Regardless of price, this phone is worth every cent.

        How about $5000?

@nikoris: So this will become the “previous model” and prices will continue to drop.

@nikoris: So everyone thinking about buying this phone knew that the new one was being announced in 2 weeks, even though it was only announced today… thanks for speaking on behalf of everyone champ.

Next time instead of contributing to this community I’ll just shut down others like u. Happy?

@nikoris: Like free Hong Kong right?

                • @Slo20: Love the word champ… have a upvote from me hahaha

        • Who will pick it up?

    • Nevermind this, that was the standard model.

Pretty risky going Huawei for a phone at the moment with the US Google stuff going on. I'd be rethinking any purchase.

There is a high chance that Android Q will be coming to the Mate 20 Pro.

      • That's fair but what about updates in the future? From reports I read Mate 30 might launch without Android / Play Store support.

        • You must live in a cave to think that Huawei will not give updates or that mate 30 will come with a different os

Can't get better hardware for the money

    • Like what, with similar camera features?

      • +1

Screen, camera, waterproof, expandable memory, ram/rom, processing power, really everything.
        Edit - forgot battery! That's a biggie

        • waterproof??

        • +3

I've had the phone for almost 8 months and it's been the best phone I've owned:

Camera is great (though I miss GCam)
Screen is excellent (though I wish someone would make a FULLY flat screen)
Processor is excellent (there's no lag whatsoever)
RAM is fine (everything loads instantaneously)
          It's waterproof
Battery lasts a full day with moderate to heavy use, and can charge back up in no time with fast charge.
          Wireless Charging (and reverse charging)
          Dual Sim / Expandable Storage
          Face Unlock

EMUI is average, but it's easy enough to chuck on a new launcher and give it a Pixel (or whatever) feel. Also if you want better gesture control, Fluid NG is a highly customisable alternative to the EMUI gestures.

    • What about software? It’s in the mercy of US now for future google support

      • +6

Not worried about it. Current devices will be fine and like any phone eventually they stop getting security patches and Android updates. Not like they can take android off it :)

If anything better off buying mate 20, skip mate 30 and by mate 40 we know China and the US have sorted themselves or it's all over and move on from Huawei.

        • Mate 40 is if we see Huawei survive this growling year

          • +6

@[Deactivated]: Chinese market alone is large enough to keep huawei going where Google services mean nothing to customers :)

            • @BrianGriffin: Seems legit

            • @BrianGriffin: Not necessarily, if they travel abroad on their own they most likely need google map.

        • +1

Yeah, but if I’m paying for a new phone, I will be expecting at least 2-3 yrs of security update.

I’m very interested with this phone but US blacklist is putting me off

If mobileciti is reading this, i’ll Jump on it if 700

    • Have seen it done, but not usually recommended ;)

      • Which part, jumping or the price

        • Jumping on a phone:) …purchased @$799 while back, great phone & NO REGRETS.

      • +3

Literally a week ago, was 706, but close enough
        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/478761

        • Always worth getting it close to $700 and with the iphone 11 coming out the phone will drop again.

  • Would like to hear people's thoughts on Mate 20 pro or S10 series?

Can get the s10e for 779 via the education program.

    • Camera and battery wise mate 20 pro is better.

I would have got a mate 20 pro if not because of the lack of micro sd card slot.

Having had previous Huawei phones i think they are great but the software really killed it for me. I have a note 9 now and personally i wouldn't go back to Huawei again as i have enjoyed Samsung's software a lot more and i really like all the features that are packed into it. I still come across new features sometimes and it blows my mind that they went to so much effort to add simple things to make the overall experience better.

I've had this phone since November last year. It's been one of the best phones I've had for all the reasons people have already mentioned. Looks like Google will be able to keep supporting the handset into the future as the Trump blacklist ban apparently didn't affect existing devices. Solid phone, and this seems to be a decent price for it.

  • I have the exact same conundrum at the moment. Not a big camera user, so have heard the S10 screen display is far superior.

    • Honestly, it's all a matter of degrees these days with the flagships. You have to be using a microscope to notice the difference in quality.

The only major difference here is the size of the edge curve. The M20Pro is much more curved.

  • Fantastic deal, haven’t looked back since mine last year.

  • You are supporting pro China and CCP if you buy this. Think twice

Free Hong Kong don't buy it!

    I rather oneplus or oppo

    • Oppo's Chinese as well, isn't it?

The big names that come to mind in this space that aren't chinese are Samsung (South Korean I think), Apple, Google and OnePlus (all US I think). Your best bets in general really, but definitely if you don't want to buy from Chinese companies.

  • wow, just 5 years ago I was buying $200 phones.
soon anything under 1k is cheap cheap…

  • Did the price just jack? Link 1k now?

  • You'd be crazy to buy a Hawaii phone at the moment.
