  • Please note that you must reside outside of the state you are visiting to be eligible for the offer

Is that meant, one need to be outside nsw ? Can any one enlighten .. Victorian can access this deal?

    • That only applies for the interstate museums with reciprocal arrangements

    • See if the following helps:
      https://australianmuseum.net.au/members/terms/
Sorry, this is my first time signing up for this, so I will know soon enough. Live in NSW, so planning trips to Melbourne and Canberra.

Questacon family pass itself is $70
An annual membership at Questacon inc 2 adults family is $160

I guess for some places, they are trying to stop people who live in that area from trying to take advantage of price differences.

Museums Victoria might be the only ones you might have problem accessing if residing in Victoria I’d say, but that’s just my guess.

      • MAAS family membership you get Questacon free entry though? Does this Australian Museum give you the same thing?

Interested with this but put off with too long T&C and the word "currently closed for approximately 12 month"

  • -4

How’s this a deal? The joint is closed for 12 months! So you’re just getting what you paid for!

    • This got mentioned in the powerhouse post from a few weeks ago. I signed up (I live in sydney) largely so I can take the fam to Questacon for free over the next 2 years.

      • You can also get into Questacon with a Maritime Museum membership, and you can actually visit that museum, so it would represent better value.

Yes very cheeky. It should be in super bold

The Australian Museum is currently closed for approximately 12 months

Hey Op, you should put [SYD] in the title.

    Another Sydney = Australia assumption.

    • More true is

Another big city = Australia assumption

Those in Melbourne and Brisbane also tend to do the same

      • Brisbane Museums = Queensland Museum and SparkLab
Melbourne Museums - Melbourne Museum, Scienceworks, Immigration Museum

So no they tend not to. ;-).

        • The Australian Museum was the first museum in Australia created in 1836, 23 years prior to the establishment of Queensland and 21 years before Victoria was founded.

I dont think there is any arrogance or Sydney = Australia here but I also dont think anyone would mind if they changed the name to Sydney Museum either.

@crazyperpman: There is already a "museum of Sydney" and already a "National museum" in Canberra. Perhaps renamed to "museum of natural history".

But to the offended, where did u expect the Australian museum established 1836 to be?

            • @Sweetnsour: I was just winding up the Sydneysiders…
              ;-)

They're not as fun as winding up Melbournians or Queenslanders.

I live in Victoria. Can I buy this as a cheaper way to getting Melbourne museum access?

    • I was trying to work out whether this was all museums because this title doesn't clearly state that.

      • I think you can. If I read the website its a bit clearer. Includes scienceworks as well.

        • yeah just found this -

          Museum Victoria
Free general admission to Melbourne Museum
          Free general admission to Scienceworks
Free general admission to the Immigration Museum

          This makes it more interesting…

@missmelb: There's nothing obvious that says excludes residents in Vic being excluded

            • @0 0 0: :( - *Please note that you must reside outside of the state you are visiting to be eligible for the offer.

              • +1

                @missmelb: Oh!!! thats cheeky…

              • @missmelb: Yeah found the exact terms and conditions

                1. To be eligible for these benefits,
                  i. You must reside outside of the state you are visiting to be eligible for the offer.
    • Only if your drivers licence has you living interstate (they check it on entry).

Also you’d miss out on cheap parking underneath (worth the $90/yr for us, as it’s cheaper then PT) .

  • +1

Reciprocal entry to South Australian Museum, which is already free.

    Like museums should be.

  • Negging this because it's not a great deal if the museum is closed AND it's also not clear that it's just one museum. Put the state please because I thought this was for all museums!

    • +2

This deal is a lot better after reading the website, it's just not explained well here…

  • Better off waiting until the refurb is finished, after all the unexpected days in construction are over. No extra incentive to commit now.

  • It should be:
"The Australian Museum is currently closed for approximately 12 months.
If not enough people pay us now, it will be delayed forever."
