Hmm 150 so tempting for the xbox

    • +11

Hell I'm tempted on my switch! Shame it's EB credit and you can only spend it on over priced merch :(

      • +1

Yeah but they price match easily and have the 1 week return policy I guess.

        • +1

This, and I use my 10 day return window for anything I know I can destroy in 10 days. Its not worth giving them full RRP lol

          • +12

@exeoluna: And then someone pays full price for your second hand copy of the game because EB does that.

Not blaming you at all but I don't like how EB is selling used games as new.

            • @azngamer: I buy new from them only if plastic sealed to avoid that

            • @azngamer: I'm no fan of EB games and their ridiculous prices but a claim like that should be backed by some proof

              • +3

@Sammy Boi: It's standard retail procedure. Any retail store that receives returned or refunded items resells that item as new if in good condition and without missing parts.

EB are no different. They don't "own" new games the same way they "own" their preowned games.

New games are sold to them via distributers whereas preowned stock is "purchased" from customers in the way of trade in value store credit. As a returned game under the 10 day policy results in giving the customer a full refund (e.g. $79.95), it would make no viable sense for them to sell that as a preowned title for, let's say, $64. That's an immediate $16 loss on an item that is effectively new for all intents and purposes, but is realistically preowned.

It's a weird grayish area due to the way the company operates and distinguishes between new and pre-owned stock only when it financially benefits the company to do so.

              • +1

@Sammy Boi: I don't have actual hard evidence, but I can confirm that it's happened to me when I bought a full priced "new" (was not marked as pre-owned) copy of Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate on the 3ds. I got home, loaded the game, and saw there was already a save file on it (To be clear, save files are stored on the game cartridge; the game time was a few hours, so I assumed someone bought it, played for a bit, didn't like it, and returned it soon after).

I did not return the game because I spent the whole day driving to 4 or 5 different ebgames stores for stock; but I am pretty salty about paying $60 for a pre-owned game sold as new. I typically ask for an unopened copy of the game if I buy from them nowadays.

Reason why I still go to them every now and then is because of price matching and the store is closer than others like jb hi-fi for me.

              • @Sammy Boi: It has happened to me a few times with 3DS games. For anyone that does not know, most 3DS games save files are stored in the cartridge itself. EB staff was supposed to clear it before reselling but they must have missed it. Some save files had 40+ hours on it.

A friend got smash ultimate from EB and couldn't redeem his free DLC and the gold coin redemption for switch (around 60c worth or something).

                As for non-anecdotal:

                https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/280270

      • you can buy games with the credit aswell right?

      • You can take cash with a 20% discount

        • -4

Why did you steal another (very well known and respected) member's user photo? Please change it, it's misleading.

          • +8

@miq: Because my name is Bryan Alves.

I asked being askhole and he said it was ok

So should i listen to the BA himself or some random's opinion like you?

      • @maxwellian, if you're based in Sydney i'd be tempted to buy your switch for $270 lol. You could then blow it on whatever you wanted.

    • Traded in a heap of old Xbox games because I went and did the $29 for Borderlands and got an extra 25% trade credit on top of my 10% (maxed out at $50) but ended up walking out with a switch and 2 games for $80. Some of the games traded more for what I paid for them. Can post a receipt if anyone is keen. Also have another 25% bonus trade in credit card I don't think I'll end up using. In Perth so PM me anyone wants it.

    • 1 Victorian store mentioned that the trade credit if put towards gears 5 console bundle Xbox x would further increase these figures. Ask when trading if you are considering this option.

Pretty good deals if you don't want to deal with (profanity) on Ebay / Gumtree

    • +11

The F-wits on Gumtree/Facebook/Ebay will pay cash. EB won't and they aren't any better..

      • +2

EB will give you cash in Queensland if you subtract 20% from your trade in value from memory.

      • +1

I've become a master at trolling fwits, it really is quite satisfying.

Just agree to their stupid low balling, agree to meet somewhere far for them and don't show up

  • +2

Do you need to trade in a controller too?

    • +4

Yes, the 'what can I trade' section on their website states you also need controller, power cable, and HDMI cable in addition to the console to trade it. edit: PS4 also requies the controller charging cable.

