Spend a bit more for 8K this boxing day?

Seems far to early to adopt that resolution for all use cases other than a PC monitor atm … too early IMO.

I work as a salesman and sell a bunch of TVs every day, even I strongly push my customers away from buying an 8K tv unless they really really want it (coworkers tell me I'm crazy considering the excessive amount of commission available on selling an 8K even after discounting it).

There is no way 8K media will be mainstream within the next couple of years. We barely even have 4K broadcasts of anything apart from the odd Foxtel channel. The fact that there is literally no content to play on a display 8K tv instore apart from the one demo file provided by the manufacturer is a red flag in itself.

Not to mention the fact 8K prices will drop significantly by the time it gets anywhere near to being mainstream. At the moment you're only paying >$10k just to be able to say you have a TV that can play content you can't even get. Imagine buying a Bugatti just to drive inside a parking lot…

Never trust an honest sales man. It's just not right….

Haha if anything I feel really weird working in sales. I'm jokingly referred to as a 'bad' salesman because my morals have definitely made me miss out on some big sales as no matter what I just can't bring myself to lie to a customer or sell something which I don't believe in/think is suitable for them.

Only see it as a short-term thing and will definitely be moving into a new field sooner rather than later. Not trying to speak poorly of the profession at all though. I've learned a lot of valuable skills and had experiences I'd never have learned in my uni degree, not to mention the monetary incentives that comes from always meeting your KPI's as well as the bonuses and gifts which suppliers tend to give out.

          • @Shekster: I was the exact same! Working at Dick Smith as a 16 year old and telling people not to buy a $400 wall mount from our store because a store up the road had them for $80
Safe to say, didn't last very long!

      • The new Xbox and playstation are 14 months away and will have 8k options. 8k bluray will be more available by Christmas 2020. Tokyo 2020 games plans to stream in 8k. Other streaming services (Like Disney and Apple) will be wanting 8k to act superior.

The time is not quite right just yet, but I'd say this time next year would be a good time to start pushing them. Definitely wouldn't wait 24+ months before recommending them to customers.

I bought last years model from Sony.
Boxed Damaged was a brand spanker.

A8G is a terrible model, no eARC in 2019 WTF.

    Go with the LG C9.

    • where can I get it?

Had this TV from the previous deal, tried it for a week then returned it. Quality is good but not great for the price. I now own an LG C9 from the appliance center deal, significantly cheaper + gift card and it's night and day compare to the Sony A8G. Don't be fooled by looking on display TV's, always try and test your own contents then you will see the difference. Only thing good about the A8G is the built in acoustic speaker, which is next to useless on my part as I own a decent 7.1 surround system.
