Cool that only means the queen\king sheets only 15 dollars more than they were yesterday.

Damn wanted to buy some bath towels and other low cost items :(.

For a quilt, you're better off spending the extra $$ on a wool or down quilt. Mini Jumbuk are on sale at the moment at Myers but they are obviously still expensive.

The Sheridan quilts on sale are only 250gsm polyester.

    • Can attest to the quality of our woollen doona. So warm, but breathes really well.

    • Depends on what people need. Have cupboard full of Jumbuck wool quilts but they're diffult to wash and maintain. They're also not great if you have a partner who runs at a different temp to you.
Cotton/Poly is easy to clean at home, cost effective and can be used in conjunction with wool blankets.

  • Hoping someone could help me in my search for a doona.

Basically I'm looking to buy the most warmest doona. I've linked two doonas below, but I'm not sure which would be the warmest, the wool one is 100gsm heavier than the polyester fibre one but it's the cheaper one, why?
The only advantage I can see and know is the polyester fibre one is machine washable whereas the wool one requires dry cleaning, though I doonas aren't something that you'd regularly wash.
The sheridan outlet winter warmth wool quilt is 500gsm, and the sheridan outlet super warm quilt which is 400gsm.

P.s. didn't Sheridan Outlet have a higher gsm doona than the wool one in their last $99 or less sale?
If so should I wait until they get the higher gsm doonas back in stock?

Get the wool, will be warmer. I have that wool one, it is very warm.

      • Thanks for the recommendation. Ended up getting the polyester one, as it'll be easier and cheaper to wash :).

I still washed my wool one in the washing machine, just turned it to gentle wash, and no spin. Dried it flat over the top of the clothes line, making sure it was fully dry, and then spent 10 minutes fluffing it back up and making sure the wool isn't clumped.

Warmth of doonas/quilts/duvets is not based on grams per square metre (gsm) of fill - EXCEPT for silk-filled.

You need to look for tog numbers. Tog is an arbitrary unit of thermal resistance used in the textile industry. It isn't an acronym, just a word, I don't know the origin. Quality duvets and quilts and doonas will invariably quote the tog value of the item. If you want a warm one you will be looking for a tog around 10 or higher.

Wow thanks Aglet for taking the time to explain that to me. I learn something new on Ozbargain all the time :).

Have you considered silk quilts? Warm but still breathable, and because they're breathable they're usable in summer too.

I freaking LOVE my silk quilt from China. Only stopped using it because it wasn't box stitched, so the silk fibres ended up bunching up too much and getting all clumpy. But I could use it all year round because it was so nice and warm in winter yet nice and breathable in spring/autumn (used top sheet when it was really hot).

I have a thin silk one I only use in summer. It feels lovely. But for winter I have a 7 blanket 100% Hungarian down quilt. It is very warm.

      • Thanks for the recommendation, but I think silk quilts are out of my price range :(

  • is the quality of sheridan outlet products (mainly sheets and towels) comparable to their sale price?

    • +2

Their outlet only lines are hit and miss. Best to make sure the product you like is sold in their normal stores, to ensure you get the best quality.

  • meh… I'll wait till Black Friday for this stuff. Not long now.

Thanks for posting Wystri Warrick, I've been wanting to buy a couple of quilt covers and pillowcases.

  • Not bad, i added a birthday voucher they gave me a few months ago to get a further $25 off. So $75 for some new sheets

  • What the hell are all these options? I thought it was just a dooner/quilt cover, bed sheet and pillow case. Can anyone breakdown the below?

        Sheet Set
        Fitted Shee
        Flat Sheet
        Quilt Cover Set
        Bed Cover
        Bed Skirt
        Blanket
        Quilt
        Bed Topper
        Underlay
        Mattress Protector

If only google could break this down for you…

Anyone comment on their towels? Are they priced well or are their better options out there?

  • I personally use a 100% goose down king size doona, not cheap but I found it to be very thin and light compared to other materials, it does get too hot for me sometimes in summer being a bloke (use aircon on hot days). I got one for the misses and one for my mother. They both threw away all the thick polyester messy stuff and that is all they use year round even in summer. Cleaning wise, they Just get dry cleaned twice a year, I also have a duck down and feather doona that is used for guests now, it was heavier but slightly cooler.
