  • Picked up a pair form watergardens sca, will install it tonight and see how it compares to stock on an accord 2008

    • Let us know!

  • If you wait or regularly browse Supercheap do often at least once every 3 months have older model speakers like these small ones regularly below $20-$30. Funnily enough I think I purchased a similar 3way 10 year older model version of this a decade ago on clearance for about $17 too.

Without an amp and/or a good head unit you're wasting the speakers (defs won't be a lot of doff doof happening) but at $20 and DIY it may be worth it!

    • Judging by some of the comments I reckon it will be a good experience for some people just to learn more about their cars.

      • Lolz. Yeah I'm not surprised by the amount of 'will it fit my car questions'. I'm just waiting for the next thread on how to install these as it can vary wildly or seeing a few on gumtree/classifieds/ebay.

My tip is if you're serious about DIY'ing it, at least try to take your speakers out first to look at the size, dimentions, how its held etc before you buy it. The mister just took it off, drove to the shop and ask the attendent if he can take a speaker to check on the car. It looked like it would fit with some extra drilling and brackets so $17 handed over.

At least if you can get that far you're almost halfway there.

Back in the days when we cared about doof doof in the car. Now with kids would even settle for the faulty bose babypods.

    • Nah some cars have notoriously terrible speaker quality. I haven't needed speaker upgrades on my cars for almost 15 years but my current recently purchased car needs them badly.

      • What car is that?

  • Haven't found a single store that has it stocked in Sydney :(

  • Thanks OP bought two sets.

  • I pickup a couple sets to go on my Pajero matched to the Clarion Android Auto from Autobarn that was recently posted on ozbargain. Im actually wondering if I should have picked up a component set of speakers for the front like this https://www.supercheapauto.com.au/p/sony-sony-6.5-inch-compo… since the Pajero has seperate factory tweeters. Can I just replace the main speakers with this and leave the factory tweeters alone? Sorry for the noob question.

Picked up from north lakes SCA. Just finished installing, well I can’t see how they brand these extra bass, they’re not blowing my socks off just yet

I think a lot of us have been echoing the above. It might improve the sound pending how rubbish your old speakers are but if it's spec'd to the head unit or the wires/connections are all rubbish you won't get awesome sound especially without a decent amp and/or matched head unit generally.

Once you get those set up it'll handle the extra bass allright, the old ones would most likely blow up before they blow your socks off

      • I've got a $300 pioneer head unit installed last year, 50W high quality output per channel. While I understand obviously an amp will improve things these speakers simply don't have heavy punchy bass that you can feel rather than just hear.

Ah I see. Yeah the little 6.5" ones you normally wouldn't feel much I guess, more for treble and the 3 way. Even with an amp I don't think you'll likely see them bouncing around as much as you'd like. Least it's $20 only right.

@H E B: thats right and ive actually tuned the rear factory speakers which somehow are quite bassy to produce mainly low freq a bit like a subwoofer and relying on these sony's for the mids/highs, sounds good.

            • @OzBerghainer: If you turn up the dynamic sound stage equivalent to max elevation (hard to describe but it kinda raises the music so that it sounds like it's coming at ear level) on your head unit, you should definitely hear the tweets kick in at least and the quality of those new speakers compared to the old ones!

  • Picked up 2 sets today from Labrador store, will be way better than the stock ones in my old hilux

  • Good deal. Pity I don't need to upgrade the speakers in any of my vehicles. Even my dad's 27 year old EB Falcon factory speakers are still kicking strong with an aftermarket Sony head unit.

  • Back up to $79.95
