I find this brand too spicy

Great deal. My first choice is always Thomy but Hellmans does the job.

Once opening the jar mayonnaise is recommended to be consumed in 30 days. This is based on other brands. Regardless, I wouldn’t be pushing my luck months after.

30 days?! I go by the best before date, never had an issue.

      • +5

The best before date is different to the use by after opening date.
Best before is the unopened date a product is recommended to be consumed by. The date after opening is how long the product is good for after the jar is open. Mayonnaise contains egg yolk which can go off.

I'm with you, we get the big jars at Costco, no probs after 3mths, it tastes the same as the day it was opened.

If anything, I find that the salmonella adds a pleasant zinginess to the flavour.

      • +5

Agreed. I've kept Thomy mayo in the fridge for at least 6 months after opening and never had a problem. Been doing it for 30+ years. As long as you don't cross contaminate it's fine.

  • +3

True that! Cross contamination and leaving it outside in room temp is a big ‘No’. If it’s in the fridge it’s good as the first day.
Except meat on the shelf (not frozen) I have being eating everything after the best before/use by dates for 20+ years of my adult life and have never had an issue!
Not sure if anyone else has come across the same. Home brand milk from colesworth’s can be safely consumed for 2-3 days after the use by date. But good brands like A2, Maleny dairies (I am from Qld) etc can be consumed for about 4-5 days after use by date. Have been doing the same for years and haven’t had any issues yet lol! Haven’t bothered to read about it as well.

  • I heard it makes a great instrument
