VILTROX EF-EOS M2 0.71x Speed Booster Canon EF Lens to Canon EOS-M $134.47 Shipped @ zhengzheng2011 via eBay

Have been watching the price of this for a while, but unfortunately bought one for $165 last week. This is the lowest price I see now. This adapter lets you convert your EOS camera to a full frame equivalent (Not in real, afterall a full frame camera is always a full frame ;)), enlarges 1 level aperture. Great accessory to consider for your EOS camera. You wont lose the autofocus or aperture control.

Also available at following for a slightly different price

Just adding a quick review after a weeks usage, its just my personal experience (I tried with Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 on my Canon EOS M50)
- A nice little thing to try out with your EOS camera, good build quality
- Autofocus and aperture control work good
- Takes max aperture from 1.8 to 1.2
- No battery drain issue noticed so far, As per viltrox its resolved in the latest versions
- Picture quality, I would say 8/10 (from reviews on youtube they say that the edges are not sharp which I am not worried as I am not a pro photographer).

  • Thank you! You've made my sunday :)

Missus won't be happy with me about another camera purchase though…

    • You are not alone.

  • But probably I will skip on this one as I do not really need it.

  • For those buying, which lens will you be using with this adaptor.

I was thinking using it on the 24-105

    • I use ef 50mm f1.8, works well with viltrox

      • model says ef-eos m2

description says Canon EF Lens to Canon EOS-M

is there difference between m2 and m?

        • It's for eos-m series. So m, m2, or m10, m100 ets. They all can mount as long as it's eos-m series. Only some newer model might have not being able to auto focus or read the aperture value. It needs to be solved via firmware update.

  • The reviews don't look very encouraging https://www.dpreview.com/forums/thread/4350743 do anyone here has a better experience?

  • While I can't comment on this particular mount, I have the Canon EF to MFT Viltrox myself and love it!

A bit of a stretch saying "EOS camera to convert it to full frame for a small cost".

It doesn't convert anything to full frame. It effectively reduces the focal length of your EF or EF-S lens (on a M series Canon body) to a shorter focal length mimicking the focal length you would see with a similar lens on a FF body - eg. a 20mm lens on a Canon APS-C body has the same field of view as a 32mm lens on a FF body, and using this would bring it back to around 23mm.

It does not make the maximum aperture of the attached lens any bigger - laws of physics, but rather helps to counteract the "equivalence" factor that makes a f2.8 (for example) appear to be a smaller aperture on a APS-C than on a FF body.

It does not obviously give you a FF sized sensor either.

Basically it makes a lens seem a bit wider and faster (at the expense of adding glass, which often affects image quality), and not a great deal more. No magic FF conversion here - LOL.

    • it still serves a purpose right ?

      • It serves the purpose as long as you realise the purpose.

Looks like OP assumed people would get their simplification. I can imagine no layman would just fork out $134.47 believing a camera turns FF after applying this adapter.

I can see that there are various opinions going on in the discussion. Just adding a quick review after a weeks usage, I am not a pro photographer and its just from my personal experience with Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 on my Canon EOS M50. Research properly before buying it.

    - Don't expect a real Full frame out of a $135 adapter hack, but nice to give it a try if you are not into professional photography