      • It also states the following:

If your console is not in working, complete, or resalable condition - we may still be able to trade it. Ask at your local EB Games store or contact our friendly customer service team on 13 39 30 for more information.

I have traded in a console without a controller and the trade value was reduced by $20.

        • +1

Correct, you can trade without it and get less usually. The terms and conditions of this deal though (sent out in the email to EB world members) state that 'Console must be working, complete, and in resalable condition.' Without a controller its not complete and you wouldnt get the above pricing.

If someone tries to trade without controller please update the thread with what price you get, if its just $20 less than this deal that would be sweet.

          • @StormOfRazors: Yep. Didn't have a few cases for 3ds games and lost like 1 or 2 dollars on then. Think smash bros traded at nearly 30 with the bonus

      • What about the dock?

  • +2

Wow that's decent for OG xbox.. How much you reckon they'd give for a 1TB fat Xbox One? Also is a controller required?

    • +1

Wondering the same. Have a 1tb that I'd be interested in trading.
Is this trading credit or is this actual the money value

      • +2

Same. I have an Elite I'd be willing to trade in (minus the Elite controller of course)

I could throw in a standard controller

  • +5

$384 for a PS4 Pro…. Anything coming out exclusive for PS4 soonish? It kinda just sits there right now…

On the other hand, what do I buy for $384 from Eb :/

    • Get psvr

    • +8

      a second hand PS4 LOL

    • Death Stranding but I'm hoping for bc on PS5.

      • Apparently coming to PC

    • where are you getting $384? says $320

      • EB World bonus trade credit.

        Level 2 - bonus 10%
        Level 3 - bonus 15%
        Level 4 - bonus 20%

      • They probably have a lvl 4 EB card, which means 20% extra trade credit. $320 x 1.2 = $384.

      • Level 4 EB World Card.

    • +1

Might be my inner fanboy speaking, but if the PS4 is collecting dust, maybe consider a Switch?

It's a much more casual system for short play sessions anywhere you want without feeling like you need to invest a solid few hours in front of a tv to get a decent experience.

Also there is a wealth of quality indie games that frequently get deep discounts on the eShop that might be a good change of pace from what I assume is mainly big budget, story-driven experiences you bought a PS4 Pro for initially?

      • I have a switch already, otherwise yes, that would be my choice :P

  • :P

  • +2

Damn EB buys switch at $270 that's crazy good. Oh well I have been looking for second hand under $200, no avail

    • +4

0 chance someone will sell you switch for under $200 unless it has issues.

They have super high resell value like apple products :p

  • +1

Hmm $230 for the basic ps4 isnt that bad either. Is that inclusive of level 4 bonus or no? Level 4 is 20% bonus credit, so in theory you would get $276 for a PS4 500GB? it does say + eb world bonus. thats better than anything I'd get for selling it.

This brings what you would get for a PS4 500GB to the same price Amazon was selling new ones for 3 months ago. Oh, I guess you do get an extra dollar from EB lol.

    • Climbs to $276 with lv 4. Insanely good value for the base console.

  • Wow $230 for a 500gb PS4 ! I sware i have seen new ones on sale for around that (maybe $250 or so but defantly under $300). What do they sell these used systems for ?? No way i would pay more than 50% of the best price for a new one given the risk it will die within a few months but i guess some people are carzy and buy them used for near new prices.

  • Wait, I'm confused. So I trade in my PS4 500GB and get a $230 EB Games credit?

    • Looks like it + your eb world bonus (10-20%), potentially bringing it higher?

  • So this is trading for store credit? Not cash?

Edit: the above poster just beat me to the question.

    • In my experience these kinds of things give you gift card credit only or you can put it towards preorders/anything in the store at the time.

    • some stores will let you get it in cash but it would be a decreased amount for sure. when the controller trade-in deal was going on, i got $40+$4(level 2) in credit but if i took cash, i would have gotten $36.

  • -1

is this trading towards strictly an xbox one or trade credit to spend on anything? very important information!

    • +1

Trade credit at EB, not limited to anything. They just want consoles to go with all their shitty controllers they bought up I guess.

