Got it, $0.99 confirmed on an account with a previous year subscription, so awesome!

    • Same. For the benefit of others, my sub had lapsed for about 2 months. I don't do that many ebay purchases, lately it's been a couple per month which is double to quadruple-ish of my norm

    • Got it too, thanks TA.

  • +5

this deal ties in well with the Plus Coles offer (though the range on offer is very limited).

  • +2

    Got it, ripper deal!

  • +5

Ive done teh free trial ages ago,

but when I try to sign up it comes up with

"You have already tested eBay Plus for free. If you sign up now, the annual membership fee is due immediately."

not sure if this means it will charge as $1 or $49

    • +12

I got that, if it definitely shows the "by joining now you'll just pay AU $1.00 for your first year", then you're in the clear.

      • +3

yep you are right, just signed up, my account is $0.99 debited
was a bit worried as it didnt confirm the amount with paypal,

i assume you cant disable auto renew, so need to cancel before renewal date

        • +3

You can cancel in 11 months - OzBargain has a "reminder" function, I just tried it and had no trouble setting it to remind me of this deal in 11 months.

And I'll use Google Calendar for backup.

In future, other advantages might be offered if you're still a signed-up member.

      • +2

Thanks - I read the whole page a few times over to make sure. .99c debit to my account too.

I tried this about 2 months ago when it was posted and the alert on that page was worded sligtly differently - I nearly signed up paying the full $49 - felt like I'd just avoided a car crash when I realised

        I wasn't targeted by email

    • -5

It means you are not in TARGETED people.

  • I just joined. Finally….

  • +26

I didn't receive any email about this offer

But when I visited the eBay plus page it displayed:

    Welcome back to eBay Plus

To join eBay Plus, you need to provide a payment method. eBay Plus normally costs AU $49.00 per year, but by joining now, you'll pay just AU $1.00 for your first year. Your membership will be automatically renewed each year, unless you've cancelled it.

I signed up and received an invoice for $0.99

Then I went to cancel, eBay offered

"Stay & continue your membership beyond 10 October 2020 & receive a $20 gift card"

    • +4

no email invite here either (i've already done the trial and cancelled) but it still says $49

    • That worked for me too

      • +1

        Did this work?

Then I went to cancel, eBay offered
"Stay & continue your membership beyond 10 October 2020 & receive a $20 gift card"

Edit: Keyword is BEYOND. Not that great..

        • Confirmed it worked. I was about to post the same thing. Got $20 Digital gift card

          • @owenz: So if you Cancel the cancellation you got $20 instant?

            • +1

@capslock janitor: no that Coupon is valid/inboxed after you pay next years sub making next years sub virtually $29

            • @capslock janitor: My membership will expired next month, the Gift card will be send 10 days after my renewal date.
              TC here

        • That's beyond NEXT year folks, just in case you don't realise

    • This worked for me.
Just went into the eBay and under eBay plus it outlined the same details as above.

I was previously signed up for plus and cancelled about 2-3 months ago.

  • +1

Damn i just done the 30 day trial yesterday for the Gigabyte SSD

  • Me too. After holding out for so long

  • Got this too, membership expired mid september.

  • Didn't see email, but got the $1 membership. The tip to check page for $1 fee very useful @Downey Thanks for the heads up TA!

  • +1

I wouldnt trust them, they mislead me and many others into paying $49 for something that was advertised as a free trial

    • +11

Do you mean like auto-renewal… and that you should've cancelled..

  • Got the email. Please note that the offer ends in 48 hours.

  • I'm currently on the $1 1 year membership, too bad i can't stack it.

  • +3

Thanks TA, got targeted this time. Yess!

  • +1

What email settings do you need to get these kind of offers?

    • +11

      eBay\Account Settings\Account Preferences\Communications Preferences\Promotions and Surveys\General email promotions

      • +1

No wonder I never got any targeted promos, my promo settings were un-ticked 😭

        • +1

And… welcome to the world of irrelevant ebay spam. (My wife's account hasn't been used for 3 years, then logged in 2 months ago, clicked on a HTC 10 phone, logged out again. Every day since then for the last 2 months she gets an email suggesting HTC 10 phones and accessories.)

          • @GregMonarch: If you use a Gmail account, you can set a filter to automatically send Ebay emails to the bin, where it stays for a month before it is deleted.

You can either check it every 3 weeks or so, or only check it when you see an offer mentioned here on OzBargain.

      • Thank you

  • -1

Can you cancel the auto renewal before the year is up?

    • +1

yes, when i did it back in August, you sign up, get charged $0.99. Edit membership and make sure it lists that you currently have a 1 year membership and cancel it. The 1 year membership stays active.

  • +4

yes got it, I cancelled last month and declined their $20 gift card offer. guess it pays to wait :)

    • Curses! I did exactly the opposite just weeks ago. Oh well, I've already saved well over 30 bucks in shipping I guess and I've never received any of eBay's targeted Plus offers anyway, so I probably wouldn't have got this one. What I'm trying to say is congrats :)

      • thanks :)

    • Curses! I did exactly the opposite after waiting months for my $1 offer.

      • did you previously have a 12month sub or 1 month trial? I had a 12 month sub when I cancelled it just before it expired.

