+1 for abb, over year now never had speed issues.

  • Aussie is one of the best providers in Australia. Every other providers connections we've tried at our house, has had very bad connection issues, dropouts, poor speeds, just terrible, it must be CVC to the POI. The only one that was stable constantly was AussieBB.

  • +1

+1, I've been a customer since May 2017 and very happily so after jumping off Internode (it was a good ride).

I've dealt with a number of providers, going back to the Dingo Blue days. And I can very comfortably claim that ABB is by far, the best provider in terms of customer service as well. Quite amazing service, just quietly.

    • +1

Hmm i just signed internode this last month and my experience has been awesome, what issues did you have?

  • Can I use my old dodo Huawei HG659 modem for ABB?

    • Yes, but you should get a better router, that's like putting 91 in your brand new Kia sprinter.

      • You obviously have 0 idea what ron ratings mean. It has nothing to do with proformance and everything to do with compression.

        • Ok, it's like putting yew in your race horse.

One of my clients just changed from OptusCable to Aussie. They told him his current modem would be compatible but when they turned up realised it wasn't (which should have been obvious) He had to go spend a few hundred more on a new router that day as would have had no internet otherwise. Telstra might cost a bit more but they give you a great new router with built in mobile backup.

    • +4

So your client had to spend hundreds of dollars on a new router?

The Telstra modem is priced at over $200 and it sells for $50 on eBay. You can get a 4G/VDSL/NBN router last minute at office works for less than Telstra charges. Or get one on eBay for a lot less.

Your client dodged a bullet…. He got a better modem for less and is not locked into a plan.

      • and its highly unlikely his router wasn't compatible unless he was on FTTN, in which case its pretty obvious that you'd need a new modem/router.

telstras modem/routers are laughable, and if the connection was stable you wouldnt need 4G back up anyway (like with ABB)

Just wanted to join the ranks of people giving props to Aussie Broadband. We signed up a couple of weeks ago with them and they've been nothing but helpful. We have no issues with the speed and connection so far.

  • +2

I wish they would offer deals to existing customers. Been with them a for over a year now, and while they are good, I sometimes question the price to perfromance ratio.

Would be nice to be thrown a bone every now and again.

    • I agree. I get that they want to attract new customers but sometimes it feels a bit galling. It is so easy to switch isps that some incentive not to would be nice (the tech support was good but my line has been stable for quite a long time and I haven't used it for ages).

    • +1

I feel the same way mate been with them over a year signed up with no discounts (none at the time after telecube went bust) Just leaves a bad taste In your mouth paying $74 for 50/20 isn't really that special compared to other providers deals these days

Considering the belong deal but the hassle of changing over what worries me !

      • Yeah, would be nice if they rewarded long-term customers. I pay $79 for 50/20, just curious how you got $74?

        • +2

You can custom choose the plans mines set to 50/20 500GB data and pay $1 per 100gb if I need extra, Usually 500G is enough for me streaming netflix in 4k gaming etc, only go over it if theres new games I purchase or download Movie torrents etc.

      • You can simply leave. Choose the best deal for your needs & budget.

I had the same situation with Internode, many moons ago. Moved to TPG, completely apples vs oranges.

Saved a ton, had the EXACT same rock solid connection, and quota repeatedly grew for free. But, I was one of the lucky few.

For these connections now, I'm staying put (Aussie).

    • Yeah, I'm done with ABB. I will probably switch to Belong in October. Stay mininimum 12 months then maybe switch back to ABB when there's a free modem deal or something (due to limited service I had when I didn't have their modem). Although there's many reasons I don't want their crappy modem so I'll see what other ISP offers are around at that time.

It's $2 more on Belong for unlimited 50Mbps.. ok, it's a special rate only for the first 12 months, but at the moment I'm 150gb/25Mbps on ABB for $57..

ABB isn't really providing value. Speed doesn't matter, Belong is twice as fast at the same price. Who cares if it slows down a bit. Customer service.. sure. But I need it so rarely (only if hardware is flaking out and I don't have a spare, really)

    • How do you think I feel? It's been like 5+ years now. I would switch if the household didn't need their reliable fast IPTV wog channels.

