Isn't it illegal to sell products past it best before date?

    • +10

It's not, here's the reference for you:

      http://www.foodstandards.gov.au/consumer/labelling/dates/Pag…

      Quoting:

"Foods that have a best before date can legally be sold after that date provided the food is fit for human consumption."

Further on that, we have checked those product past best before and there is nothing to indicate that there is anything wrong with them. However if you'd prefer to avoid these, we have plenty that are before date above too.

Ive purchased some of these Grenade carb killa expired bars in the past and they are fine. They are a little blander in taste but nothing wrong with it.

A lot of processed foods will keep fine for well after its used by or expiry date.

        • +2

Just for clarification, these aren't expired. Expired products aren't legally able to be sold. These bars are past their "best before" dates. Very important distinction

  • Hi Jay,

Any deals coming up on Quest bars? I'm looking for a couple of boxes.

    Thanks!

    • +1

Hi Bob. At the moment we don't have any on hand to go on special. I can't however say with any certainty whether or not we will have specials on Quest in the future I'm afraid. Sometimes we get dumped with a bunch of stock all at once without much prior warning.

We've got a couple of codes on the website you can use on Quest bars. DEAL4ME will give you 10-15% off (15% for orders $150+).

  • What is the point of the 'No branding exterior' shipping option? Dunno why anyone would pay $3 for it

    • +2

Think of people that live in unit complexes getting deliveries, I'm sure some people would prefer to have a no branding box as opposed to a branded one where someone might be more tempted to steal it.

    • +3

Just as aligind4h0us3 has highlighted above, this is a key reason. Some people also prefer for others not to know where they are purchasing from.

The vast majority of people don't select this option. We do however offer this as an option and there is an additional charge because there is additional labour involved in packing these orders. It's not our standard process, but we're happy to accommodate if need be.

      • Jay
      • Fair enough.

    • People like to steal shit

      • -1

It's just different packaging and you are slugging $3 for 'additional labour'. What a farce.

        • +1

Yeah but you dont HAVE to pay for it at all. Its an option…thats all.

Who knows what circumstances people might use it for. For example my old workplace used to be against personal orders being delivered to work. If a box arrived with no branding on it, problem solved :)

        • +1

PlushToys, I would like to jump in here in order to provide some additional information on the topic. We do not stock standard plain boxes, only our own branded boxes. This is because stocking plain boxes incurs additional investment into inventory and additional space.

To illustrate why we have the additional fee, here are a few options which we may implement for the customer:

          1. Deconstruct one of our boxes and turn it inside out and then tape it back together.
          2. Run around the warehouse trying to find a suitable plain box.
          3. Find a branded box, and then wrap that box up in black pallet wrap so there is no external branding.

In any case, there is additional labour involved and sometimes materials. Our objective is to provide exceptional value to our customers and we do so by selling at very tight margins. Every little bit counts and therefore we offer this as an optional service in case someone wants this as an option. That way everybody who doesn't want it doesn't need to pay for it (which would ultimately be built into the product margins).

  • Yo Jay, any pre-workout deals on the go?

    • +1

Hi whitelie, if you check out our bargains page, we have the Rule 1 R1 Pre Train for $37.26 in the Candy Apple flavour (normally at $62.10). That's the only pre workout we have on heavy discount at the moment, but it's a good one.

  • how does RULE 1 PROTEINS R1 PROTEIN compare to Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard 100% Whey Protein Powder?

    $85.90 off, tempted~~

How long after expiry date that is still safe?

    • Hi Homr. Rule 1 is a very popular brand, huge over in the USA and growing quite a bit in Australia too. Here's the standard product link. You'll see we have 219 reviews, 4.7 stars.

Both are WPI/WPC blends. Both are highly rated and both are brands from the USA. The macro's vary slightly, but they are very similar products. Ultimately it would come down to taste preference.

As for how long after expiry, I cannot comment specifically on this product. But we do have our own brand manufactured and being a whey protein, it is fine to be classified as a Best Before date in Australia. This one however has an EXP date because it's imported from overseas and it may be best to consult with the manufacturer if you're concerned.

      • Jay
      • …so will it still be safe drinking it after Dec 2019?

        • Although it's unlikely that it will pose a safety risk consuming shortly after the EXP date being a dry milk powder (it's usually the flavouring that can become less pronounced), the manufacturer has placed that date on there to advise not to consume past this date. As a result we cannot advise otherwise for this particular product and would advise to follow the manufacturers suggestion. However, if you did want to ask the manufacturer directly for advice, you can contact them here: https://www.ruleoneproteins.com/pages/product-questions

          • @aminozcomau: oohhh what, that's not good. I was expecting to keep consuming the protein past Dec 2019

    Bought, thanks OP

    • Nice, no worries and thanks for the order!

      • Jay
  • What's the % of soy in the grenade bars please?

    • It would be relatively low and the manufacturer doesn't specifically publish this. So the ingredients are as follows (Caramel Chaos):

Protein Blend (Calcium Caseinate (Milk), Milk Protein Isolate, Whey Protein Isolate (Milk)), Milk Chocolate with Sweetener (18%) (Sweetener: Maltitol; Cocoa Butter, Whole Milk Powder, Cocoa Mass, Emulsifier: Soy Lecithin; Flavourings), Bulking Agent: Polydextrose; Hydrolysed Beef Gelatine, Humectant: Glycerol; Soy Protein, Cocoa Butter, Soy Oil, Palm Fat, Sweeteners: Xylitol, Sucralose; Skimmed Milk Powder, Low Fat Cocoa, Flavourings, Tapioca Starch, Salt, Emulsifier: Soy Lecithin.

The soy is contained in the lecithin (which will be very minor) and then soy protein and soy oil further down the ingredients list. Since Milk Chocolate with sweetener is at 18%, both soy protein and soy oil will be significantly less than this. However I'm afraid I don't have an exact percentage for you.

      • Jay
      • I got this from the Caramel Chaos ingredients. It seems there is more soy in the crisps as well. Might give it a miss.

Milk Protein (Calcium caseinate, MILK protein isolate, WHEY protein isolate), Milk Chocolate with (Sweetener: Maltitol, Cocoa Butter, Whole Milk Powder, Cocoa Mass, Emulsifier (Soy Lecithin), Flavours) 18.3% Gelatine Hydrolysate, Bulking Agent (Polydextrose), Humectant (Glycerol), Soy Crisps (Soy Protein, Tapioca Strarch, Salt) Soy Crisp (Soy Protein, Fat reduced Cocoa, Tapioca Starch) Cocoa Butter, Soy Oil, Skimmed Milk Powder, Palm Fat, Sweeteners (Xylitol, Sucralose), Flavours, Fat Reduced Cocao, Salt, Emulsifier (Soy Lecithin).
