Lacie make good ext drives, but this player only does 3 video types? "Plays MKV, H.264, XviD, AVI and more" what does "more" mean when it's in the specifications??!
look at 'product specs' tab….
Video Codecs: H.264, AVI, MP4, MKV, WMV, MOV, RMVB, DAT, MPEG,1/2/4, VOB, ASF, TS, M2TS, DVR-MS, DVD-Video (ISO, Video_TS, full menu navigation), AVC/AVCHD, M2V, M4V, FLV, XVID, MJPEG, TP, TRP, IFO
Is there anything that make this worth move than a WDTV Live for ~$108?
1TB drive.
This has a 1Tb hard drive built in and can play DVR-MS files (from Vista Media Centre)
But not WTV files from Windows 7 Media Centre
RMVB files.
I had one of these in the shop to test and play with. Took about 5 minutes to get on the network and stream video which it was very good at. All in all it as an alright device but I think a WDTV Live would be the better way to go. Even if you get a 1TB external drive.
The only thing that really lets it down is the remote control which wasn't the easiest to use because of the big center button.
BUT at the end of the day, if you know how, spend another $150 and build a HTPC which will let you do whatever you want.
What's the UI like? I like to have something pretty on the screen whilst choosing what I want to watch.. It's one of the reasons I've stuck with XBMC so staunchly.
Its no XBMC… so I would say it isn't for you.
Haha, thanks. I checked out the WDTV interface and it was kind of average - certainly not the worst I've ever seen though.
Nothing really comes close to the media info and themes on XBMC…. They really need to crank out some cheap media players with it. :S
This is why I built an HTPC and just run XBMC on that. So much easier…
This is a great product and can play Windows Vista Media Centre DVR-MS files (very rare for a media player) which is great for shows recorded on your computer (especially Kids TV shows - which they are happy to watch over and over). Also these players are small (like a 3.5" hard drive) and have a built in hard drive so are easy to take on holidays with you. Some other players require an external hard drive meaning more hassle.
However, Lacie product names are difficult to understand. Please be aware that the Catch of the Day model does not have an ethernet port and can not work like a NAS.
There is a model called LaCie 1TB USB2.0 LaCinema Classic HighDef Multimedia HardDisk and this does have ethernet and can even stream movies to your xbox.
needs a PVR… im tempted to get something like this:
most feature packed player ever!
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/1080p-H-264-DLNA-HDTV-Media-Playe…
somone buy it and tell me how it goes ;)
(includes no HDD though - have to buy it seperatly)
don't have one, but how do i get a moustache on my One HD logo?
Considering the date on the EPG, I'm thinking that OneHD put it there for Movember..
i saw that on DX
Price on title?