    • why would it be for a xbox one? they are taking consoles for trade credit

      • coz on the flyer there's something written about trade for an xbox one

    • Credit to spend on anything in store.

  • I have a switch with joycons that can slide out if you apply too much force without the buttons on the back being pressed in.

Would they take this at EB?

    • You can sort this out with a $5 pack from eBay. Search for switch joycon latch replacement. I'm about to do mine soon.

      Search YouTube for videos :)

      • +1

I'm selling it, don't feel like waiting on a pack for ebay for something I'm getting rid of anyway.

I have it listed on Gumtree with the fault in the description already and stating its repairable but yeah just happy to sell it as is and was wondering if EB would take it.

        • Just don't tell em. Scam the scammers lol

          • +4

@montorola: Would rather not be dishonest

EB don't scam its just that people are uninformed and don't hunt for cheaper prices

    • +2

They’ll take it, they took my non working ps controllers

      • Thanks

  • Shame you only get instore credit, otherwise would be all over it

    • +1

Sell the store credit for a bit less

      • +3

Yeah then deal with lowballers on fb marketplace offering $75 for my $150 ebgames credit. No thanks, would much rather sell the console myself

  • +2

PS4 Slim 1TB is not on the list.

    • Interested to know the price for 1tb slim too

  • I lost my receipt long back, will they take the trade in :(

    • +5

you dont need a receipt for trading stuff in lol

      • Awesome , hope to trade the switch, gathering dust , almost new

    • +1

I'm pretty sure they only really care about your ID and the fact the console works for trade in?

    • +3

Hi there! To trade in you need to have the console complete (machine unit, a controller, power cord and HMDI) and depending on your state, relevant ID :)

      • This is fantastic, thank you for the response

      • I believe you can trade it in without certain items and they’ll just deduct money to accomodate. I’ve heard you don’t give up much in trade in value if you hang onto your controllers for example.

        • yeah doesn't make much sense to refuse a console just because it's missing a HDMI cable..

  • how long is avaliable for those credits?

    • Ends this Sunday :)

      • I mean after trade, when are those credit expired. thanks

        • +3

EB Games Gift Cards never expire!

          • @ThePriceMatchGuy: so we can get gift cards and not forced to use them straight away? sure I had experience when I trade in before they had me use it on something on the day.

            • @jackthefrost: Absolutely! Trade in your gear and save the credit for another day :) happens on the daily for me!

              • @ThePriceMatchGuy: Do you know how much subtraction it would be if we didn't trade in a PS4 controller? Cheers for posting here.

                • @Sullie: I haven't had a missing controller in a long time. But it's no more than $25 penalty.

              • +1

@ThePriceMatchGuy: I assume WA has different laws or something, as I tried to trade some games last week and asked for credit, was told "can only trade for another item, as staff don't have the appropriate trading license"

                • @karnage1020: Can confirm, they refused to put trade credit onto gift card for me too (WA).
One way around it is putting it toward a distant preorder, and then when it comes to buying something just cancel the preorder to buy it.
Bit of a pain especially if you wanna use it over multiple purchases though, and if you're buying from a different store they need to ring the original store (where you traded stuff in) to transfer the whole preorder/credit.
Okay it's definitely more hassles than a bit of a pain.

                • @karnage1020: Yes, WA law means you can't get cash from EB.

I never realised they could upgrade their trading license though. It's obvious now that you say it. They really need to do that! Lazy bums have no intention it seems (it's been this way for… A decade?)

                • @karnage1020: Yup, WA has always been weird for trades for some reason.. :-( sorry

                  • @ThePriceMatchGuy: Hey would I be able to get this as trade in credit, then use the gitfcard to buy something I've pricematched from elsewhere? Thanks!

                  • @ThePriceMatchGuy: Not always in WA, they used to give you credit on a gift card until about 2009/2010.
They stopped as apparently people were trading stolen goods and selling the cards (or so an employee told me)

              • @ThePriceMatchGuy: I've got Level 4 EB and a 25% extra trade credit scratch and win - would these stack with the Console Trade?

                • @Garbotoxin: In the t&c’s it’s state games and accessories only for the scratch card and only $50 max bonus.
