  • Pretty good deal although signed up on 27th June and still haven't heard anything from Optus.

    • I got called from them last Saturday morning and set up the account for me. Now waiting for the delivery.

    • There isn't much choice of a 7" tablet with 1024 by ??? resolution. Just order one online. Using the online chat function, the rep said I will get a call from the Order Processing team in 24-48 hours. I will believe it when it happens, but need to start think about how am I going to use that 8Gb.

      • Good luck being able to use 8 gig on the Optus network, find it hard enough to use the 1 gig I have without it dropping out, having full strength and not working.

        • Perth network for Optus is great. Not so much for Sydney.

  • 8gb per month? That sounds insanely good! Be nearly worth dropping my broadband connection at home, buying one of these and tethering the data wirelessly

  • +1

very good deal if you're looking for one of these tabs (and don't need telstra version). works out similar/cheaper than you can buy the P1000/P1000T anywhere now, but plus it comes with data for 12 months…bargain!

even compared with the $300 telstra tab sale, it's like getting 8GB per month for $104.55. not bad compared to $150 for 10gb on telstra (although, of course telstra coverage would be better).

edit: (so long as you have an ABN!)

    • is the telstra 10gb a month?

      • 10gb for the year.

        • oh ok that's what i thought..not really comparable to 8gb/month

        • True. But unless you are downloading lots of media files 10gb is plenty.

        • Well that's why it compares well…

But, as said, it depends on your usage. I would say that for the majority of users, 8gb per month vs 10gb per year doesn't really make a difference…i use about 200mb a month!

In any case, it's cheaper and has more total downloads…so as I said, aside from telstra's better service, it compares well. Unless you want to use 10gb all in one month, and none for the rest of the year!

  • so you can make voice calls with the device right?
so what happens on this data only plan, does it just not let you?

    • use voip?

      • haha im not asking for an alternative, just wondering how it works

    Types with his MyTab*

  • any other tablets like this thats better moneywise (other than optus mytab and the t-tab)?

  • +2

    8GB counted in 10mb blocks!!

    More like 800 mb realistically.

    • what does that mean? like every time you use data it rounds up to 10mb?

    • I thought that was only for prepaid?
Anyway, I think Android can keep your data session open, so minimise that problem.

This is a great deal if you want both the data and the tablet.
ie use tethering to the tablet as your primary internet connection.

      • I just did some reading, saw a comment from an optus rep that on ipad, every time you switch apps it's counted as a new session.
        That's some expensive multitasking..10mb per tweet/email!

        • +2

          that's bullshit.

Sorry. You can't have multiple sessions that would incur additional charges, it just isn't possible. Link to the rep saying that please.

"Here are some further tweets from Optus -

As an eg, if u use 13MB in one session then disconnect, it's counted as 20MB of ur data. Use 19MB and disconnect, it's 20MB - Ian

Changing apps would end a session and start a new one. Sending a tweet, then closing and opening mail would be two sessions - Ian"

you're right though, it's probably bullshit. i didn't bother verifying it after i read it, so might not be real

    • to pistonhead: "8GB counted in 10mb blocks!!

      More like 800 mb realistically."

can you please explain what do you mean by this?

      • +1

Say you're using google maps or navigation, that 10kb of data you just used becomes 1000X or 10mb. Same applies for a small refresh on an email app, weather update maybe even if you lose connection and change cel towers whilst travelling. I know optus counts prepaid this way but I'm not sure about post paid.

    • 10MB block only applies to Prepaid. And it is for Packet Data session, not TCP/UDP session.

  • +2

the mytab screen is garbage compared to this.

    • +12

      $99 bucks

    • Not to mention no multitouch or pinch zoom

      • +10

        Again $99

        • What's your point? I was just stating a fact.

        • +8

His point was — you can't compare a $100 tablet with a $400 tablet. They are in two different leagues. Kinda like comparing a Ferrari to a Hyundai

        • +7

99$…400$… hmm I wonder which will be better?

          So stupid lol

        • -1

or that $300 that could go towards something else! functionally you're not getting anything more for the money so i think most average users would take the trade off.
edit: obviously here you are getting a internet plan, but i was referring to the actual tablet itself (which even at its cheapest was around $200 more). Still a good deal with the bundled internet, if the sessions are counted in 10mb blocks you will chew through your net ALOT faster, like the 800mb comparison is pretty close to true.

      • +2

I can touch four mytab's at the same time for the same price :P

  • it's only $44.95 if you bundle with a eligible mobile plan.

    If not it's $49.95

    • Teh website gives $44.95 without an Optus Business mobile account, and $39.95 with an Optus Bussiness account. I can't see when you are getting the 49.95 from.

    • Choose no, no, 12 month in the link I provided

  • Probably would have only picked this up at the $299 price. Otherwise, you can import the 10.1 16GB which sells for $500 USD, but will have to go through a forwarding service.

  • How strict is Optus about the ABN thing, must you have one in your name ? what if i use a mates ABN ?

  • Excess usage rates or is service shaped?

    • $0.03 per mb

  • -1

For $400 why not buy a netbook + 3G wireless broadband instead?

    • different product, different usage.

I have a netbook and a tab. Suits my offer very well.

  • Can anyone confirm/deny that this is counted in 10mb blocks?

    I could ask optus but I'm lazy…

    • 10MB Packet Data session only applies to prepaid. Not TCP/UDP session

  • Anyone get a call back yet from optus?

    • Wondering that myself. Also worst order process ever if they have to call me. :/

It's not like it's hard to give my driver's license number or such online for a credit check.

Then again, their consumer 3G interface for new prepaid accounts barely works (also 48hr delay after sign-up)…
So doing things old school is probably better than dealing with their terrible websites.

If I ignore/miss/don't receive a phone call - I'm almost expecting to receive it in the mail, then be paper billed for it. ;)

      • got sick of waiting so called them direct via the 1300 number on same site for online help. They put the order through along with the 3 months free, should get it Monday. :)

  • This would be perfect for me at this moment if it has HDMI out. I know the dock is available but it's extra money and not convenient. I opted for the Teclast T760 at hotmid for now (as 3G is not essential yet for me).

  • For those with tabs, the Overcome v3.0.0 Icarus is out now =)
    www.teamovercome.net

  • just got mine in the mail… and the agreement says they put me on a 24 month plan min cost $1078
and i've spent an hr on the phone getting bounced from one department to another…

  • Anybody got a screen capture of the deal?