        • Started with trial, then paid $29 for 1 year (immediately cancelling the renewal) which expired in August. Was hanging out for an offer since then, and went for the $20 voucher a couple of weeks ago.

  • Not targeted :(

    • me either.. probably because i scored two free trials before :(

      • Same here

    • +1

Same. No email or site banner.
      As usual.

    • Same, never used it before either.

    • +1

I didn't either but clicked into the offer and the $1 deal showed up.

  • +5

    never targeted

    • Create couple of accounts and use them alternate ..more chances of being targeted with various offers

  • +4

This is like the third or fourth time I'm not targeted :(

  • +3

fyi I didn't get the email, but when I logged in there was a banner showing up in "my ebay". I have marketing emails switched off.
    thanks TA.

  • -4

I don't think you have to be targeted, simply login and paste in the link.

  • How hard is it to cancel the auto renewal?

    • +1

Not hard at all, on the eBay plus page press the "Edit Membership" and go "Cancel Membership" and confirm the cancellation, then you keep the benefits for the full year and it won't auto renew.

      • So, not instant cancellation? (i.e. from today rn)

        • +2

Yes instant cancellation, benefits continue till expiry.

      • Thanks

    • +1

Be careful they've got deceptive looking button colours and locations to make it harder to cancel

    • Beware. I cancelled as soon as I signed up - 2.5hrs later I got an email saying payment declined from Ebay. I paid via Paypal so no way it should have declined. Nothing on Paypal to suggest they even tried to take payment. Not sure if cancelling too soon caused an issue or what but have resigned up now and will see what happens now.

      • Same thing happened for me

  • +6

To join eBay Plus, you need to provide a payment method. eBay Plus costs AU $49.00 per year. Your membership will be automatically renewed each year, unless you've cancelled it.
You have already tested eBay Plus for free. If you sign up now, the annual membership fee is due immediately.

    Add payment method
    (AU $49.00 per year)

    • Did you proceed?

    • My page is different

To join eBay Plus, you need to provide a payment method. eBay Plus normally costs AU $49.00 per year, but by joining now, you'll pay just AU $1.00 for your first year. Your membership will be automatically renewed each year, unless you've cancelled it.
You have already tested eBay Plus for free. If you sign up now, the annual membership fee is due immediately.

    • Try clicking again. Several minutes ago I clicked the OP's link and it was $49. I've just clicked it again and now it's the $1 deal.

  • I got targetted after my last membership finished in September.

Ebay must be desperate. When I went to the membership section to stop the auto cancel, I got offered a $20 gift card for staying beyond 20 October 2020…

      • No I didn't. And I haven't gone through with the cancellation either. I've set a reminder for Sept 2020.

  • +3

No luck for me. Although I don't think I used it once during my previous 1 year trial so no real loss I guess.

  • +1

I didn't get this offer - but seems like I have a different one, which is $10 off. Don't think I'll be taking it up.

  • Finished 1 year trial last month and today got this $1 deal. Sweet.

  • Targetted. Good to go with $1.

  • Bugger! just signed up on Oct 2nd at full price and now received this email.
Can I cancel the current, get a refund then use the targeted email?
Or can this be added onto the current one to give 2 years, sorry for the dumb questions but any help would be appreciated.

    David.

    • Try eBay chat, chappy.

    • +1

I spoke with chat. I just signed up yest for $39 and have got the $1 offer. Its quite unfair and the chat agreed. However, there is nothing they can do right now and have escalated the issue. They will respond back in 24 hours.

      • +1

Same her, spoke to chat but they won't budge.
I signed up last week and got the $1 email today.
I argued with them but they won't move.

        • +1

mine was less than 24 hours and havent used the service. They will get back to me within 24 hours. lets see what happens.

      • Same here, I re-signed up on the Oct 9th for $39 and also got the $1 offer. Chat also agreed that it was unfair and escalated the issue with a promise of a response within 24 hours. Hadn't heard from them since then so I followed up with another chat today. They admitted the email was sent in error but refused any kind of refund. They even starting singing the praises and 'benefits' of eBay plus. I wish eBay would take a leaf out of Amazon's book and actually provide CUSTOMER service.

        • yes, hopeless. Wasted my time.

  • so do you have to have joined the first 30 days free before, in order to be targeted?

    • +1

No. I've never had a trial and I was targeted.

  • thanks TA. got it this time!

  • +6

Received no email. Went to the sign up page and found that I am eligible. Subscribed to Ebay Plus for $0.99. Thank you TA.

    • +2

Received this email from ebay just now

Unfortunately, the payment for your eBay Plus subscription was declined. Please contact your bank for more information regarding the cause of the decline.

As we didn’t receive the payment, we have cancelled your eBay Plus membership. If you want to continue to be a member of eBay Plus, you can sign up again.

Incompetence at its best - Ebay.

      • +2

Because I sent them an email telling what you have done..

  • +1

Never had eBay plus, ignored the $5 offer a few weeks ago, doesn't seem I got lucky on this one though :(

    • +2

I regretted paying $5 after this deal but good to know I might not been offered it anyway so my regret is evaporating. Thanks :)
