Do you need to register these? (Super Soco e-bikes)

Just came accross these today. Apparently max speed is 50kmh. Here's an Aussie review which says it can be ridden in most states on a normal car license:

I'm in Sydney so what would be the Legality on these? Would I need to register it every year like a car? And can they be driven on main roads?

I already have an ordinary ebike which I sometimes commute with but it only goes 20kmh max and its not built in any way like these. Given the way they look I'd imagine cops here would be pulling me over on every corner wondering why my motorbike isn't registered…

  • Yes. They are classed as 50cc mopeds. The TS and CUx is a 1500w motor driven bike, the TC is a 3000w motor driven bike.

In NSW you will also require a motorcycle riders license to ride one of these (these bikes are also LAMS approved). Other states license requirements may vary.

  • More importantly, how do you insure yourself if you hit something expensive.

  • It is not an e-bike in the bicycle sense, it is not predominantly pedal powered. It is an e-bike in the motorbike sense. Motorbikes need to be registered to ride legally in NSW.

  • Just read the review attached. Seem like a good short distance commuter bike.

It’s a motorbike in NSW which means motorbike licence and rego. No ifs, no buts.
