Bauhn 65” 4K Ultra HD TV $599 @ ALDI

320

No special spiel here. Most know where to find out about it and the obligatory questions as to whether it’s any good will likely follow along with references to Whirlpool.

Anyway, it’s 65” of cheapness.

Had already fixed it. My apologies for making an error.

the catalogue photo is an accurate reflection of the actual tv screen quality

I bought the 50" screen last year for my sim racing rig and it's actually really good. No idea how this one compares.

    Is it any good?

    • Have a look at Whirlpool

      Short answer - No
Slightly longer answer - It's cheap, what do you really expect

  • +3

If you like light banding on any dark scene or clouding across the greys and black then avoid the tv. If it's sitting in the kids room watching Peppa pig then it's fine

    • +1

I agree with you there but who'd buy a 65in TV for a toddler?

      • +1

I put a 55" tv in the garage gym for my 2 and 4 year old so I could get 20 minutes of freedom during my workouts

      • +1

A kid who wants more Peppa pig

      • +2

four of them, side by side on the floor to make a little pen

You can't really compare this to the ones they've previously sold, as they seem to manufacture a new model / batch each time they have these on sale. I bought a Bauhn 55" from Aldi just under two years ago, which was great for the price until the backlight on it died yesterday - went and bought a 65" Ffalcon from JB today for $798 (of course - I knew as soon as I needed to purchase one, Aldi would pop-up with something), and yes, it's not a Samsung or Panasonic, but I'm happy with it - does what you'd expect for the price.

I looked at the ffalcon TVs and was told over half are returned faulty.
I’ve owned generic brands and high end labels and there’s is a big difference in longevity. It’s definitely worth spending the extra dollars

"It’s definitely worth spending the extra dollars"
Bought Mum Aldi 40" apx 8 yrs ago, which worked well until last month when it stopped. This was an opportunity to upgrade to a larger up to date model. On the other hand a relative at the same time apx 8 yrs ago purchased a new $2000 LG which is still operating faultlessly.
Don't forget Aldi have the 60 day return policy.

      • Aren't the Ffalcon rebadged TCL?

I have an old 47" Bauhn, aside from having to get a external tuner because the one on the tv does not handle hd chanels its been great. Also had to get a sound bar to get better sound…

Same here. Great TV which has outlasted an LG and a Samsung. Had an issue with it just after warranty expired but they still came out and repaired it.

Similar situation. Mine died a couple of months ago. I complained to tempo. They initially agreed to pay for parts only, I refused the offer, and mentioned dept of fair trading, etc. They then agreed to both parts and labor. Repair shop said it was not fixable due to its age. I complained again to tempo, and mentioned dept offair trading, and ACL, they finally agreed to partial refund. Refused it and was given full refund. Bought Samsung 55" from eBay/appliance Central for $786.

Mind you, had two other bauhns which I bought for $1200 back in 2009 and they're still going, although a bit dull.

Past reviews aren't going to help you. Bauhn (along with Medion) is a generic Brand Name given to the electronic items made for Aldi by a manufacturer who wins the tender process. It could be made by any number of manufacturers, including major brands, and as such, quality does vary.

I have a 48" Bauhn from 8 years ago that is still going strong in the study. I have a 65" Bauhn from last year that is working well. Compare that with other "cheap" brands, I have 11 Soniq TV's at work that died within 6 months. I have had LG die within 2 years. So it's up to you.

    • +1

I have 11 Soniq TV's at work that died within 6 months. I have had LG die within 2 years.

I've always bought Sony & Panasonic and have never had any die on me… Probably cheaper than buying 11 Soniqs

  • It’s got to be better than my $899 Soniq “smart” 65” 4K tv, that takes a minute to boot

  • Is this a non-smart TV? Didn't see any mention of smart anywhere.

For the actual brand and quality. It's not the TV for someone who wants to plug it in and not do any changes yet expect 100% from the TV. I have the first 55" bauhn TV that was advertised to have HDR, and it is not comparable to a TV that's twice its price and wayyyy out for TVs atleast 3 times its price, when it comes to plug and play. The default picture settings is crap to fully maximise the display potential, so you will need to adjust everything manually (sharpness, brightness etc).

    • Says it records live tv and plays media from USB. But the rest of the image is cut off and the catalogue isn’t online yet.

    Spend the extra on hisense

  • mmm, I do need an update. My 13 year old Panasonic plasma is still running great but is SD only and doesn't get the new SBS Movies channel.

    • Stop don't… - Willy Wonka

  • Anyone give this a try yet?

    • +1

      Has anyone returned theirs yet?

    • Anyone at all?

  • Yes - 8:40am purchased
    12pm set up at home
1pm back at Aldi to return piece of crap tv

you get what you pay for and I seem to have paid for blue horizontal lines and vertical black lines

    • lol…… DOA!

  • I picked one up - picture looks great to me! I’m no expert, and it clearly doesn’t have the blackest blacks etc but at this price I’m pretty happy. I’m also grateful it’s not a smart tv cos it boots up really quickly to my Apple TV :-)