VOCUS sucked the last time I was with one of their resellers. Others that provide a comparable network to Aussie costs about the same if not more.

    • That's life. Not getting credit for issues that didn't happen.

It's not a one way street. I got a great deal (still do), so now I give them one in return, loyalty.

  • I've had internet issues lately with Aussie so I'm now thinking I should try this excellent tech support you guys are talking about…

On a side note, my first 6 months is about to run out. Anyone know the next most competitive deal for 50/20?

    Cheers

    • Belong 55$ plan. Speeds are 50 20 even on the lowest plan.

  • Does the promo code expire at 11.59pm, 29th or 30th September?

    • +1

Sorry it expires 11:59 pm 30/09/2019. I've edited the above post

Superloop is cheaper and 1 month free with TRYSUPERLOOP

    • It's actually $3.45 more expensive for the 6 months with Superloop. If we're ozbargaining.

6 months Superloop - $374.75 (includes free month)

      6 months AussieBB - $354

      • First 6 months ABB then switch to Superloop

  • Damn, I signed up literally 2 days ago. Do you reckon they'd let me get in on this if I gave them a call?

    • damn, same here. though i got the last deal which was the first month free.

  • Does anyone know how/where ABB routes traffic to Singapore (or SEA) for FTTC? i.e. does it all get routed through Sydney even though there are other optimal routes?

    • +1

don't quote me but i'm fairly certain it's routed through sydney -> perth -> singapore.

    • I don't know if this means they route all traffic like this but my PUBG ping to the Singapore server is 80 from Adelaide so it's going straight there. (I'm on fttn).

      • Thanks for the info - I'll probably need to ask them directly, because I'm currently with Internode, and their FTTP routes straight to singapore (pubg ping of 80), but their FTTC goes through Syd, so I'm getting about 200-250ms ping…
Although to my frustration, it seems the majority of help desk employees for ISPs don't have an understanding of this.

    • +3

unknown? abb is one of the highest rated nbn providers.

      • Not to be confused with Australia Broadband 😂

  • When I signed up to ABB in July to 100/40.

They gave me 1 month free and a 2nd month free when I notified them of the plan starting 3 days before my connection was functional.

    I get 84/32 with FTTN.

  • I've got nbn100 unlm. with Kogan for the same price (undiscounted)

  • -1

$40 Telstra prepaid 20 gig, with unlimited Telstra air for 1 month, pings very stable in gears of war 5, (not recommended for people living with family) 2mbs for 12hours free, can watch YouTube, download huge gears 5 file of 60gig free, will take awhile but you can still use your phone credit, and should be downloaded on two days continuous download.

Luckily Telstra has not cought on.

A ozbargain 1gb fttp homedweller with it switched off indefinitely until otherwise.

I'm one customer to win over if you can do that you will be successful.

  • Perfect timing, Optus were finally about to cut off our cable connection and I had been planning to sign-up to aussie BB anyway!

  • +1

I've been waiting for ABB to do a decent offer but gave up earlier this month and decided to try Kogan's offer.

I was already on TPG as an ADSL2 customer and told them I was going.

TPG's "Customer Retention" section phoned me and offered:

    50/20 plan $69.95/month (they won't discount it).
    No contract
    No setup fee
Free modem (it cost $10 for delivery).

    So I took it.

FTTN in Erskineville. It's a high density living area.
    Getting 6-10ms ping; 45-48 down; 18-19 up.

ABB simply didn't want to negotiate when I called them.

    • Do they still charge the $20 "prepayment" for phone calls (or do you not have a landline)?

      • Yes they do but it's the same prepayment I made when i signed up to ADSL2 last year. It's just a "deposit" so you get it back eventually.

  • Ok, hope this is not a silly question:
How do you get targeted if you are a "New" Customer?
I gather there might be some Newsletter you can subscribe too, but I cant find it. Tried Googled too and only found FAQ on how to stop subscribing…

    • +1

When you "check your connection" they ask for your name, phone and email address? I used a bogus phone but my correct email in the hopes of a code like this one. Be prepared for some spam though

      • +1

        Thanks will try this.

