I just got a 3.5 but won't allow me to join the network or play GT5 till there is a system update. ANy ideas?
Yeah you can't play online until you update your firmware, I think it's up to 3.66 now. People are interested in 3.55 or below because you are able to jailbreak/mod it. GT5 obviously needs a more recent firmware to play it going off what you've said. If you aren't planning on doing any of that though, you can just go ahead and update (
I'm sure some people would be keen to take it off your hands though). Otherwise there are files out there for you to update to 3.55, and that will be enough for you to play GT5.
*I assumed by 'the network' you were referring to PSN btw.
GAME are supposedly price matching this deal and giving you the option to exchange the Move part of the bundle for a 2nd Dual shock controller

Good deal for those who can't wait, but I'm going to wait a few more months for the new model/price drop.
Sony has declared PS3 has life of 10 years and it's on half way. Sony doesn't want to release new model soon. Even I read one blog website a month ago saying "If Sony or Microsoft wants to release new console then they have to inform all Game Developing Companies ie EA, Activision. So they can start developing compatible games to new consoles. But they haven't got any information from Sony/Microsoft yet.
Rest I don't know. In fact I am also waiting for new consoles with huge Graphics Card Memory :D
I don't think evitom was referring to a new console release, just speculating on an official price drop or minor adjustment - e.g. another upgrade of hard drive size. I think something must be up - normally is when you see these kind of deals. And I doubt if you or your friend know about whether or not the developers have access to new hardware at this stage. If they did, they'd have to sign non-disclosure agreements.
I'm thinking $399 or less will be the new price from now on, seeing as GAME have dropped to that price too. They changed from 120gb to 160gb not that long ago, so I can't see there being a hard drive upgrade quite yet. I can't see the price dipping much below $399 either before long, or could it. That's the question.
Ohh well, I gave an answer for "new model" part mentioned in the question. & remaining thing about price drop, I doubt if it's gonna stay long.

@ Tal_shiar - not fussed about that, I don't intend to pirate ps3 games.
Also note that it costs $7 for delivery to most cities. And it's only available online.

the best deal is still the Harvey Norman $487 for 320gb PS3 + GT5
$467 at BigW - 160gb, Move, GT5 (though useless if staying on 3.55 FW)
