end of this yr please/// still in contract..

  • This looks like a middle-ground between the 2 pioneer plans (light and medium), excluding the 13,1300,1800 numbers. Is there any advantage for choosing this over the medium (except for cost)?

  • Talk value to Live Connected $400.00 <— does that include calls to other people who are on Optus ?

if not .. how the hell do you know if someone is on Live Connected or not ?

Do you have an iphone app like Vodafone does that says who you can call for free from your friends list ?

    • nope you ask the person if they are, as simple as that. You can find out without asking but you'll have to wait for the bill to show up a month later. Numbers are generally marked with a special character

      • see thats interesting .. coz i have TPG as my provider for Optus currently .. and it says calls to TPG users only .. but then I get anyone who is on Optus free .. well after 8pm anyway during Yes Time

        unless thats different again ?

        • yep, it's different. I know for a fact looking at my bills and call details that LC2LC is only for LC users, if someone uses Optus I wouldn't know if they do until they tell me that.
But I haven't checked my latest bill and as LC have started to deal directly with Optus intead of Telco in a Box, the Yes time deal may be different

  • damn. I just signed up to their $15 one :(

    • $15 one is better, includes 13/1300/1800. with 90c per minute prices its really good to have it included

  • So close. This was the price I have been waiting for, but sadly I am not porting from Voda or 3 and the loss of 13/1800 (however seldom used) is disappointing

  • I was waiting as well. But want to port from TPG. Maybe next time. We pay pretty much the same as their pioneer series with tpg ($15).

  • They won't sign you up unless you put in driver's license information (they’ll just ignore your application and say nothing to you).

If you don't have a license (for example if you’re disabled) then you’ll be discriminated against it seems.

    • I thinks that's probably a government requirement for id. You need to do that when you buy a prepaid sim card from any provider.

    • Already been discussed in the previous LC deal. Dealbreaker for few, but then again credit card companies do the same against low income individuals and international students.
Move along, nothing to see here folks

      • They refuse an Australian passport number instead - they simply couldn't be bothered. I think you'll also find that most low income types with mountains of debt have a license anyway; as a prepaid arrangement they're not a credit provider so that won't be a consdieration.

        • I think you'll find this has more to do with identification and being able to validate who you say you are on your application. They probably have systems in place to be able to automatically verify this through your license number. I forgot my license at the optus shop and they wouldn't sell me a prepaid kit, even with my CC's and Student ID present. Similarly, when i was a kid, they wouldn't let me into a MA15+ movie because I did not produce ID to prove this. You can't call that discrimination just because you cannot provide the necessary identification. If they only take one kind, that they can verify to be true/accurate, then that is your responsibility to produce it. Disabled/Abled is irrelevant.

        • Drivers license is only necessary for verification if you are attempting to control a motor vehicle. The auxiliary uses of this for identification purposes can be serviced by other forms of ID – 18+ card, passport, etc. Due to the nature of a driver’s license it’s not always possible for all people to have one for reasons such as disability, etc. Other forms of ID are available to cover this requirement and most providers – even Optus or Voda or Telstra – are happy to take other forms of identification. Other forms of identification are also verifiable, this is why other organisations take them; to avoid discriminating against those who don’t have one particular form of ID for whatever reason. This isn’t about producing ID or not – as you cite in your movie example – this is about reasonable alternatives and not trying to accept other legally binding and verifiable forms of ID.

        • I understand where you are coming from, but i was mainly referring to the fact that LC probably has a system in place that takes the Drivers license number and can verify/cross check. I've seen some agro comments on their fb page, recently and a while back, i just think it might be more effective to contact them formally. Infact I'm pretty sure the rep even replied to one person saying their disability ID card is fine, just to leave a note. So hopefully they have a loophole for other forms of ID too.

    When I read:

"offer is exclusive to people porting their number across from either Vodafone or 3 across to Live Connected"

…I'm thinking: This company had NO confidence in their service; they want to tie people in, whether they like it or not.

NOT my idea of a deal.

    • +1

I fail to see how LC is trying to tie people in as it's a month by month plan you can leave anytime. More like trying to take customers from Vodafail. I'm not a LC customer BTW, but will certainly consider them in future.

$20 for SIM and shipping, what a rip off. No other provider (except TPG) charges something like that.

    • +1

Heh, it used to be a $20 refundable deposit and people complained about that… given the change, most would wish those complainers just left well enough alone.

      • +1

rofl you should check the previous LiveConnected threads and you'll see who complained the most ;)
And yes dkslim, youve pointed that out like 50 times already, who's to blame?

  • Looks good, anyone know if the data is shaped or not?

    • From what I saw, they levy excess charges which I noted as a danger, but so do lots of other providers.

      • Pity there isn't at least a decent usage meter available for the desktop…looking at using it for the kids to use and tether it to their pc's. Cheap for calls and data, paying more for the data alone atm.
Shaping would be better, any option to do so @iveconnected ?

        • are you using a phone or usb dongle to tether? could pick up a cheapie android with 2.2 and run the hotspot then you could measure the usage quite accurately!

        • random123 I would be using the phone, so usage from the phone would be the next best thing…handy to have a usage meter so I can monitor the usage from other pc's/locations. It's for the missus and kids to use, they need a bit of supervision, else my pocket will feel the pain. Cheers.

try 3g watchdog and i think you can get an extra program that disables the apn once you reach a certain limit. Might be worth a try.

        • +1

Cheers random123, will give it a go.

        • liveconnected now have a usage barring service online now..But looks like it bars only when you reach over $20 in excess usage.

  • Any plans for porting from TPG?

  • Only +8 so far says it all…REP, make this deal available to ALL and they will come (including me!). I'm guessing that because LC are direct with Optus now, Optus are waving a carrot for them to get more churn customers from other carriers. No benefit to Optus if TPG or Virgin customers swith as they are already on the Optus network and Optus are already getting their cut.

    Beware, no Blackberry support

    • not enough reason to neg. What it doesn't support is 3G on blackberry. I only have experience with a 8100 but had a friend with a Storm2 for whom? it was working

  • I just have a noob questions. Is it possible to port numbers away from LiveConnected when joining a different carrier afterwards, as there is no support phone number, would other carriers bother porting from them. Has anybody already done this?

    • I'm pretty sure the porting process is done via computers, not by operators talking to each other over support numbers.
