IMO these are really good beans… The go to for a first timer would be the ORTHODOX ESPRESSO BLEND.

Cheers team.

    Wow, expensive.

Free shipping over $75 for coffee, need to lower that bar sir.

Super pricey. If shipping were free it may be a decent deal. Perhaps I should get into roasting, if Pablo and Rusty can still make money selling 500 grams of beans delivered for $12 I wonder how much cheaper it would be to roast my own..

  • I get incredible beans from my local roaster, 1-2 days old max, for $12.50 / 250g. I'd say anything over $15 for 250g (including shipping) isn't really a deal.

EDIT: OK I just realised 2 of the 3 packs with 25% off = $75 with free shipping, so $12.50 per 250g. Not keen on buying 1.5kg of beans though.

  • These are the first Nespresso pods that actually taste nice in my opinion.
That said i'd really love to find a winning coffee combo using a reusable pod…. failing thus far

Yes i know its not as good as making coffee the proper way :)

You could simply buy St Ali 250gm pack, grind it yourself and stuff into the reusable pods and you'd get a better pod coffee than the St Ali pre made ones.

I use to do something similar with my Sealpods before I went off pods entirely.

Oh, and if you want it to taste better with your own ground pods, use two pods in your coffee and watch the extraction and potentially turn off a few seconds earlier so you aren't just extracting bitter water into your coffee.

Remember that café coffee shots are up around the 22gm mark of ground coffee, two pods is only going to get you to ~14gm, so you'll never get that café taste, but it'll taste better with two pods (I've tried three pods, it just doesn't work.)

BTW this is for making lattes with your nespresso machine.

      • I should explain my situation more clearly.
My reusable pod is very hit and miss - i got a 'i Cafilas Stainless Steel Refillable Coffee Capsule'.
The amount of water vs the strength of the coffee is very hit and miss.
I was going to ask about your sealpods - but you've gone off them!

Also - thanks for the info regarding about of gm for Cafe vs home. Good to know

        • The Sealpods are great. If you want to buy some, i'm selling!

I just decided I wanted to move on from the nespresso machine onto better coffee making equipment. If I was still using it, I would still use my sealpods.

          • @serpserpserp: Just had a look at them
            $200+ for sealpods!? Wow :S

            • @6000SUX: I bought 2 x 1 pack of sealpods for $20 each on sale (so $40 total). Only need two to make a coffee for yourself.

The stickers are probably the big cost over the long term (I bought a massive batch of them on sale and have a ton left).

    • I don't understand reusable pods… they lose all the convenience and don't taste as good.

I may be wrong as I've never used them, but seems like it would be significantly more effort to clean and fill a pod than just using an espresso machine.

        1 - Better for environment
2 - Get the coffee YOU want!

        But not as convenient? Totally.

they lose all the convenience and don't taste as good.

The first bit, kinda. Don't taste as good? Completely wrong. Tastes so much better than nespresso if you use the coffee beans you love.

There is a bit of effort involved, but it is less effort than using another coffee device to make it (although I'd say on par with the nanopresso I currently use).

  • FYI - For people that want the St Ali beans cheaper than above. Most coffee places that use St Ali generally sell the beans (they do in my area) and they are usually good at not keeping them on the shelf for over a 2 or 3 weeks. The orthodox blend 250g costs $14 at my local.