  • I feel like they're copying this deal because of Internode's recent offer.

I switched to internode. They are on par though arguably better than ABB. Lowest pings I've ever had vs other providers. Heaps of dedicated game servers. Unmetered quota for steam and Netflix etc. Massive file mirror database. The list goes on…

I hope the new normal price for 50/20 unlimited will be $60 within the next year.

    • Looks like Netflix is metered if you signed up to Internode after 16 Dec 2015?
      https://www.internode.on.net/residential/entertainment/unmet…

      • Aww, I was all excited for a few weeks. Haha

Don't know why it matters really, most people don't save much on non-unlimited internet deals.

        • +1

yeah doesn't really matter to be honest since their plans >25mbps are unlimited.

I'm planning to sign up with Internode next week for a HFC connection. They seem good value and your review is quite reassuring.

Tried ABB for 6 months previously but wasn't overly impressed with random short drop outs on my current FTTP connection, no problem with Exetel so far.

          • @cray: Internode have had a good rep since way back in the 90s. They were always computing enthusiast and gaming centric.

  • Are ABB available in Opticomm estates?

    • Don't think so.

    • Nope.

  • Would you recommend buying the default Aussie BB router or buying my own? Any recommendations for under $250?

    • Aussie modem is fine if you are not a heavy WIFI user.

If you will connect a number of things via WIFI (phone, tv etc) then something with external aerials and better Wifi would be the go.

Most major brand modems in the shops work just fine. Those at and above about the $200 mark usually have better wifi.

If you are via Fibre to a Node (FTTN) and a long way from it (800M +) the D-Link DSL-2888a with latest firmware will obtain a slightly better sync speed and avoiding drop outs. The downside is it does not support VOIP.

    • Buy your own. The Netcomms are a tad under powered.

      • Can you please direct me to where I can read about this? Whirlpool?

I have telstra Cable will be getting NBN HFC, has netgear c6300 and asus rt66u. At the moment, it is telstra modem to the wall, rt66u to the telstra modem. Will NBN be the same or I need totally new stuff?

  • Hi does anyone know if I can get this deal on a second property if I'm a current ABB customer? Is a new connection considered new customer?

    • -1

You can get the deal on another property.

  • I personally think ABB has a different cost structure than others hence more expensive, probably quicker. However, once after a year or so, when everything stabilised, maybe considering moving to a cheaper isp? Food for thought, I am not saying ABB is no good, just saying you are paying a lot of more for something may not matter.

    • If you are using the intranet with local caches and peering then sure. If you need quality links, support that has efficacy, transparency and a company that genuinely wants to better their product then you would go with someone like Aussie.

  • There is no contract or whatsoever, so if you are not happy after switching, just switch back.

  • Tried to sign up to Telstra nbn for $90 100/40 HFC. They promised me no contract last time I chatted to them, this time it was for six months only, then $120 after that. F***k that price. I said that that was not good enough and they lost me as a customer. I then called up ABB and I have the nbn install date booked. Telstra made it too hard.

  • -1

OP has obviously chosen the far better plan (ongoing) with Belong

  • Anyone know: can you sign up now, but set a connection date for the future?

Eg. Sign up in for this deal (in September), but arrange for connection at the end of October?

    • +1

You would need to call them and they'll sign up for you. They are aware of the promo so just mention it to them. I'm not sure if they can arrange for a month later in your case but it's eligible for a couple of days later

      • Cheers! Yeah, all good - called them up, and all good to go for the end of October! :)

      • You can order now with the discount for up to 3 months before getting connected.

  • Just signed up today to get off Telstra, i got the discount email, fingers crossed you guys are right.

  • I just got my first invoice but I cant see the $20 off anywhere. I just gave them a call, they said I didnt enter the promocode, wtf.. I had taken screenshots of my screen with the promo code entered, before I confirmed my order (timestamped etc), and now they escalated it to another team…..
