    Must resist..

I have that many USB & TF cards i already don't use..

    • +5

      righto i crumbled..

      • TF cards?

        • MicroSD before it was adopted by the SD card association

    Good for winter.

    • The absolute best USB drive for winter!

    • what does winter have to do with this?

      • +23

It runs quite hot so it works as a room heater

        • +2

yep. won't be getting another cos of the heat it produces. Bordering on uncomfortable to touch heat. Maybe a good secondary use.. for straightening creases on your tie.

  • Is USB type C different to the standard USB I've been used to using the past decade or more?

    • yes

    • Yes. Smaller, reversible.

      • -1

Might need to upgrade my hardware to use this then.

        • Why would you upgrade just so you can use this? Makes no sense at all.

          • @Maverick-au: pretty sure he means upgrade to use USB-C not this specific dongle

            • @ExtraSalt: Why? Waste of time and money.

              • @Maverick-au: i use USB-C…and it's fantastic…beyond what i could ever ask for

'waste of time' is kinda subjective. Maybe @Davelarz was on the fence about updating their tech?
USB-C 'waste of time' in terms of usage is so far from it's form and function truth it's ridiculous

                • @ExtraSalt: He doesn't know what USB-C is, so upgrading for the sake of upgrading is pointless.

And he clearly stated to upgrade his hardware to use the flash drive in this deal.

Upgrading to use something you have no idea about is wasteful.

                  • @Maverick-au: ye i get you now. why update when you have no genuine need. ye im with you now haha

        • I wouldn't bother. It's great as additional storage on phones and tablets, but it gets even hotter when connected to a PC

          • @DangerNoodle: i think he means Upgrade hardware to take advantage of USB-C…not just to get this specific USB dongle lol

        • It's faster read/write too, but you'll need an actual hardwired USB C port to take full advantage

@capslock janitor: One of the problems with usb-c is that it's just a standard for the plug, it's not actually tied to a specific speed standard. So far, device wise, there are USB-c plugs on USB 2.0, 3.1, 3.2 and the various thunderbolt standards as well. Luckily these drives are running at USB 3.1 gen 1 but it's something to look out for when buying things on Amazon and eBay as there are some devices that will have the usb-c plug but are stuck on a slower speed standard.

            • @DangerNoodle: Oh right yeah I just read around that though these are 3.1 they aren't even that much faster than a USBA 2.0

    • i transferred 75gb from external HDD to External USB-C SSD in just over a minute 2 days ago..tech is nuts…also monitors with USB-C/Thunderbolt outlets can also be used as laptop chargers (through the same port) if there is enough wattage.

      • I really don't think you did. Assuming it took 2 minutes, that would equate to the HDD reading at 600MB/s which is well above the norm.

        • i'll do it again tonight and screen grab if you like? ye i'd say within 1-2min…just over 1min is a stretch but i sat there mindblown while it was writing.

        • damn i must confess…i 100% lied to you..i just sent 71gb of Movies/Tv Shows from my SSD to External SSD via USB-C and it took exactly 3min 04Sec.

…It was SSD to External SSD not HDD to SSD (i have both in my laptop but the original files was a folder on the SSD

Also worth noting the 64GB Dual Drive version is available for $15.20, $4 more, if that's convenient for you!

      Says $19 for me (Prime)…

      • Price jumped now

        • Try again. I just bought at $11 a minute ago.
@Bunsen maybe double check you're logged in?!

          • @BlueDiesel: I am logged in and still seeing $19

            • @polarq: Looks like it must've just jumped after I commented. Sorry mate

      • Bugger, must have literally just jumped! Ah, well..

      lol

Please please please if you have the new MacBook Pro with touchbar that has USB type-C ports DO NOT buy this flash dive!!!! As soon as I put it in my MacBook Pro, it heated up and after about 30 seconds it started smoking so I snatched it. I wanted a few hours and tried it in a old phone I have that has a USB C port and the same thing happen and the phone would read it because the drive was completely fired!!! I've called Sandisk to make them aware of the problem but they didn't seem to be concerned so next I'm working their corporate office.
