Umm the only notification I've set is for messages and I've not had any dramas. I occasionally get the device not counting steps though. Other than that I love this device.
I've rest my gshock since I bought this a month ago.

mine doesnt even detect bringing your wrist up to turn on the display
sure wouldnt trust it to detect id fallenLame, wife was diagnosed with epilepsy … Would rather avoid a stupid expensive Apple watch
Apple is expensive, and I personally don't know your situation, but I wouldn't mess with a cheap-o device when a serious scenario can occur. I actually read maybe a month or two ago about the apple watch saving some ladies life - as she fell, and apple watch contacted IIRC her husband and ambulance and someone else as well. I was impressed, pretty nifty device.
It does turn the display on if you turn that feature on and set the correct wrist in settings. I have this model since July.
Does not have a fall feature that i'm aware of.
I quite like the 4, but the vibration alert is much less powerful than than the 2 which is a real shame.
My vibration is pretty strong, I'll compare it with my wife's mi band 2. You might have a defective one?

It can be mitigated a small amount with the custom patterns with Mi Band Notify Pro software, which is so much better than the official software, but then with the 2 you could create crazy strong vibrations using that.
Any risk of buying the Chinese version over this?
I think once you download and sync with the app, it changes to English version.
I bought chinese version and gifted to a mate and he says it works fine after syncing with app.I picked mine up in HK and it's been totally fine in english.
Can it display traditional Chinese notification but GUI in English?
Chinese version I got from eBay store goodgoods182-3 is excellent. It came with alipay.
Global version just has more languages. Chinese is Chinese and English only so no problems. Can get for about $40AUD from Aliexpress
Chinese version also has NFC and built in microphone, designed for the Mi assistant/Banking
The Global version doesn't have that hardware

it was a mi band copy indeed. still a colour screen, and fits mi band, well, band. I got $15 partial refund and kept it. kids will love it sure.
The Mi Smart Band 4 is the global version of the Mi Band 4 sold in China, and it lacks two features -
NFC and microphone.
However, it retains rest of the specs like a 0.95" full-color AMOLED display, sleep and heart rate monitoring, and water resistance up to 50 meters.

Good question - Alipay now works in australia as i see signs around the place.
My band does have the ALipay option in it.
To use it with the band you need to configure the ALIPAy app on your device
I downloaded but i decided not to experiment because i was just not ready to hand my data over to an entity i don't enough about yet and i use my phone to pay for everyting already anyhow.
I think it's only if you are based in China. Was not able to set it up with local card.

Thanks mate. I have been eyeing off the new GTS or Stratos 3, but I don't know when they will be released. I'm not sure why manufacturers don't produce a fitness band with GPS.
I see, you want a compact band with GPS. Most seem to be bigger style, probably due to the fact that in needs it's own chip/receiver which in turn needs bit more processing power batter etc. that the smallest ones
Ordered it anyway hope it is better, brighter than band 3 and can display non english notification when in English interface.
My wife had the mi band 3 and find the mi band 4 button is much better than the 3 we had. Screen is great and my first full charge lasted 22days with 11% to go. This is with msg notification on.
I couldn't read my band 3 under sunlight at all.
Do you have message notification in non english like whatsapp?
