • Hi chewkl,

I don't specifically no that it isn't supported, but I'm going to say a big fat NO, as I don't want to be chased down the street with a Pixel stick.

Get the 4, you know you want to..

      Cheers,

      James

    • (Former pixel2 user here) you need to root your phone to get 3rd party esim. Otherwise it only works for google fi.

    • The Original Pixel, Pixel 2 and Pixel 3 don't work.

The Pixel 3a and the new Pixel 4 are the only Australian models that will work.

  • Really interesting service, would have loved this a month ago.

I am curious for your China region plan, does it bypass the Great Firewall (so access to Google, Facebook etc.)?

I know generally if you are on 'roaming' in China with foreign sim, the filter is bypassed.

      Hi tiger,

Good question, and YES it does! I understand that most Travel SIMs do, also.

(EDIT: I'd add that unlike other Travel SIMs, ours last forever, so don't view it as missed opportunity. I'm thinking a new beginning!)

      Cheers,

      James

      • You should probably put it on your site, it's an important feature for those in the know ;)

Until the MIB rock up on my doorstep!

I saw that 4 corners report, scary stuff!

          • @Flexiroam: While you're here, a harder question.

Does "global" have coverage on cruise ships?

Bonus points, how about on aircraft fitted with roaming services(Aeromobile, SITAONAIR) :P

Now, if only I had an eSim device, maybe I can borrow one (I assume you can migrate the service?)…

            • +1

              @Tigerhacker: Hi tiger,

On cruise ships, I'm pretty sure you are universally "cooked".

To your 2nd point, Flexiroam have struck an agreement with Scoot for inflight WiFi access, with more COMING SOON

If like me you are a peasant with a non-eSIM phone, check our the next best thing the SIM microchip.

We have some good deals here: https://callcloud.com.au/products/flexishare-starter-kit

Also, stay tuned I'm cooking up a nice cheap data deal for Halloween

              Cheers,

              James

            • +1

@Tigerhacker: No coverage on Aeromobile or OnAir (or any of the cruise ships).

The Scoot Wifi access (which only works on Scoot 787's) is a joke but you get 10MB? free for the first use then can "exchange" other data for inflight wifi however it works out cheaper to just buy packs from Scoot so I've never done this. I've got a Boingo login thanks to 28 Degrees mastercard which meant last scoot flight I went through around 1GB of data (at no cost to me) and this works on any Panasonic T-Mobile based systems.

              • @henrus: Thanks for the good info, Cruise Ships was the biggest interest, I can live for a few hours without internet on a plane.

Cruise Ships charge excessively for what they offer. Slow internet when they don't have constraints like speed and weight like in a plane.

I was hoping I just found the holy grail of travel sims :)

                • +1

@Tigerhacker: I don't think there is a single travel sim that offers coverage on cruise ships and if you're looking for data then forget it.

Because it's a satellite based system the operators of the onboard GSM networks charge a premium to the carriers roaming onto their networks.

Some of the better value sims for cruise ship services are actually Australian prepaid sims… and there are a few tricks to get cheaper calls.

Optus prepaid roaming charges $4 per minute to make/receive calls, $1 per SMS and $2 per MB of data.
Telstra prepaid roaming charges $5 per minute to make/receive calls, $0.65 per SMS and $3 per MB of data.

You can often buy starter packs are a half price (or more) discount which would provide $40 credit for only $20.

and no I'm not even joking when I say they're some of the best value as many prepaid sims as providers in other countries often charge $10 per minute, $1-2 per SMS and $20 per MB of data.

Also worthy of a mention is 2 degrees a New Zealand based carrier. If you can get your hands on a prepaid sim (they apparently deliver to Australia or otherwise through a reseller) then they allow receiving of calls whilst roaming on cruise ships and airplanes for only NZ$1 per minute.

The person making the call will have to have a plan which allows for included calls to NZ mobile numbers but on the boat it would be $1 per minute for you to receive the call.

  • Hi OP I am already using your microchip and now got the pixel 4 so would like to switchover to eSIM. Is it possible to get this deal and migrate all my plans across?

    • Hi Hayato,

Yes it is! There is a replace SIM process within the App, or of course you could just setup a new account and then Flexishare the data across to the eSIM account. (You must keep 100MB in the originating account thought)

If you take the 2nd option, you can still use the microchip in another device or give it to someone. If your normal SIM underneath the microchip is no longer active, it won't affect the operation of the microchip.

      I hope this helps.

      Cheers,

      James

  • Hi James

Having issue trying to add the esim to my iPad pro 13 inch 3rd gen.

Everytime I scan the QR code it just prompts with can't add plan currently.

    Any solution?
