Nikon D7000 18-105mm $1447 -- Save $346

110

I'm posting this to help the photography enthusiasts, who wants to buy a good camera with Australian Warranty.

I have looked around a lot before making this buy.

Nikon D7000 camera RRP $1793 at JB and teds as well. I’ve bargained it and brought it down to $1447 that's a Saving of $346 on Camera. The cheapest grey market camera with shipping at that time was 1349. its just $100 extra, with which I have peace of mind and Australian warranty( Its my opinion though)

Also Lowe-pro bag for $34 —RRP $69 that saves you around $34, life time limited warranty

Sandisk 16 GB Extreme SDCard(30 MBPS) for $80, —RRP $129- Save's $49, life time limited warranty

Lens Protective filter for $20 —RRP $49 Saves you $29 + 5yrs warranty.

Maximum discount for 4yrs extended warranty was $10. I literally have to walk off the store to get this discount.

Well, last but not least. I’ve traveled overseas recently, I have claimed the tax at airport (after tax rebate my total payment on Camera is $1316 (1447-131=1316)

Let me hear your stories.

Good luck Ozbargain hunters.

  • Is it possible to price-match just the camera alone, when the receipt shows a whole bunch of extras? JB Hi-Fi and other stores tend to be more willing to negotiate on price if you're buying extended warranty and lots of other extras too. :)

Yes dear you can price match, Initially I have bargained the camera only.

Other things I've purchased on my own for peace of mind.

  • Don't use the cheap filter. Just keep a lens hood on for protection.

Well, I bought it to protect my lens from scratches. Its made in Japan and protects UV Rays. If I had any problems I still have 5yrs of Warranty on it.

All Photographs have come professionally well. I wouldn't be bothered about it dear.

Or use a good quality filter with the lens hood.

I don't want my $2500 lens damaged when I could have just put on a $50 filter.

lets not deviate from the topic. Stick to camera Deal.

tax rebate is wrong, otherwise, good price

Tourist Refund Scheme. I've claimed it under this. I've received the GST money back from ATO. (I used 'Rebate' in conjunction or referring with myself)

      Plz Refer : http://www.customs.gov.au/site/page4646.asp

      • He means that your GST refund is not 10%, rather, it's 100/11 =9.09% which works out to be about 131 dollars.

No dear - RTS refunds you the GST - which is only 1/11 of price you paid not 1/10. Check your RTS receipt = $131.54

I also agree pity to diminsh picture quality of your $1,500 outfit with a $20 filter (apologies dear). You should have paid minimum $50 for decent quality one: Hoya or Nikon rather than Kenko.

Got my D7000 in January for AUD$1,249 - body-only: http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/38654. I would have guessed prices had come down since then (despite tsunami effect on many Nikon components).

I have had loan use of a Nikon 24-120mm since then and bought a cheapie grey Nikon 50mm 1.8D prime for $140 from Hong Kong dealer on eBay.

I'd recommend against kit lenses due to lower quality (sorry dear!).

About to get a 18-200mm if anyone can suggest a good price. Post tsunami stock issues appear to be resolved in that now everyone has them again. So prices are coming back down too. (CitiWide had this lens for AUD$610 +$70 freight from HK back in Feb). DD have grey stock now down to AUD$829 incl GST (and incl freight if you are not in SYD or BNE). http://www.d-d-photographics.com.au/ Would prefer white-stock if price is close - though DD have a good rep and shopfronts in Sydney and Brisbane.

Not sure that grey or white makes any difference at all if buying with an extra warranty. Looks like 5yr Mack diamond may be best(?). Interesting that Nikon lens US stock come with 5yr manufacturer's wty - but then you'd have to get it back to the US for any work needed. I seem to remember some places (?? DD) offering to include periodic servicing as part of extended warranty/service package.

Main factor for lens choice is travel usage and not wanting to be ever needing to change lenses in dirty or dusty travel locations. (50mm prime is light and good for some low light indoor, portrait and video interview usage.)

        Also looking to buy:
        - Rode Videomic appro AUD$129 plus Rode dead-cat wind-shield;
        - mono-pod - may get cheapie Hama Alpenpod from Amazon UK - dual-use, compact and light.

        Also on the wish-list - but out of reach - a Nikon 10 or 12mm fish-eye.

        Bye dear.

  • Good price. I just bought the Nikon D7000 2 weeks ago for $1069 (body alone) from eBay, brand new 2 yr warranty (but it is from overseas), love the camera to bits!!!

  • That's pretty good. I was at JB today looking at this.. but can't decide weather to get one online or not.

  • Off topic, sorry a noob question, so I just print the receipt and show the guy in JB Hi-fi for the same price?
